Re: Interest levels in the Tactical Mod?
Have to agree here. After playing POE and PRM, the inaccuracy of the weapons in Tacmod makes it pretty frustrating. There were times when I'd get the jump on someone and fire three or four bursts just to have them hit me with the RPK. Tacmod is fun on a full server, but the small teams action is usually too frustrating.

I guess I am just opposite of everyone here. I find the weapons accurate, deadly and I think the small games are very intense and lots of fun.

Re: Interest levels in the Tactical Mod?
I'll throw out the suggestion of moving Tac Mod night to a Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday. It seems there are less generally less TG regulars on the POE2 server those nights (as Thurs-Sun are always packed), meaning less than stellar quality games. I'd be more than happy to get some Tac Mod fill on one of those nights.
I've been in the camp lately that if there are 20+ people in when I check the server, I'll hop in. I haven't seen that since just after we started PR on server, unfortunately.Last edited by Beatnik; 01-30-2007 at 07:10 PM.

Re: Interest levels in the Tactical Mod?
Still interested, not willing to play with tiny teams. If TGers don't care, I'm not going to hold a torch.
BUT IT'S OUR OWN F^&*^*&( MOD FOR CRYING OUT LOUD.
Earlier on Sun is good by me...
I get slaughtered every time I play, but I still want to play.
IT'S A TG THANG.

Re: Interest levels in the Tactical Mod?
Is Tacmod on for this Sunday (February 11)? I know we have a few itchy trigger fingers since we have not played in a while.

It is not a good time right after PR 0.5 release Gahlas.

Re: Interest levels in the Tactical Mod?
Jeez, this stinks. There is some reason every week why no one wants to play. Can't you guys support your community born mod? PR will be there later, we have Tacmod once a week. More recently, once a month.

Re: Interest levels in the Tactical Mod?
Gahlas what I am going to write here is just my opinion, not an official announcement.
Those two words (Tac Mod) mean a lot to me. During the run-'n-gun days of BF2 vanilla, Tac Mod was the heaven some of us could enjoy BF2 again. I will never forget Duke's amazing gift to TG.
But time has changed. Development of Tac Mod stopped. New mods/games are coming and will continue to come. Tactical Mod can no longer be a regular activity due to its halted development.
Best role for Tac Mod is under "special events" category. Those of us who have fond memories of the mod should reserve the "Events" server, make a roll call (at least one week before the event) and get together, just like the good old days.
Dont expect someone else to take the lead. You take it ! Organize it. Server is ready, mod is ready, admins are ready, fans are ready. Someone with self motivation should step up, bring all these together and make it happen. As frequent as you want.
Nothing...nothing will be accomplished by expecting someone else to do the work. If you want Tactical Mod, become a Tac Mod event organizer.

Re: Interest levels in the Tactical Mod?
Your right John, someone with self motivation should organize something. I wish I had that. I am terrible at organizing anything. Heck, I am not an SM. I don't even use a mic. Unforunatly motivation isn't a strong suit of mine. I just wish people would show more intrest. Last time we played we maxed out at like 12 people. Everyone says they love Tacmod but you look on Sunday when the server is up and see everyone on the POE server.
Whatever, I'll just play singleplayer if Tacmod isn't going to be on anymore.
After thought: Doesn't my non-SM status prevent me from doing anything with the event server? That is for SMs only no?

Re: Interest levels in the Tactical Mod?
playing PR is actually like playing Tacmod since asch and duke were swapping ideas with the Project Reality team during the development. Also, asch is a PR developer now so you could say there is some TG in Project Reality. Like others have said the small things that have been polished in PR over the past two versions have surpassed what made tacmod different from vBF2. Also, now that both of kilrogg's maps, Operation Phoenix and Inishail Forest, are in PR there is little reason, maybe Port Fear, to play other than for old times sake.
As for there only being 12 people, there were plenty of nights where 12 people were all we were able to muster for a night of tacmod. Sure we had some games where we came close to a full server but I don't think you could say 50+ was the norm for a tacmod night.

Re: Interest levels in the Tactical Mod?
PR doesn't come close to what Tacmod does IMO. The old motto for Tacmod was "The way BF2 should have been made" but I disagree with that. It should be "The way BF2 should be played." Tacmod is a fantastic mod, all of the elements make it really balanced and add fantastic game play. What makes Tacmod stand out is the way it is played. In other mods will you not find the gameplay slowed down to a realistic level. Creeping through the forest, setting up detailed defensive positions. Taking time to set your self up, learn the area, feel the game. To me nothing else does this.
I play PR, POE anyother mod and it feels like some hectic vanilla ranked game. People charging right at you, millions of people swarming around a flag. In Tacmod it felt real. You kept your head down, you moved slow. No other mod plays like this. Just my opinion. I guess no one feels the same. I keep picturing a kid in a room with a good fun toy he grew up with. Then he looks in the corner and sees some plastic, brightly painted toy and disguards the old one and rushes over.
Sorry, I'll be quite now.

Re: Interest levels in the Tactical Mod?
Weeks passed, and the little Rabbit grew very old and shabby, but the Boy loved him just as much. He loved him so hard that he loved all his whiskers off, and the pink lining to his ears turned grey, and his brown spots faded. He even began to lose his shape, and he scarcely looked like a rabbit any more, except to the Boy. To him he was always beautiful, and that was all that the little Rabbit cared about. He didn't mind how he looked to other people, because the nursery magic had made him Real, and when you are Real shabbiness doesn't matter
