Yep, a really powerful CPU and hopefully NOT a physics card. (Die, PhysX! I'll buy it if it's $40!)

Re: Future of gaming
I think Crysis has all destructable buildings. Not sure. And I just want to feel the weight of the rifle, I want to feel the heat in Karkand or the cold in Dnister. everything else is all good, but full immersion is where we're headed.

Re: Future of gaming
Imagine how the chain of command would need to be worked out with BF3 if the amount of players were doulbed.
Currently it looks like this.
1 Platoon leader. 1-32 players in a Platoon.
up to 9 squads. 1-6 players in a squad.
This allows the CO to handle up to 9 squads. In scrims and such it is usally around 7 tops.
Now, what if we have
64 players. Instead of having up to 9 squads there would be up to 18! Imagine trying to negotiate this.
With 64 players the CO would have a Company.
I have created a system that creates two Lt. for the CO to have aid him/her.
64 vs. 64.
1 CO per Company. (1 player and up to 64 players in a Company)
1-2 Platoon Leaders per Company. (1 player and up to 32 players in a Platoon)
1-18 Squads per Company. (1 player and up to 8 players in a squad)
1-9 Squads per Platoon
The two Platoon leaders would be the Lt. I think it would be cool for one Platoon to be a Rifle Platoon (infantry, snipers, recon) and the other to be a Support Platoon (tanks, jets, choppers, engineers, Special Forces)
If it were 128 vs 128 it would be
128 vs.128
1 CO per Company (1 player and up to 128 players in a Company)
1-4 Platoon Leaders per Company (1 player and up to 32 players in a Platoon)
1-36 squads per Company (1 player and up to 8 players in a squad)
1-9 squads per Platoon.
In this situation it would be two Rifle Platoons and two Support Platoons.(PO3) Marcinko_R. (BF2 PR .509) Squad Member

Re: Future of gaming
Greetings.
I dug up this ol thread from the basement.
I read something on the PR forums that got me thinking.
So a question with regards to PR?
In time, when player's machines and servers are better, the actual view distance on maps can be increased and the fog lifted, right?
Granted, when this happens, BF2 will be old and hardly anyone will be playing it, because they would have moved on to the next big game. (two years in the future I guess.)
Just curious about how long PR will be around, and if it is for a while, will we finally be able to see 1,000 meters with a scope. Plus, the scale of the map and statics could be increased also, no?
___
PS, I reread the entries.
1. PR has buildings blowing up now.
2. And in .6 the shovel is coming.
Hey, time travels fast when you're having fun.Last edited by Rick_the_new_guy; 03-29-2007 at 02:49 PM.

Re: Future of gaming
1. Embedded videographers. Neutral, no combat role, no spotting capability or communication with team players (thus no threat or intell features), and un-killable, so action can be recorded in game without resorting to battle recorder and without interferring with the game.
2. Unarmed civilians -- random AI generated. Kill them and loose points.
3. Nurses. Gotta have more nurses. Nice ones with big med kits.
4. Haliburton contractors running around making huge profits at the tax payers' expense.
5. An insane Commander-in-Chief who occasionally flys in and tells the loosing side that everything is going great, mission accomplished, and so on.Last edited by E-Male; 03-29-2007 at 06:42 PM.
