To purchase or not to purchase...

    That is the question.

I was thinking about picking up BF2 the other day, but then I remembered that BF2142 would be coming out. The demo doesn't work at all for me, so I doubt I will be purchasing that lump of nonsense. But will the BF2 community still be in force after the release of 2142 or will there be a mass exodus to 2142? I don't want to purchase BF2 and not have anyone on TG to game with.

I can assure you that there will NOT be a mass exodus to 2142. Right now, Point of Existance 2 is the hot mod, and there are more free mods on the horizon. I would not worry about this game becoming obsolete anytime soon.

Atomic - buy it. That way I don't have to be the server noob any more

It's good stuff, and I'm sure when I finally get to game with TG'ers instead of the pubbies that use our server, it'll be a fun time for all.

If you take a look at the 2142 forums, the opinions are pretty mixed so I dont think you'll see a mass exodus out the door.

I've got to agree with Bane on this one. What with all the problems in the demo I can't see lots of people leaving BF2 or POE for 2142. Me? I'm not even buying 2142. I like POE way too much to stop playing it.

When you get it make sure you apply all of the patches and install Tac-Mod.

I'm not moving to BF2142, digging POE2 too much. And, not really into the futuristic thing. Besides, its taken almost 12 months to get BF2 stable on my Alienware, I don't have another 12 months to give EA!

Off-topic: Good grief, Root, leave some games for other people to admin :P

On-topic: I imagine I'll be playing both. No need to suddenly stop playing a perfectly good game entirely just to make time for a new one.

Yeah there's always room for both. I still love playing BF2/Tacmod/PRMM and even POE2. I've already got 2142 preordered so I will definitely be playing that once it comes out next week.

As said buy bf2. 2142 just lacks the wow factor for me, only the titans are cool, and inside the titan it plays like the carrier map on bf2 sf: Never above 16 fps.

UT 2004 somehow looks just as good yet it's soo much smoother.

Then there are the great mods coming out! Forgotten hope!

Like Tempus says. I think BF2 has a lot of legs left in it. I know I'll play 2142 as well, but I don't see abandoning BF2.

    Cheers.

There will probably be an exodus. But the the question is who is going to take part of it. From what I seen, 2142 is probably really awaited by the younger teenage style players. After all, 2142 is going to be newer, flashier graphics and such.

But most of the more mature players are probably going to stick to BF2 for the time simply because, as many people already said, 2142 is probably going to be extremely unstable.

So in the end, 2142 is probably a good thing because it will raise the level of play in BF2. No longer will there be so many people simply playing BF2 because it is one of the newest game.
