    Getting squads to merge

When I ask a squad to merge with another one and they dont, thats not following orders right?

Can I report those players in on ts?
Hear ye, of the dragon, Smoke is his name.
    Solely surviving the fires,
and sad and angry he became.
    Until his angre became dismay,
as the elders sent him away.

Now we can hear his wings, once a year,
And, his empty cry we fear.
Sad old Smoke, out there in the rain,
We can feel your suffering, we can feel your pain.

    Re: Getting squads to merge

That's a great question, and I'd like an answer as well. It's a shame to CO has a "Divide into 2 squads" command, but not a "group up with squad" command. 4 two-man squads are worthless, IMO.

Following orders is a pretty explicitly stated rule of playing on TG. I think you are not being unreasonable to raise it to an Admin on TS, and then it's up to the Admin to decide how best to handle it.

You run into this problem all the time when there are many people new to TG on the server...I had a guy in a squad last night that was totally unresponsive to my requests...turned out he couldn't hear anything the squad was saying on voip. A few typed "squad" messages had the guy sorted out and he was aces from there.

Not all insubordination is deliberate or ill-willed.

    Cheers.

    Re: Getting squads to merge

CO orders are to be followed, period. Any squad or player who disobeys is in violation of that rule and can be reported to an admin for action.

    Re: Getting squads to merge

I tell bommando all the time when i see 1 man squads up through TS. He sends out a global warning saying "merge small squads", and then after about a minute or two he asks for an update on the small squads. If they havent merged, i type the beginnings of all their names in global chat and theyre gone rather quickly with little pain on my end (though probably quite a bit on bom's ).

The small squads really annoy me. The majority of them are just making a squad as a loophole and i love to see them get kicked for it. Just be careful because some people might be in a jet squad or have some other special reason why they are by themselfs. Its generally obvious though.

I strongly advice anyone that wants to rid the server of smacktards to get on TS and report every infraction you see. Just make sure you dont tell the admins what to do, just the infraction that you saw. I know ive done that in the past thinking it would help them out a bit, but they know the proper warn/kick/ban procedure for any infraction better than us.

Good point. However, I bet there are bunch of cases where people go out and get a mic etc. after having played TG! In the case of the fellow I referred to the other night once he was sorted out he seemed eager to follow orders.

The requirement is not to have a mic. What we require is that people on this server can hear all voice communications. If you can't do that then your gonna have issues with following orders issued through voip.

    Re: Getting squads to merge

To present another side of this *Prepares to get beaten down with words *, what about this situation? Today I was on the server and there were around 6 or 7 seven squads. About five of them were full or close to full. I looked at the mini map and squad screen to find what squad I wanted to join. One squad was entitled Mics and since I play with no mic, I didn't join that one. Another squad was full and had 6 people in it, all with TG tags. We had 2 CPs under our control. All of the squads but one ( I believe ) was at the center flag, defending, attacking from that position. The other squad was defending another flag.

Now when I play, I usually like my games laid back. I like to defend a semi-crucial spot that sees some action, but not the hectic levels of some center flag where half of both teams are. I also like to do a lot of flanking and stealthy maneuvers and attack lightly defended CPs and holding them. None of the squads I saw were doing this. Seeing that none of the squads were using the tactics I enjoy most, were full, or had a SL in a jet or heli, I decided to form my own. I know I have no mic but I still like to squad lead every once in a while. I spawned at the UCB and began issuing my own orders and executing them. After a few minutes, I hear Bommando over the VOIP system asking me and another squad to join a small squad. This was to merge the small squads. I gladly accepted and joined right away. When I joined the other squad, I found my SL was in a chopper flying around. I kept asking for orders but I never received any. I just started sort of hanging around another squad, defending with them. I didn't want to start a new squad because that would be disobeying CO orders. I have actually had this experience a couple of times, usually some people join my squad before I am asked to merge though. What’s a micless guy to do?
(Sorry that took so long to get down to it) (Please don't say just buy a mic...)

Im by no means the final say on that, but if i were in that position and were told to merge with another squad, i would politely explain in text chat why i made a one man squad. The reason these one man squads are kicked is because its a loophole in the forced squad system we have here. If you have a legit reason, i wouldnt see a problem with it. However if my one man squad didnt even have anyone join after ~5 minutes, id likely join someone else. If that someone else isnt giving orders like you said, then get an admin about that.

I often consider typing things like this in global chat but it is off of the screen within a half a second with so many people typing and spotting. A lot of the time, there is no admin on. Bommando was the CO and I doubt he would have noticed it. I think alot of people just see a one man squad and don't think that that person wants to lead a squad or play using their tactics. Like you said, they just think they are exploiting a rule.

Is it a rule that you actually have to give orders to your squad? I guess the admins can ask the SL to issue orders but with all of these new players, a good portion don't respond. I just didn't like being forced into a squad with no orders and a SL in a helo. I will just have to be more tolerant of orderless squads and wandering SLs for now on. I am just used to the old TG way.

    Re: Getting squads to merge

SLs that are flying choppers and ignoring their squad members on the ground are being negligent of their duties as a squad leader (as long as they aren't in a chopper squad, but they should still be keeping tabs on how many are in their squad and make sure people are on task). Please report them.
