Re: Working on TG-Irregulars Platoon

Hi

I'm new to TG but the few hours I played on your server so far have been the most fun since I first played this game.

I know Shirk in "RealLife (TM)" and it was he who pointed me in this direction.

I have spent quite a lot of time playing as a SL in vanilla BF2 but am happy to learn any position in TG.

My strengths:
Vehicles: Aircraft, Choppers, and a bit of armour.
Infantry: Sniper, Spec Ops, Assault, AntiTank.

Having said that, I love all aspects of the game, and will play any role assigned. I have a nice rig to play on and I live in the UK. I can also help with other techie stuff if needed.

Re: Working on TG-Irregulars Platoon

Thanks for the enthusiasm guys.....we will keep all names listed and their kits and positions, so count yourselves in smallfatcat and FlipYa54 (which hasnt posted kit/position/strengths...lol). Coordination is being made with ABRA as far as training and scrims, so be patient and it will work it self out in due time.....keep the faith, stay alive.

Working on the training aspect of the Irr's, so we will definitely keep you in mind for AT training. Thanks for tossing your hat in.

Re: Working on TG-Irregulars Platoon

I know you said you've already cut off registration but should you guys decide you'd like more members, I'd like to join.

I'll play just about any kit needed though I prefer Medic, Assault, or Special Ops. I like having an accuarte gun since I'm the kind of person to hang back and pick off guys a long range. (I'll snipe if I can use the M24) I'm a competent with just about every vehicle in the game (Including attack choppers and jets). I'm getting pretty good in the jets too. (The other night JMJ was trying to get a better pilot on his team (over teamspeak) to fly against me because I was doing so well).

I can SL, as long as the commander gives out orders often enough, but I prefer not to. I have CO'ed three games on the TG servers. One on Wake (I was on China) where we managed to come back and win after only having the beach CP. (I got in CO because we were losing so bad) One was on Kubra where I played as the US. We totally crushed the other team and took every flag. (The server was near full too) The last one was on Mashtuur where I lost because the enemy took out my assests and only one of my squads ever came and repaired them when I asked (it took them a long time though) so I was blind most of the game. I also had a hard time trying to get SL's to follow orders in that game. I often had to give them the same order multiple times and tell them to do it over VOIP before they'd listen.

So, basically, I can do whatever you need with a reasonable amount of competence, though I prefer to either be airborne, or to be ground-pounding as a medic.

Also, just in case it matters: I'm in Arizona, so it is Mountain Standard Time, but without Daylight Savings.

Yeah so like the dude said; I'm an (self-proclaimed) excellent jet-pilot, and a 'pretty good' chopper pilot... Too bad about my late post but I had an urgent matter to deal with... I could also be considered to be good as a support-kit player or a medic and I'm a mediocre (but very fanatic) sniper... If I could be joined into Douwe21's roster I would be very appreciative...

Tx

Re: Working on TG-Irregulars Platoon

I know there is still significant interest in the irregulars and the cut off is onlyto stop us being overwhelmed at this early stage. As soon as things are a little more fixed (which shouldnt be long) we will throw the doors open again. Thanks again for the interest, and the volunteers we will get to you as soon as possible.

Roster looks great, and the divisional squads too. I 've played with a few names from my squad (Charlie) before, and will be proud to fight along side them again.

Re: Working on TG-Irregulars Platoon

Thanks for the compliments Shafik and eeryone else who has left such positive feedback. One thing to bear in mind about the roster is that these squads will probably not make it to the battlefield as a single entity. In actuality it is likely more natural squad qroupings will form up and we can rejig the roster. For example with you being quite a way ahead of the US in time zone it is probably more likely you will be seeing more of the European players and may be more sensible to slot in with us. Im sure others will find they have more natural homes as well. We will see what emerges.

Re: Working on TG-Irregulars Platoon

sorry - been super busy at work for the last 2 weeks so i havne't been able to contribute to this as much as i'd like - hopefully after the holidays things will lighten up a bit...

Couple of quick comments

1) The whole point: Just to be clear, I see this platoon serving three types of people (generally):
  • Non-SM's that are looking for consistent teammates and tactics.
  • SM's looking for consistent teammates and tactics, but that can't make the full time commitment (practices, scrims, etc) required by in-house squads.
  • SM's contributing TG experience and tactics to help 'learn-up' newer folks
2) The name... I really don't like "irregulars"... nothing inspiring about that... I'm thinking more something like "Volunteers" or "Militia"...something with a little more character...
Quote:
mi·li·tia (mə-lĭsh'ə) pronunciation
n.

1. An army composed of ordinary citizens rather than professional soldiers.
2. A military force that is not part of a regular army and is subject to call for service in an emergency.
3. The whole body of physically fit civilians eligible by law for military service.

[Latin mīlitia, warfare, military service, from mīles, mīlit-, soldier.]
3) Ensignia - we need something to put in our Sig and/or Avatar that represents us... I don't have time to do more than google for images at this point - maybe some of you artists out there can do something with these: (Just to throw out some ideas consistent with the name)

http://www.save-a-patriot.org/graphics/minuteman.gif
http://www.infowars.com/headline_pho.../minuteman.gif

maybe something similar to these:

(obviously the whole "minute-man" thing has ties to the American Revolution and thus carries some context/meaning here in the states... I don't know if the theme is appealing elsewhere?)

Re: Working on TG-Irregulars Platoon

I like those images. Just have someone edit the Army National Guard to...like...TG Militia? Something like that? Not too good with names.

I feel the same way about the Irregulars, but it's mostly because that makes me think of the movie The Replacements (About non-draft picks being used to replace pro football players). I think it gives the tone that the group is made up of people not good enough to make it into house squads, which of course isn't true.

I mean....I'm in it, that means we're like...the uber pwners of teh gl0be, right?

WhiskeySix I understand what you are saying about the name Irregulars but to me the name mīlitia suggests the same, in your dictionary quote it has constant reference to civillians and i would like to think we are more than that. Your first point is very good but to me the three types you mention would not be "ordinary citizens rather than professional soldiers" but merely soldiers that can't fight as often(or the other types you mention). I also like your Ensignia idea but i would like to suggest a non-nationalist feel to it as the Irregulars(soon to be renamed?) are made up of a mixture of different nationalities, just my opinion of course

lol - for some reason that Disney movie The Incredibles just popped into my head?? We're perfectly super super-heros, but we can only sneak in our superhero adventures when the wife's watching "her show", the kids are in bed, and you don't have a 7am meeting with clients.

America. America. AMERICA!!!!! **** Yeah!

...Do people live anywhere else?

Seriously though, I think that just the symbol of the rifle guy doesn't make it strictly "american". I think everyone can get behind the idea of a group that's not too committed, but ready when necessary. Just because it's American doesn't mean its....American. Does that make any sense?

yeah, good points... That definition doesn't completely describe what Militia means to me...

During the American Revolution (and ALL revolutions, for that matter!!), there wasn't a standing ("professional") Army, as there was no government to organize or fund it. Instead, groups civilians - farmers, bakers, carpenters, etc. - all came together, of their initiative, to create a home-grown fighting force. They did their jobs and lived their lives, but when it was time to fight, they were ready, willing, and able...

That's kinda how I'm percieving the term Militia - and this group...

and about the signia - yeah, that's why I asked: Having lived 29 of my 30 years in the US, I'm aware that I lack the perspective to judge how "nationalistic" they are
