TG movie
This has been talked about several times, but nothing has actually happened yet, so I just wanted to see if anyone would be interested?
If people are interested I have made up a little plan that involves around 14 people. It is just basically attacking a flag with lots of teamwork involved. If people are interested I will put up more detail.
Thoughts?|TG| Lorian

Re: TG movie
Sounds good. I'd be game, when and where. What kind of movie are you looking at here? Something instructional for new players internal to TG, or something showcasing TG for distrubution external to TG?

Re: TG movie
Ugg, trying to get a movie going? Yes, there has been lots of talk in the past, but nothing has actually happened. It requires a lot more organization that one would think to put together a movie.

Re: TG movie
yeah, there's been a few movie threads:
http://www.tacticalgamer.com/search.php?searchid=418597
we've already actually filmed some stuff a while back - not sure what happened to that footage?

Re: TG movie
Yeah, that footage was filmed in an old version, freeky sent me the BF recorder files to make a movie out of, and BF just crashed (I had reverted to the version it was recorded in), so I think that is pretty much a lost cause.
I don't think that will be an issue now though, 1.4 seems to be the big patch and won't be another for a while.
So anyway, it will just be showing the kind of stuff that goes on at TG, the teamwork basically.
We need to know the number of people wh would be willing to help though before we can get organised with a script.
Please post here if you would be willing to help out.|TG| Lorian

Re: TG movie
Not sure what the real goal is, but I honestly think it'd be best is to use footage recorded live/in-game... not staged... it's a lot more impressive that way. If footage is staged, people can tell. Plus anyone can do that. What really set's TG apart is the quality of daily play on the server...
I suppose to allow BR to run smoothly, we might have to setup some 32p scrimmages - maybe do two short rounds of PoE2 (Fallen?), TacMod, and maybe even a round or two of Vanilla?
Have all participants follow SOPs and show what TG is all about. I suppose you'd need the SL's to record audio live right? (to get the VOIP comms between them and CO/SM's)
[edit: this is based on my experience with Feel the Fear. Althought the editing/audio took about a hundred hours, we did the filming rather off-the-cuff, and it shows - with the cliche bad guys too inept to shoot the ocean from a boat, etc
On the other hand, having a "All footage taken from open gameplay" (or something) would add some punch and credibility to the movie...
"THAT'S how they play every night?! I gotta check that out!!" as opposed to "hm. another decent BF2 movie. <click>"]Last edited by WhiskeySix; 10-02-2006 at 04:21 PM.

Re: TG movie
I never got paid for my role in that footage.

PLUS, there were red smarties in my trailer. I specifically requested that those ones be removed.
I will be demanding up-front payment for future roles.Peace through fear... since 1947!

Re: TG movie
Good idea there, I think the people who how powerful systems could run Fraps in the background, so clips from the first person perspective can be included as well as BR rendered.
Correct, TS audio can be captured, but that does not hold for in-game VOIP. I think SLs should be required to run Audacity in the background (unless they are running Fraps, where the sound is captured anyway).
Assuming it is done this way, I will provide commands for encoding the Fraps and Audacity output, obviously it can't be transferred losslessly, so I will get them encoded same as output format. On that topic, I'm thinking we make 3 versions, 720x576 16:9 (PAL), 720x540 16:9 (NTSC), 640x480 (YouTube etc.).
I will experiment with Fraps to see how I can cut it to 16:9 without losing too much of the HUD.|TG| Lorian

Re: TG movie
Ok, thoughts?
Original
Widescreen
Fullscreen (4:3)
640x480
One advantage of the widescreen is that the Fraps logo is chopped off
It depends how important the HUD is really, if we need it then it'll have to be 4:3.|TG| Lorian

Re: TG movie
wide screen's where it's at... and I think you can make this format (crop) when you render the final movie in whatever software...

Re: TG movie
I will be doing the editing in Adobe Premiere, and the final encoding with mencoder for the 640x480 (I will call it the internet version from now on), and will use transcode for the DVD style version.
Just a note, Fraps videos will need to be recorded at 1024x768. Widescreen, while encoded at 720x576, and viewed on the TV at 720x576, it is upscaled to 1024x576 at monitor aspect ratio. To show you what I mean, this is the widescreen image as it is given to the TV: link. The pixels on a TV are not square, which is why it doesn't look squashed. But it has to be stretched for the square pixels on a monitor.|TG| Lorian

Re: TG movie
I'm sure there are people willing to lower there settings and play at 1024x768 to make up for the Fraps resource hog.

Re: TG movie
do you need FRAPs if BR is running? shouldn't capturing the unique audio per SL be enough?

. I get it, but who can run FRAPS while playing a normal game?
