Response from EA/DICE about SL spawn changes in 1.3
Just found this in Planet-Battlefield forums.
The spawn update is here to stay..
Awesome cant wait for this patch to see the effect of this.
[PATCH 1.3 UPDATE]
We at DICE and EA are aware of the concern surrounding the coming change to squad selection. We would like to take a moment to ease the feelings of tension related to this change. Our goal is to refocus game play on team work, squad coordination and to also remove the spawning exploit used by some.
In BF2 we introduced tools that would allow players to support one another as they battle for control points. To further enhance this aspect of game play squads were introduced to give players even more tools to coordinate their efforts and support each other. Allowing squad mates to spawn on the squad leader was intended to provide an easy way for squads to stay together during chaotic battles.
Unfortunately squad leaders have been used by some to launch team wide attacks on remote parts of maps with little thought to actual team unity beyond these maneuvers. We believe this change will refocus the game play on team work and add more value to the roles of Squad Lead and Commander.

This should take away all the arguements from people who say the above isn't the way the game was "intended" to be played. It sounds like DICE did have a clear vision of what type of game they wanted BF2 to be, and I'm glad they're seeing it through.

On the plus side, a lot of those people are going to just quit playing BF2. Or at least until the next patch when they claim they're going to quit all over again.

what next players will quit playing cause they have to actually join the squads to play. Im really glad EA is not caveing in on this like everything else. Funny though, we will be the only community that wont loose members because of it.
Now do you think we will see an influx of non-patched servers, or do the ranked servers autopatch? We could see a bunch of non ranked server pop up if thats the case.
Ah good to be at TGthat sounds like a good idea trooper.

I'm pretty darn sure ranked servers must update to the latest patch. There's only a small handful of unranked servers out there right now, and I doubt that will change. All the people who pout about the squad-jumping change are the same people who are the biggest stat whores.

No kidding Mantis. This'll be interesting to see. I for one like the idea and believe this revision will ultimately make the game squad/team oriented.

As usual, I have mixed feelings for EA/DICE.
This is a good move but what about the biggest obstacles they put in front of teamwork: "Rank and Medal" system and "weapon unlocks".
Were they thinking about "teamwork" with these?
