    Bad night at BF2, rant

Sorry guys, right now you're going LC who? Yeah I know I don't make it around the TG server. Not that when I do I make much of an impression but I try to play right and try to do my best but alas I get smoked more than I even see the enemy.

OK now on with my rant, don't take this the wrong way cuz I love the server and when I have time I play here. However sometimes I want to try to win some medals to see what they look like and I play on a *gasp* ranked public server. I know I know theres the problem right away you think; but, I just want to know why no matter how much I practice or how much I play on any server (yours included) that I suck soooooo bad at every game online. Mostly COD 2 and BF2.

It makes me wish for the sequel to OFP but with that I know I will be that much worse at another game. So, tail between my legs I ask someone to help me out sometime and link up with me in a squad to tell me what Im doing sooo wrong. I know we all have bad days and I know we all can't have K/D ratio of 1000/2 but I just wish mine would be somewhat closer to 50%. Any tips? Should I stick with one class like assault or stick with a vehicle? Anything would be appriciated to make me a better member of any squad unlucky enough to get me.

Please help, I'm at my multiplayer end here.

The biggest things that can improve your gameplay at BF2 is 3 things. Play in a squad that is geared towards teamwork. You will win EVERY firefight this side of Mantis when you have 2 guns trained on 1 enemy. Secondly, try practicing with the TG-Irregulars who run practices roughly every week to 2 weeks. They are a great proving ground for new people to learn from some of the finest trainers TG has. 3rd, TG University, TGU, has a series of modules that you can work through and you will find you will dramatically improve your game play.

    All the best!

Re: Bad night at BF2, rant

Everything that lucky said makes a lot of sense.

I'm old so my twitch skills really aren't up to speed as many of the other talented players in the BF2 community. Therefore I specialize as medic when playing BF2. I try to stay off the frontlines and engage only when necessary or when ordered to. I focus on keeping people alive and I do an okay job of it so medic is my preferred role. One of the great things about BF2 at TG is the teamwork of organized squads. A good medic is equally as valuable as a ripping assaulter. If you are consistently getting owned at assault think about specializing with a support role like medic, support or engineer.

On a more tangible side--Come play our own BF2 mod called Tac Mod or the newly released Project Reality Mini Mod. They run on Tuesday's and Thursdays. We also run a custom modded Call of Duty 2 server that has regularly scheduled games on Wednesday's and Sundays. Both the BF2 and COD2 mods reward the cautious player and squad and promote tight teamwork and small unit tactics. You are welcome to join up with a 1st MIP squad if you see any slots open. The first MIP focuses on using standard operating procedures within an Alpha/Bravo fire team environment. Or course this requires mature gamers who are amenable to following orders and playing an assigned kit during games.

There are many many skilled Squad Leaders within the TG community, including Lucky. Like he said, hooking up with one of them can be the best way to learn by assimilation. And besides--here at TG score is less important than solid game play.

Don't worry--it's okay to play on pubbies. Many TG'ers do. I'd hazard a guess that after spending significant time on a TG server your performance on a pubbie server will increase dramatically.

Welcome and hope to see you around more.

Learn the maps. One of the best ways to keep your k/d good is to know the map you are playing on. Use cover/obstacles to your advantage.

Try to fight where you know the enemy is. Meaning near the UAV. Near "spotted" enemies. Knowing where and enemy is and what direction he is facing can give you an easy kill.

Watch the radar. If you see one of your teamates die on the mini map then you know there must be an enemy near, and act accordingly.

Edit: If you are in a squad with a medic and they revive you, then that does NOT count as a death. I have ended up games 20 kills and 2 deaths because of a very good medic in my squad.

I need to re-iterate part of what Lucky said because its what I feel is very important. This sort of feeling is exactly why TGU was formed.

Tactical gamer University will teach you the basic tactics that will help you win firefights. We at TGU will show you everything you need to know to become a contributing member of your squad and thus add to your enjoyment of the game. (hopefully)

You mentioned that most of the time you die you don't even see the enemy.
This leads me to believe that you place yourself (in-game) in areas that you cannot control and thus are open to engagement from several sides at once, leading to your quick demise.

This is something TGU can help you with. While I have no sworn testimonies or anything like that, TG veterans have attended the modules and told me they've walked away with more than they started with.

At the very least I find the modules pretty fun and would be very willing to run a small squad version of them. All it takes is to ask and arrange a time.

BTW, I will probably be running a small one this Saturday evening at 9PM EST for some RL friends who recently (finally) took the plunge into BF2.
(anyone is encouraged to attend though)

In summation please peruse our wiki which details the first 5 modules
Tactical Gamer University Wiki and PM me if I can help in any way.

These guys pretty much sum it up LC. I would add that IMO, it's best to stick with a particular kit until you're confident enough to venture to a new one. Learning how your weapon reacts in a fire fight will give you an idea of how to use it to your advantage. And be aware of your environment ie, not running out into the road when there's a tank there, (something I frequently do lol) etc. The mini map is probably the greatest asset you have so pay close attention to it.

Thanks guys, I will have to keep trying and do some of the university things, couldn't hurt thats for sure.

One more question, I tried a search for it but couldnt find what I was looking for. Is anyone using a Saitek X45 to fly in game and if so, how do you have it set for controls? I can't seem to get it to recognize the throttle.

    1) Always welcome to join my squad, will pay special attention to how you do.
    2) Do you know the basics of FPS?
By this I mean the various techniques that come back in most shooters.

Let my type up a few for you. Basically some personal guide lines.

    a) If you are engaging an enemy at a reasonable distance, and you are both behind cover, either go get him or run away; a grenade is about to hit your head if you don't.

    b) "Slice the pie" when you round corners. If you don't know what this means, look it up on some military site, you need to know that technique in any fps.

    c) I'm not a twitch player at all, so I try and always have a squadmate within view or otherwise close by; this will either give you a warning as your mate is shot, so you can revive and kill the e, or you will be shot and your mate can avenge you etc. The point here is to make your deaths useful, even if you don't fire at all.

I've just tailored most of my gameplay to eliminate the need for twitch.

    Greetings LC34
One route you can take is the CO seat.

BF2 van has very user friendly CO position.

Keep the assests going and supporting the team, throw down a defense marker here, an attack marker there, and your good.

Once you get better, and SLs start to work well with you, start your trick plays and stuff.

Of course the scrims are great as a CO because you get to plan the teams tactics and plan of action. no pressure, hehe.

    P.S. join BigGayAl's squad.

Try what everyone has suggested, but if all else fails..drink a couple of beers or take a few shots- it calms you down.

Why does it always come back to alcohol NorCal. Maybe it’s time to go back to those special meetings.

    LC34,

Irregular practice can do wonders but you still have to learn to shoot. I would go to an empty server and practice my weapon of choice. You would be amazed how much you can learn shooting at trees. For example, for some reason my cross hair for the support gun doesn’t display correctly. I learned I’m more accurate when I aim about two or three pixels to the left. It’s simple little things like that will improve your game as well as help you learn your surroundings. Try it.

    Burning spies is cool.
