What would make BF2 more interesting?
Many players are tired of the same old stock maps, especially since we only really play a subset of them. The addition of custom maps & boosters has had issues with filling up the server.
So what I want to do is brainstorm on things that we can do to bring the excitement back to the game. This is just brainstorming so there is no right or wrong suggestion. Once we have brainstormed for a little bit, then we can discuss the merits of each one.
1) Creata a "mod" night
With all of the new mods coming out, it would be great to host one mod for one night each week.
2) Create a "theme" night
Take one night a week and create a theme that dictates the maps we play. (e.g. Urban night, USMC vs. MEC night, USMC vs. China night, etc.)
3) Bring back a password night.
I believe part of the reason some players (new and old) don't return is at times the server can feel pretty "pubby". Let's bring back quality play.
4) Create a "Movie Night"
This is something I will be doing with the tac mod on Thursday nights. I'll post more on this later in another thread.
5) Create a "Campaign" night
The concept of this night would be to play a campaign. We'll have to determine what the campaign would be... but if Wed night is campaign night, then every Wednesday we pick up where we left off from the week before.
OK... so there's a start. Let's bring more ideas to the table. Let's just bring ideas right now... keep the discussions on the ideas to a minimum unless you're asking for clarification or to build upon an idea.

i know this is probably going to be shot down, but use the ABR (alternate battlefield ranking) system. Im not going to get into it cuz everyone knows the pros and cons. Just a suggestion.
Aside from that, how bout no air tuesdays? or something along those lines. No jets or attack choppers. We could possible take out arty too, but then not as many CO's might step up.

Re: What would make BF2 more interesting?
Seems that scrims brings out the masses so how about different types of scrims. One idea I have been tossing around is a completely blind draw type scrim. Have a sign up for participants and then do a blind draw for teams and squads. If you get drawn for CO and have never COd before well better start to practice or if you are drawn to a jet squad and you don't fly well better grow wings fast.
Anyway I think this would be a good community building type of game and gives everyone the opportunity to play with people they don't normally have the chance to play with. This is very vague description but I think you get the idea. No inhouse affiliations, just TG on TG.

Re: What would make BF2 more interesting?
I think increasing competition between in-house squads might be cool, like an in-house squad tourney. It'd be six v. six or maybe ten v. ten on smaller maps, but it'd be pretty exciting I think. For those who aren't in an in-house, there could be a squad made up of the unafilliated people, and a squad for non-supporting members too.

I agree with Drizzid, if we had a scrim each week/fortnight then that brings out the numbers for a full server of TG goodness.

Re: What would make BF2 more interesting?
Lets have 16 player map night, with Arty and Air taken out.
This would make things go well with the EU booster backs cause those maps are large for 16 players.
I think even if we do get 32vs. 32 it would do well here at TG.
I would like to work on coordinating 3 plus squads in attack and defense munovers.
The action would be fast past for all, and with us it would be handled well.
Could u imagine Jimmytwohands cordinating a multi squad defense, tuff level.
C.O. would be needed to coordinate to make things happen.
We could put Operatoin Clean Sweep into action again.
If need be we can put in a password to filter out the pubbies.(PO3) Marcinko_R. (BF2 PR .509) Squad Member

Re: What would make BF2 more interesting?
To reiterate what others have already suggested. The best rounds of bf2 are those with a full server and good Cos to coordinate. It also helps if everybody is motivated to play their best. And, since we don't have a full server on regular nights anymore, scrims seem to bring everybody out for a night of good bf2. I don't think people necessarily want fresh new things. Most of us, I take it, would just like the feel of server 1 during primetime, six months ago, on a good night. Nobody cared that we had two back to back rounds of Mashtuur (32 then 64!) a few weeks ago, because both were just really fun. We basically had a full 32 man team signed up a few hours after the announcement of the gc vs tg scrim. It looks to me like people really look forward to that sort of thing, even if they're on old vanilla maps.
Scrims also allow people to make plans to set aside a few hours one night and have a good time. I'd take 3 rounds of a good scrim over a week of so-so, half filled, server 1 play any time. I'm not suggesting a scrim every week. That would wear people out and have the unintended consequence of lower than normal population levels on server 1. But, perhaps twice a month would be nice. TG vs TG scrims are nice since it allows for a full server of TG goodness. They don't even have to be 32 on 32.
Password nights might bring out more people to play too, especially if they know there will be quality game time. How about a night where we play all the maps that don't get played often here.
Oops this was more discussion and less brainstorming.Last edited by sordavie; 07-23-2006 at 04:41 PM.

Re: What would make BF2 more interesting?
Lots of good ideas in this thread. I like the scrims although they are probably too much work to set up on a weekly basis.
I would like it if we could somehow set aside some time for people who aren't normally COs or SLs to try out those positions. I'm reluctant to do either because I don't want to get a bunch of people killed.
The time for calm and rational discussion has passed. Now is the time for senseless bickering.

Re: What would make BF2 more interesting?
One question I think needs to be clairified really is what we're talking about when we're trying to 'make BF2 more interesting'. Is it really about giving current and older TG players somethgn new to do or is it trying to find a way to bring in and keep a hold of new players so the servers are more populated more often.
I think it is imporntat to decide which direction you are trying to go because making TG more interesting to people who already 'get' TG and making TG more attractive for new players are likely to be at odds with one another. Making TG more accessible to new people means we need to keep things relatively simple and open so that new folks can easily be integrated. However, if the point is to re-invigorate the current TG population having slightly more complicated and 'off the beaten path' solutions doesn't present as big a barrier to entry.
Remember, as logical as our rules are it is often hard for new people to figure out how things work within the TG philosophy. Heck, often times even the 'old timers' have a hard time figuring things out (how many of the 'heated' discussions here involved at least one long time SM who needed to be reminded to read the TG rules)Kornkob
I want to move to Theory. Everything works in Theory.

Re: What would make BF2 more interesting?
The scrims shouldn't be more than once a month. I am sure there are a few different concepts that can be implemented. Again this thread are ofr different ideas to help make BF2 more fun and interesting. But if the scrim idea is to happen there will need to be more people that would be willing to help coordinate and organize the scrims other than a very select few. Maybe have some volunteers and rotate them so not burn these people out.I'm not suggesting a scrim every week. That would wear people out and have the unintended consequence of lower than normal population levels on server 1.

this would be fun...except on zatar, the blackhawk c4ing ruins it. A map where everyone is in a tank or apc would be fun

Re: What would make BF2 more interesting?
If the admins put on the vanilla only night every week, it might be cool to couple that with a PW. When the password nights were on, more people actually joined because they knew that anyone playing has looked at the forums, knew all the rules, and knew what TG was all about. You dont neccesarily get that on an average night, so the hardcore guys were more reluctant to join. Who knows, you might see a lot of people we knew 6 months ago come back out of the woodwork. Even if we can get up to 50 people with the PW/vanilla id be happy, because at that point a CO is actually worth it.
