New to BF2
I know this may be a shocker to some people who have been playing this game for a while, but I am new to BF2. I finally have a computer that is powerful enough to play online games with high settings so here I am. I've been playing for only two weeks so I am still very fresh. One of the attractions of this game was the team aspect. I've been playing on public servers and can honestly say, they have turned me somewhat off to the game. There is little teamwork to be found and no coordination. I found this site while browsing and figured this would be a good place to check out. I am interested in the TGU stuff, that seems really cool. Plus I am tired of getting my you know what kicked around. My stats aren't very good. I have around a 1:2 kill to death ratio playing medic mostly. I have just over 1700 points which puts me just over 700 points away from becoming a SGT.
Anyway, I am just looking for somewhere where I can learn this game from other players. I have no idea when or where everyone plays. Can someone fill me in?

Re: New to BF2
Welcome! We don't really play "Vanilla" BF2 here much anymore. Mostly it's Project Reality, Point of Existence 2, or Tactical mod. Download and install all 3 of them. They make it like 3 different games.
Join a TG server that is led by a player using the "TG" tag in front of thier name. Let the Squad Leader know that you are new and I guarantee that they will help you out.
Check out the TGU forum for dates on events. TGU sounds like it is exactly what you are looking for.
Feel free to join any of the Irregulars practices. You can find the Irregs forum link in my signature. I guarantee you will learn something.
Make sure you read the TG server rules and SOP's. You can find the links in my sig and they will answer a ton of questions before you have them.
Good luck and once again welcome to TG!
edit: BTW the TG BF2 servers are not ranked so playing on a TG server will not count toward your ranks. After you play a round in a TG squad you won't care anymore.Retired 6th DB

Re: New to BF2
I am downloading the Tactical Mod and map packs right now. So the link says there will be playing tonight at 8p ET, is this true?

Re: New to BF2
A more true statement there has never been. Fromthecoast once you play here for a few days you'll quickly realize that all the unlocks in the world won't make up for great team play.
Edit: Yes we'll be on tonight. Thursdays and Sundays are TacMod nights. Oh and just a heads up, the weapons in TacMod and Project Reality have been "tweaked" to give more realism to the game. Don't be surprised if someone jumps around a corner and kills you with one shot as opposed to 2 or 3 from a normal BF2 weapon. Have fun!!

Re: New to BF2
The only thing so far that is fun about the ranked servers is achieving rank. That was a cool concept, but it becomes very frustrating trying to achieve it. So will people be playing tonight?

Re: New to BF2
Hmm yeah I think they are doing tac-mod tonight but I can't swear to it. If it is tac-mod then it will start picking up around 8pm EST. Make sure you let the SL know that you are new to BF2 in general and they will help you out.

Re: New to BF2
Well it looks like the next night for Tac-Mod will be this sunday. Finish the download and get it installed. Download POE2 next and install it. There is already a few people on that server. It's a big download (around a gig) so you want to get it started early.

Re: New to BF2
Glad to have you on board. TG is the best place to play BF2 or any of it's mods. Tac mod was developed in house here at TG and when the Project Reality Mod came out it took, has taken somewhat of a backseat to it. That's about to change as Tac mod is coming back for regular Sunday games. Download POE 2 as Wimp said and cmon and play on the POE2 server between rounds of PRM and TACMOD. We're glad you are here !!

Re: New to BF2
What is being played tonight? I downloaded Tactical Mod and like 5 map packs and it said I didn't have the right mod to join the server.

Re: New to BF2
I'm not sure about tacmod, but I know that the PoE2 server generally has a good showing from around 6pm PST to 10 pm. As a new player, I highly recommend checking out the Irregs and also, like you mentioned the TGU forums to see what might catch your interests. Also like wimp said, when you finally get all your DL's and patches up to date, feel free to hop on a squad led by a TG member. Let them know you're new, and ask away. Any member will gladly help you out and give you tips on how to stay alive and flourish.
BF2 can be a very frustrating game, but once you get the hang of the way things are done here at TG, you'll dominate on any other public server you play on. But come back ya hear! TG will most likely be the last place you play multi player games!!!
