    I love transport choppers

I just sort of fly around ferrying my squad members to a flag I want to assault and have them all jump out on 3. Then hide behind a mountain, wait for the dead to all respawn back in, then fly up, drop everyone off while flying around and giving them bird's eye intel! It is great fun, I am addicted to the transport helo.

Also, I really like attacking a flag in this fashion when I am not leading the squad. It is fun to do these halo jumps and throw grenades at people while I circle around the flag like some sort of grenade toting-parachute equipped vulture.

Heh... while doing this on Dalian, I accidentally jumped out when you said something like, "Ok, let's hit that flag". Then as I floated to the ground I heard you say "On 3! 1... 2... 3...". The good side was that I drew the attention of all of the defenders. The bad side was that they just killed me and then everyone else.

Yea, sometimes this tactic don't work so gud. Most people don't expect 5 people to just fall out of the sky onto their heads. But if you loose that element of surprise, or as I like to call it, "get Ickyed", then it can turn into a turkey shoot!

Was feeling pretty good on Dalian as SL. We moved in with stealth from the landbridge to the West last night, eliminated the enemy squad and set up on defense...seconds later we were overrun from an airborne attack from 1 or 2 blackhawks...must've been you...kudos...

I saw you do this on Mashturr last night. I figured you were squad leader because you guys kept jumping out of the bird on top of the roof at hotel.

Yeah, it was pretty annoying. My squad was very slow to follow my orders to get in to the 50 cals - though I had a couple of new faces. But if you flew high enough we couldn't do anything about it. Your squad would just keep spawning and eventually you got the flag. I dunno about that kind of tactic on a map with no jets or attack helos. There's just no way to take out the spawn point if they're good about it.

I'm not a fan of it when there's no defense, but it usually isn't too effective unless the guys on the ground are shorthanded.

You couldn't do anything about it because my squad was listening to me and we were extremely coordinated and effective. If not executed properly, OR if you organized your men into AT's and 50 cals appropriately, it's quite easy to take out the chopper.

I don't mean to come off defensive, Sordavie. And it's nothing against you at all. If I were you I probably would have gotten frustrated as well. I'm making this point because I seem to get this alot with TG and it is part of the reason I stopped playing for the last 4 months. I'm not sure what to do. It's almost like someone needs to follow me around with a rule book and outlaw every tactic that I employ, as at least one person on these boards will call it 'cheap', whether in game or on the forums.

I made this point in a reply to another thread as well. I understand the spirit of TG and thought that I was being 'smart' and using the tools at my disposal effectively. Doing this while remaining well within the established rules of the server. My squad was doing very well and as you said, we eventually got the flag this way.

I understand TG doesn't want to make any more rules. Also that the ones in place are there to guide and 'common sense' should be used in all other situations. However, I would like others, maybe admins to check in to this thread and tell me if I am doing something wrong by employing the ninja drop tactic on maps with no air support. On that same vein, please post any other tactics or actions that I do while in server that you disapprove of, so I can stop pissing everyone off with my crazy antics.

BF2 is simulating a modern day war between organized armies. While we might see a squad of paratroopers take from the skies in an assault on a capture point, having a squad leader hang out in the chopper in a position that cannot be taken down, just or provide the mobile spawn point for continuous drops... is probably stretching it. The same could probably be said for nade spamming out of the blackhawk... or nade spamming in general.

We need to keep ourselves in check with many actions that are possible within the game but don't quite fit within the realm of simulating the modern day war between organized armies.

I kind of agree with Bhack on this one and I think this sort of stuff has effected the server recently. It seems that everything has to have an answer or everything has to be an exact 50-50 split for it to be in the spirit of TG. But recently there is a dispute for any tactic that is somewhat fresh or new. It's a game guys and we all do what we can to uphold the TG primer. BF2 has it's limits and TG has pushed those limits even further but calling a tactic cheap just because it was successfull is kinda getting old isn't it? Thinking outside of the box should be encouraged and not discouraged.

I personally think it is a good tactic, SL is staying out of harms way to keep the mobile spawn point active, nothing different from a SL hiding somewhere so his squad can spawn on him. As Bhack stated AT's could have probably destroyed or severly wounded the chopper which would have at least made the chopper leave the area to repair.

Yeah I really didn't mind the tactic either. It's not like it's something new or something that we haven't seen before. What should have happened is one lone guy hike it up to the south gas station and C4 the helipad when he comes back to repair.

    Re: I love transport choppers

Well the AT theory is not going to work. The chopper is too high up to hit and, when the infantry drop down, if half you're squad is AT then defense against the assaulting infantry is going to be ineffective.

It's also not like a SL hiding out. A SL hiding out can be found and shot. Not so with a high hovering chopper on a map with no air support.

I'm not saying we should outlaw this. I'm saying it's annoying and cheap. That's just my opinion. If, however, we think any tactic is good so long as it's effective, then we should also think that jet SL insertions are good. Those are quite effective if done properly. Squad leader switching could also have been very effective before the 1.3 patch. Heck, stealing vehicles from UCBs is very effective - especially jets or choppers. You take away the opponent's vehicles. So, obviously, to say that a tactic is effective doesn't preclude it from being cheap.

This also isn't a new tactic. It has been done right from the beginning. So, I'm not sure what kind of outside of the box or new thinking this is. The thought is that, hey I can keep a spawn point very close to the opponent's flag without any risk of being taken out, if I'm careful. This allows me to regroup very quickly and attack again before the opponent can reset their defense. Since I'm above them, I can drop my guys in a bunch of locations very easily, thus that will help confuse the defenders as to which direction to face. Yes, it's effective. I say it's also cheap. You may disagree. That's fine. But to disagree merely because you these are the tools the game has given to you at your disposal can't be enough. The game also allows bunnyhopping, prone spamming, jet insertions, spawn camping, suicide tactics, UCB vehicle stealing and such. But, I take it even you agree those sorts of tactics are cheap - and yet, they are at your disposal in game.

I'm not saying you need to justify your actions or even change them. I'm not even saying that this is exactly like those other already outlawed tactics. I'm just letting you know it can be very frustrating for some people on the server. I find it cheap in certain situations or at least unrealistic. But, maybe I'm wrong and it's not.

If countered properly, chopper paradrops are just a gigantic waste of tickets. See our scrim v. global conflict. All it takes is people spotting the paratroopers and a 50cal or two opening fire, and bam, five tickets lost for the other team, and more if they keep trying.
