    Any good snipers about?

    Hey guys.

I've been playing Sniper lately on BF2, and I love it. Sneaking around, staying undetected and picking off people before they even know they are being watched is great.

But I suck at it and I would love some tips and maybe even some snipers to play with who can give me some tips first hand and actually show me? So if anyone would like to show me the sniping ropes they can leave their Xfire or MSN in here and I'll be sure to add them.

Which is the best Sniper rifle by the way?

M24 was the best until it got nerfed. Me and Matoe could easily keep a squad down and under control until support could get there. I havent played since october, but when POE2 comes out you can expect me back at it. Im not sure how much as changed in the kit but i usta just wait that extra split second til i could see the name pop up. Then shoot, but dont let off the trigger soi you can see if you hit him.

Those tips always worked and pissed many people off,
that sounds like a good idea trooper.

If you are fired upon, move.
If you see a UAV in a red name about you, move.
If you shot a guy while he was facing you, move.
Also move after shooting several people at the same location, players tend to want to hunt for snipers at that point.

Know where to lay claymores and where not too.
Claymores will explode in the direction you are facing when you place them, they kill teammates on TG. Use them well and you can keep an entrance completely blocked from the enemy.

Know who to target, medics and supports (and ofcourse snipers) should be your main targets, but if another friendly squad with armor is rolling in, then aim for the AT's.

Use cover well, most of the maps have excellent places where you either blend in with your ghillie suit or only the end of your rifle is coming out.

If you hear a single shot richochet near you, an enemy sniper has found you, this means he spotted you to his teammates and that you are lit up like a chrismas tree, move.

Don't stick to the same place all the time unless you have never been fired upon there (still move when an enemy UAV is above you).

With the M24, often the time between the first shot and last shot can mean the difference between getting a kill and getting killed. Use a pistol to get that last shot if you are within range for this.

The M24 thing only works on non-body armor classes. The non-body armor classes: A sniper is obvious with his gillie suit, a medic has shock paddles on his sides, an engineer has a mine on his back and a spec ops has remote detonaters on his sides.
If you see this while getting a hit with the M24, switch to the pistol if you are within range for this.

Target squad leaders and spot them whenever you can if you manage to pick them out. Hints to this are who their medics keep reviving and where they spawn. (if not on a flag, and depending on who is dead and who isn't)

Thats about it for now I think.

    Re: Any good snipers about?

I'm by no means an uber sniper, but generally here's my MO:

    1) don't hide in the usual spots, it's where the snipers from the other team look first.

    2) don't hide where you're silhouetted against the sky - make sure there's something dark (slope of a hill, wall of a building, tree, etc.) behind you.

    3) it's hard to hit targets moving perpendicular to you, so learn where people slow, stop, and run directly at/away from you.... there's invisible "paths" that people tend to follow on all the maps... learn them. people will often peek around corners, out of doorways, etc. to see if it's "safe". aim there... for example, don't aim at the guy running for the doorway, instead, aim at the doorway and pull the trigger when your target get's there.

    4) if someone shoots at you, it's time to move to a new spot - they know you're there and have likely spotted you for all to see.... even if you kill them before they kill you, they'll be after you.

    5) FF is ON on TG servers, so be thoughtful about where you put claymores - don't trap your team in/out.

    6) If there's already 10 snipers on your team, pick a different kit

    Probably the best tip.

And always take the chance to get into a sniper dual, cuase if you got his attention he wont be able to target and kill your mates. remember you more then likely wont have the best score on the map but will really be appreciated by your squad mates.

As Trooper pointed out, it's a soon-to-be-released mod for BF2. In addition to the "normal" sniper rifles in the mod, you'll have access to these fancy toys (as quoted from PoE:2 News #71):

A Sniper’s role in a game is meant to be a pest and to break the morale of their opposing team. Both teams will have anti-material sniper pick-up kits located on the maps. The Germans will have the 12.7mm G-82 and the Ukrainian side will have the 20mm NTW-20 rifle. Having these rifles out on the battlefield should make gamers think about using cover and concealment so that these pesky players don’t see them.

Great tips! Don't forget to move your claymores in a position where the enemy can’t see them. The only obvious place for a claymore is on top of a ladder. It's good for at least one kill a game. Other than that...spread the love. Let your teammates know where you put them. If they ignore the big red icon and blow up its there own damn fault.

When you want to get a kill from a long distance you have to allow for drop. The bullet will always go straight but you will need to aim the center of the crosshair a few pixels up from the target. It takes a little practice but you will get the hang of it.

    Burning spies is cool.

Only go for headshots when your target is completely still (don't go for headshots when he simply stopped for a moment, wait till youa re sure you can make the shot) in general go for a body shot. In tactical mod (if you play it) watch targets that are down so you can kill them again if a medic revives them (in tactical mod you are revived heavily damaged. Use your ghille suit and use shadows, there is nothing better than the rare shadowy building to shoot out of. Change postions when you think the enemy has seen you. BE PATIENT!
The art of war is simple enough. Find out where your enemy is. Get at him as soon as you can. Strike him as hard as you can, and keep moving.

    Re: Any good snipers about?

Either join a sniper squad when you see someone make one or make a sniper squad, and if you are lucky, someone experienced will join you. Then you can just follow him around and watch what he does. Do this on the USMC side, because some people play the opfor snipers like they are an assault class.

A big change has happened in the game since last summer. People now are very aware of where snipers will be found on every map, and they will sniff you out very quickly if you miss them. Generally, if you look up and see a spot which looks great for a sniper, it isn't a good spot. Make sure you read the signs as you look through your scope so that you know if they are trying to spot you. Hold your fire to make it difficult for them to deduce your direction. Once you know you've been spotted, it is time to reposition yourself to kill the guy who comes to knife you.

Remember that occupying people with trying to catch you is at least as good as killing targets in terms of helping your team.

As for aiming, experiment to get a feel for it. When the range gets long, aim above their heads a little. If you miss, it was probably too high. If you hit but don't get a headshot, it was too low.
