Clarification: Artying UCB Allowed?
Today on TS I heard reports that one commander was launching artillery strikes on his opponent's UCB. A squad-member commented to me on how that was sadly allowed, but I have always believed that it was illegal.
I have reread the rules, and they don't seem to specifically address this point. Could an admin possibly clarify this?
(NB. I'd prefer if this didn't turn into a huge debate about the moral issues at stake. Just one or two posts would suffice)

Well spotted but I have always seen action taken when someone artied a UCB. How many times has someone artillaried the carrier on Gulf Of Oman and then a string of WARNING messages about Not artillaring a UCB come up.
It needs addressing quickly to make sure there is no confusion but at the minute you could term it under:
as that is the only reason to arty a UCB hence against the rules.intent on killing a disoriented spawning player.
This is another case of playing the rules, if it isn't stated then its exploited, just reading through the rules makes it clear the only reason to ATTACK a UCB is to destroy assets, and since artillary doesn't destroy assets it is obviously not allowed.
Hopefully the admins will clarify and make the rule clear.

Dropping artillery into a UCB is not covered under the UCB rules.

Isn't atrying a UCB the same as attacking it? The rules should be clarified to state that it is not allowed.

Artillery strikes are not the same as a normal attack. This is because there is no way that you can tell from an artillery strike if you are going to catch a player who is that second spawning in (like you can if you were camping it). Artillery strikes can destroy assets, but like a vehicle or bridge take a pretty direct hit to do the damage required to take it out.
It's usually a very poor place to direct an arty strike in my opinion, but it is not against the rules.

The UCB is not meant to be a safe haven for players to spawn. There is a recharge time for the artillery so the CO cannot be constantly dropping arty. The CO also cannot "focus" in on newly spawned players to take advantage of their lack of orientation.

Just give me 1 good reason why dropping arty on a UCB is a good thing?
We might as well allow attacking UCB's since thats what artying them is, lets let the bombers bomb them as well.
There is no difference between bombing UCB's and arting them so how can different rules be applied?
If its there only flag you can garentee there will be newly spawning players/squads, I guess they are just collateral damage. Originally Posted by asch

The variable time the arty takes to drop also makes it impossible for the enemy CO to inpoint a newely spawned squad.

And suddenly Karkand and Daqing have completely new strategies... just arty the hell out of the USMC UCB with the excuse that you didn't know that people there had just spawned...
This seems to be a loophole in the rules to me and I'm hoping it can be closed.|TG-12th| fallen

That's up to the admins to decide if we need an ammendment to the rules or not. Now we let them debate.
