Hi All-

I attempted to have this posted last week on the home page but appears that never happened so I wanted to at least give everyone (all you BF junkies and others) an impression of the fun time I had attending E3. By now I'm sure everyone has read and seen all the reports from E3 so this not may as not as fresh as it was a week ago but hopefully I can still add a bit of commentary. I'll try and post a day two and three report this weekend.



E3 Report!!!!!!!!!!! Day One!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yes, I played BF 2142 (for acouple hours!) and you will NOT be disappointed!!!!!!!

Make sure you: cut back on a daily meal, get an extra job, win the lottery or do whatever it is you do to save some extra cash because there are alot of cool games headed our way!

Wednesday May 10th-

Hi fellow TGer’s, it’s TheFatKidDeath reporting from E3 - The Electronic Entertainment Expo - held at the Los Angeles Convention Center located right in the heart of beautiful downtown Los Angeles and a short walk from the deliciously famous Pantry restaurant and The Staples Center, home of the world champion Los Angeles Lakers. For those who are not familiar with E3, think three days of sensory overload, mixed in with massive crowds, head turning booth girls and a lot of cool video games and you have an idea of what E3 is all about. I don’t work in a profession which is anyway related to the video game/computer industry so I was fortunate enough to get a pass from a co-worker in my companies marketing department (it’s good to know people who know people). I attended E3 in 2003 and '04 (I could not get a pass for '05) so it's a good feeling to be back.

I live in Santa Monica which is about 25 minutes from downtown LA (or an hour with traffic) so I gave myself plenty of time and arrived right around the opening of the Expo. Upon grabbing my free Mtn Dew (as much as one could take) I headed into the South Hall (there are three Halls total, it's a huge show) right into the EA booth and what's the first thing I see????????

BF2142-

Yes, it delivers, big time. Lots of fun. I kept thinking to myself that this a worthy successor in the Battlefield series. I noticed immediately that it feels like BF2, but, set in the future! They had one map running, shown in the trailer, with the Titan mode going. It's going to add a whole new dimension to the game play.

Some noteable highlights (among many)

-The Mech walkers are impressive! I think the concern of the Mech unbalancing the game is just not valid. I almost C7'ed one on foot (not C4 as one the DICE guys told me, this is the future he said C4 is so 21st Century) a Mech by using building and tree cover. I also saw a couple Mech's EMP'ed which disables the vechicles.

-Pods. You can use the pods to shoot off of the Titan down onto the ground below or use them to get up to the Titan down below from an APC. The Pod can sort of be guided, much like the parachute and when it lands it breaks open and let's you out. It's cool to see all these pods to shoot in the air to attack a Titan or falling back down.

-The Titan has guns underneath so you can take out enemies.

-Each class is very customizable and from what I got from the guys at EA (and DICE, who were on hand and liked to talk BF) alot can be done with each class. I believe there are only four classes in the game, final number has yet to be determined, but you can do quite a bit with the classes. On the class page, you can add or change weapons to your kit.
So each class has alot of variety.

-The sentry drone has got your back! It's like a dog that follows you around, accept this dog can shoot. During one game I threw one down ( it follows you where ever you go, get in a vehicle and it follows) and after I was killed, it killed the guy who killed me!

-The BF 2142 heli/jets really combined both the BF2 jet and helicopter into one vehicle. It seemed to have the speed of a jet but was also able to hover. That was the only flying vehicle in the game besides the Titan.

-The APC's have top mounted guns for both the driver and passengers, they are not as confined as the APC's in BF2. You can get a better view.

-The tanks don't have a turret - it's like a hover craft almost. You would think that would be a bad thing but the DICE guy explained that you can strafe in the BF 2142 tank which made for some exciting new tactics.

-Man, so much more I've missed that I will include on tommorow's report. It's been a long day of over stimulation, caffeine and video games that it's worn me down.

BF 2142 is looking good and I'm looking forward to playing it on a TG server.

On Day 2 of the show, Friday, I'll have more BF 2142 to report plus some Crysis - Whoa! that game looks good! plus Quake Wars, which I played (alot of fun) Dark Messiah of Might and Magic - a cool (think Half Half 2 style of play - same engine) RPG which includes what is probably a first: multi-player first person fantasy - think CounterStrike, but with magic spells instead of guns and arrows instead of bullets.

Make sure you download the Titan Quest demo which is out now. That's a cool game and the guys told me that the finished game will have some multi-player quests. Would like to see some TG players get together for Titan Quest.
