Comments on the Community
Posting in one of the other threads got me thinking, so...
I just wanted to say that I think, as a whole, the biggest problem in the TG BF2 community currently is a degrading attitude toward promoting a fun environment. This problem has manifested itself in many ways, including, but not limited to, a number of debates regarding vanilla vs. TacMod, Booster Packs, the Gentleman's Agreement, and ad Hoc rules. We've all become so familiar with the game that each of us has found what aspects appeal to us and which ones don't. As such, most of us have formed a well-defined idea of an enjoyable round of BF2 based on these preferences and the extended period of time we've spent playing together. Because we know what we like, we stick to that and pursue that to our own end, largely without regard to how we are affecting the game for those outside of our squad.
Previously, when everyone was still getting acquainted with the game, we were willing to explore possibilities and different styles of gameplay, strategy, etc. Many new people were joining, so we also got to meet a lot of new people to play with. However, now that BF2 has been out for a year and is soon to be succeeded by 2142, we've run out of possibilities to explore. We know the game so well that each time we play, we go for what will be fun for us based on our experience on TG.
This includes playing in exclusive groups, requesting the same maps over and over again, and playing out strategies that may not be conducive to an enjoyable experience for all. For example, I find it rather silly to have LEARN TG squads filled with in-house squad members. Additionally, seeing people start new squads rather than joining a squad lead by a new face is equally distressing. Now, I realize we've gotten to know who we like to play with by now, but it's still nice to get to know new people. Heck, I didn't even know I could be a quasi-effective SL till recently, and I would like to see more people afforded the chance to try things like that. But, that won't happen if people keep switching squads because their SL hasn't become effective yet.
Additionally, a lot of the tactics used on Server #1 recently haven't exactly been the most fun for the opposing team. I know this argument is a bit of a hard one to make, but I, for one, am against full capping a map. I know winning can be fun, but full capping tends to make it only fun for one team while 31 other people are sitting there waiting for your team to finish toying with the last guy alive. Also, setting up a defensive wall around the other team's only base may be tactical, but playing on the boxed in team is like having your dignity stomped on one spawn at a time as you just find your self getting killed anytime you want to move outside of the flag cap radius.
So I guess I'm down to conclusion time. I would like to implore the community to take more initiative in supporting and PROMOTING a fun environment for us to play in. Give new people chances and make the game more interesting for yourself and your squadmates by playing differently (i.e. new kits, squad lead, command, fly an aircraft). If you see a void in the command structure, fill it (we need more commanders!) Stop your team from destroying the other team if YOU would be angry if you were on the other team. SHOW RESTRAINT! Pat on the back to you if you can singlehandedly eat half the other team's tickets in the bomber, but I seriously doubt you'll gain any of my respect if you actually do so. We keep complaining about balance issues, but we refusse to police ourselves effectively.
Admins can only do so much to enforce the TG rules. We, as a community, can promote the TG attitude as much as we want to ourselves, but until we take the responsibility upon ourselves to keep the server fun for our own members, we cannot expect to grow our server by attracting "like minded individuals."

Same as Calvin, very well said. I think we all need to be a bit more adventurous and dynamic. Start trying new tactics, new playing styles, etc.

I agree completely. The best games for me are never the ones that are a complet blow-out. They are the ones where we win (or sometimes lose) by a couple of tickets.

Am I the only one feeling like everyone in this community could use a group hug? lol. I'd have given you my last beer if I still had it as well as my shoulder to cry on. Ah who I'm kidding, I wouldn't have given you my last beer or let you cry on my shoulder.
Nice post penguineer.

Either that, or a "time out".

I actually don't mind being capped out. It's part of the game, and a lot of maps are designed around the prospect of capping out the other team.

I agree too but i would be happy if we just had more players. Did i understand right is BF 2142 going to replace BF2 Modern Combat. One of the reasons i play BF2 is it is realistic not all that futuristic science fiction crap. Thats my preference of course but would like to know what was meant by the statement that BF2 would be succeeded by 2142.
