See I don't think it's the game mechanics but who/how many are playing. For most of the tacmod nights there were a dedicated few. A lot of the games were small sided with maybe 12 on each side. Tacmod is also a pretty private mod so an overwhelming majority of the players are TG oriented, leading to a more cohesive experience and mature style of playing. PR and POE with created weapons and vehicles can attract people who are simply looking for new content rather than a tactical style of play. Unlike tacmod, the PR and POE servers populate by themselves whether or not TGers are on or not and at least for PR, the public players tend to out number Tactical Gamers so controlling the flow of the game is a lot harder. With the popularity of the mods we play with full servers a good majority of the time and 32 vs 32 is an entirely different ball game than small sided affairs. I bet if we had a private PR server night the games would be very similar to tacmod nights.
I may not have gone where I intended to go, but I think I have ended up where I needed to be.

I wasn't saying that the mechanics are the same or that they don't matter. They certainly matter and is why I prefer PR over tacmod. I was saying what made tacmod feel more tactical and the movement more cohesive was the small sided settings and the strong TG player base. So having a private server PR night would bring the same feelings but with an upgraded gameplay that allows for better tactical play than tacmod yet still provides the same cautious and methodical play that tacmod delivered.

As previously mentioned, the tactical mod halted development with the departure of Duke. We kept playing the mod to bring the community together and offer an alternative to BF vanilla.
The reality mod has worked with TG to incorporate many of the features that separated tacmod from vanilla... and PR has taken their mod much further than we ever did. There isn't much that tac mod has that PR doesn't.
What aculle touched on is important. It is the players that come together that makes a difference in the game play. If the same 40 players played tac mod and played PR, the way the players act would be very similar... but PR now offers many more features.
It sounds like we need to try and rally the TGers together on the PR server and I think we'll see that top notch quality game play. Maybe we get back to dedicating Thurs & Sun to PR. This will not only increase the quality of play for PR... but hopefully grow the TG PR player-base so that we can consistently have quality games 24/7.
