Re: Need a "Motto" for the Irregulars

"Non ego. Adeo laboro."

Roughly translated: I cant, I have to go to work... but seriously i did like the "In unity there is strength, with teamwork we will dominate" suggestion.

Re: Need a "Motto" for the Irregulars

QUOTE=Drizzid]I like that, could we add "with teamwork we dominate". So it would read:

"In unity there is strength,
With teamwork we will dominate"[/quote]

Sounds good to me although did like the funnies smallfatcat.
Do you think we should include the latin, I presume in with the motto, or just leave it as "In unity there is strength, with teamwork we will dominate"?

NICE! HAHAHAH!!! Not sure if you meant it as a joke or not, but I LOVE this one!!

It's great because if you don't know latin, it looks like it means something really serious like "Self-less. Team work"... or something.. which is cool.

But then the "insiders" that understand the light-hearted nature of the group understand that it actually translates to "I can't, I have to go to work"? Genious!!

Get's by vote!! It's nice and short! It's an inspiring yet light-hearted double-entendre! It's perfect!

Re: Need a "Motto" for the Irregulars

Well it was just a bit of a mick taking exercise. I was thinking about the post by sgtdfuller about meaning of things and realised this was the most common phrase i had used since getting here. The translation might be a bit dodgy, it uses a combination of my knowledge of latin (which is ten years old), an online translator and a 1930's Latin dictionary. I did slightly more German than Latin and all i can remember from that is "i am an Englishman/dentist" and "the dentist/Englishman is around the corner". Glad it amused you anyway, i feel like an author who has had a critic find all sorts of hidden meaning in his work.

Edit: Maybe "absum!" Would be more appropriate than "Non ego". Non ego seems to be used to embody some deep philosophical arguments. Absum is a military phrase meaning "i am absent" (as in a roll call). Doesnt have such a good ring to it though.

Thumbs up Re: Need a "Motto" for the Irregulars

It rocks Jimmy! It gets my vote all the way also, cause it captures the fact that we cannot always be there due to that pesky little thing called "reality" and other boring things as "work"! To all but the initiated it just looks like a cool lating saying!

Re: Need a "Motto" for the Irregulars

Cheers mate. I suppose we should leave this open for a while to get some more input and see if any of the other suggestions find favour as well. Unless anyone else has some sager advice I say we dont let this rumble on too long and close it the same day as the name the irregs thread, Friday 7pm CST. Get everything tied off in one day. Might spur a few imaginations as well.

Re: Need a "Motto" for the Irregulars

Hey Jimmy, you think you could put a poll on this between the two we have so far 1st-In unity there is strength......, and the 2nd-I cant, I have to work, and see what type of numbers we get.

If you could, get the votes posted already put into the poll, so they dont have to re-vote. I know we only have a couple of days left, but gotta keep it moving.

Re: Need a "Motto" for the Irregulars

Poll is up. I dont think im able to add votes in at the start. Might lead to double voting. Maybe you could with your admin power but i dont think its worth it. Those who have expressed a preference so far are the more active members who i am sure will not hesitate to go and vote again.
