Mines - Problem and perhaps, a solution

    Hi All-

In brief, it seems when ever I play Engineer, SF or Sniper and lay a mine, C4 or claymore a member of my team (and perhaps a squad member) will activate the munition. Of course this was not the intention of the said player but was more likely from confusion of the "mine" icon, which is the red skull and cross bones.

    Here is perhaps a solution:

Keep the red skull icon but change the color of the icon to represent the three different mines:

    1)Red - indicates land mine

    2)White - indicates C4

    3)Blue - indicates claymore

For example, if I'm driving a tank and see the a White skull and cross bone icon, I know it's safe to roll over or if I'm running to a flag for a cap and see the Blue, I know to keep my distance. Also, it seems typing out on screen warning everyone to keep away from the claymore on a particular flag never gets read or perhaps missed and if everyone knew that the blue skull means claymore than it would be an easier indicator. I always have to get really close to a mine, C4 or claymore (on that one I'm usually dead) before I can tell what it is.

I'm not sure if this would completely solve the "Team Kill" problem but it might help.

    Any suggestions on mine recognition?

Maybe this could be changed by the Admin's or suggested in a EA future patch?

That is a great suggestion kid. I always get confused by what is there and seldom think twice about checking and just avoid them entirely when I'm in a vehicle heading out at full speed. Knowing what is actually on the ground would be helpful.

Yeah that would be great. Or heck even if the icon just doesn't dissapear like it seems to now. I racked up quite a few TKs/punishes last night playing engineer.

    New people = mine/claymore TKs.

On vanilla servers, the mines and claymores dont go off on friendlies.

They wont read it, they never do.
The problem is that newbies to the server think that mine FF is off and happily run over them, only to find out that they do teamkill...
At times this makes laying a mine a no-go, because sometimes out of the 6 guys in your squad, 1 is a newbie and keeps setting them off.

This is true somewhat, then you get punished for them being idiots.

It be alright if the auto kick for minus score caused by mines was turned off, then its a fair case of learning to play TG style, right now, everytime I lay a mine I run the risk of having a full APC running over it and getting auto-kicked and thrown out of my squad/team.

I don't see this happen too much anymore at least on our server. The occassional claymore tk, sure, but as far as mines, not so much. Well I should say whenever I'm engineer.

I noticed the "ALT" button makes the skulls appear/disappear. So any time someone alt+TABs to minimize out of the game the friendly claymores/C4/AT mines lose their warning icon...

Just hit "ALT" again and the skulls reappear.

    EDIT: I was a ding-dong...

"Alt" is the default button, not sure if it can be changed.

But of course, that doesn't change the fact that sometimes they just don't show. I've been seeing that much more than I used to. I throw down 4 mines and only 3 of them have the symbol over them.

Just goto your controls, and highlight the button that enables/disables the minimap, click it and hit esc to clear the key, as far as mines/claymore icons just disspearing with the 3d icons turned on. Yeah I've seen it a ton and its annoying.
