Never fat-finger the parachute button again!

Thanks to BigGaayAl for this tip (buried in another thread in the Tactics forum)

the lines in controls.con look like this for me, using numpad 0 for jump&chute:

    jump: ControlMap.addKeyToTriggerMapping c_PIAction IDFKeyboard IDKey_Numpad0 10000 0
    chute: ControlMap.addKeyToTriggerMapping c_PIWeaponSelect9 IDFKeyboard IDKey_Numpad0 10000 0

The main advantage to this is that when you jump off a roof, you can just keep spamming the jump button, thus minimizing the time needed to open the parachute.

Genius! I've been having issues with that for friggin ages. ^^
BTW, i thought that you couldnt use the same key for two actions in controls?

You can't if you go through the UI to do it, but you can if you go in and change it manually.

Nice. I missed that nugget of wisdom. Fat fingering the 9 key with lots o' lag is an all too common occurrence for me lately. Good re-post.

That's nice but not I'm not sure if I want to change it since I know I'll be spamming 9 and crashing to the ground a few times before I remember I changed it ><

I'm going to bind every key to the parachute, just because I can.

I *HATE* the default key settings, and remapped everything day one (which was frustrating BTW, since some keys that aren't really "mapped" in the UI can't be rebound until you go into the file and fix it).

Anyway, I use E-S-D-F as my primary move keys. It gives me an extra line of keys on the left to use for all kinds of things. Q is my chute, so it's extremely convenient to spam until the dang thing opens. In fact, back in '42 I even had time to chute back down if a tank shell blew me in the air but didn't put me out of my misery. Aah, the physics of yesteryear...

I bound x as my parachute. I dont think it was used for anything.

I also made Alt my push to talk button, a lot easier to reach than b

So there's no reason one should worry about having their CDhash banned by Punkbuster for altering their content is there?

Reason I ask is I play in a league and if I were to mod my parachute key and PB banned me I would be banned from the league.........atleast under that cdkey

your ideas intrigue me and i wish to subscribe to your newsletter.

seriously. i seem to have 'run out' of keys that conveniant to my wasd hand- i mostly just have q, e, r, f, shift, caps, and space (the bottom row is hard to hit comfortably).

i don't think i'd be able to get used to esdf, though- i've been using wasd since quake1.
