Re: Interested in Joining the Irregulars?

Hi Chappie. Welcome to TG and the Irregulars.

Im posting part of a PM sgtdfuller got from Wulfyn, the chap who came up with the project idea for the irregs and who has been helping to keep us nudged in the right direction for the good of our members and TG. Theres nothing personal in there so i hope he doesnt mind me putting part of it in public (i edited out the part where you talk about your secret identity mate).

It was thus supposed to be a team where any member of the community could belong, specifically because many don't have time or inclination to be in a dedicated team, but would still like to be in scrims etc.

The closer you make this to being an in-house squad the further you get from it's intended use, and also the more you will alienate people that this is right for. For example by now not allowing any more members to join you have turned this into an exclusive team. Well what about the other guys? Should they make a new team? In the end all we have done is create another squad.
As you can see this is pertinent to the recuitment debate. We capped the numbers to stop ourselves being overloaded but this defeats the purpose of what the Irregs could achieve. That being the case, recruitment is OPEN. All those who wish to fight under the Irreg banner, be they SMs, Non-SMs etc are welcome to join the ranks. As sgtdfuller said it can be "One BIG happy family. A place for all those to call their own."

Re: Interested in Joining the Irregulars?

Hey guys.. good stuff - thanks for keeping up with this!

I thought I'd put in a few thoughts on the matter of elisting with The Irregulars.

1) I agree with Wulfyn that there can't be a fixed size for the roster. Instead, it should be self-limiting, based on what The Irregulars provides. Though everyone is welcome, it isn't for everyone!

2) The |TG| community in general is very welcoming, rewarding, and appreciative of it's population. If you've played on our servers, you know how rewarding the experience is, and how you feel part of the team in every game. Joining the Irregulars is completely unecessary to get high-quality, team-based gaming.

3) The Irregulars, while informal and loosely organized, is a team, and the |TG-Irr| patch does carry some expectations with it. IMHO, you should only join the irregulars if you've experienced the highly rewarding play on TG servers and are ready to commit to something more:
Quote:
  • Non-SM's that are looking for consistent teammates and tactics.
  • SM's looking for consistent teammates and tactics, but that can't make the full time commitment (practices, scrims, etc) required by in-house squads.
  • Experienced SM's contributing TG experience and tactics to thier team-mates.
So, if you commit to The Irregulars, expecting "consistent teammates and tactics", then you need to be ready to be deliver that as well. We all have busy lives that don't allow us to play as much as we'd like - Consistent doesn't refer to time or availability. Consistent means committed and reliable. It means you try your best to get to the Tactical Minicamps. It means if your buddy missed a Minicamp, you teach him what he missed. It means you check this TG-Irr forum as often as you can. It means you try to play frequently, even if you aren't able to.

of course - that's all just my humble opinion

Re: Interested in Joining the Irregulars?

That sounds very reasonable and intelligent. Personally im caught because it would also be nice to be be a place where new folks can come and get "trained up" as well. What you posted is good stuff and should probably be incorporated into the wiki so it isnt lost. Ive already stuck some of your previous bullet points up there so if you want to edit it a bit once or if we have some more feedback go ahead.

Re: Interested in Joining the Irregulars?

yeah - I definitely agree! I don't mean to say it isn't for new folks, because that's not the case at all. Membership doesn't require elite game-skills either. It just requires a commitment! The commitment is a lower priority than all the other responsibilities life piles on us, but it's still a commitment.

A commitment to what? It's expected that you might not play for a week or two at a time, and that's ok. It's not a time commitment. It's a commitment that when you do find time for BF2, that you'll be an active contributing member of The Irregulars. It means when you're on the server, you join or start a TG-Irr squad and employ solid tactics (in addition to solid communications). It means you agree to try to attend the Tactical Minicamps... even if you can't make them. (heh... we can even hold our own minicamps on a schedule that works for us)

Otherwise, what's the point? If you don't want that kind of commitment to a team, that's fine - you'll still have a blast playing with the rest of TG'ers!! (It's also important to be clear about expectations because we don't have a hard cap on our numbers... If we accept anybody that wants to play any style, that defeats the whole point of a seperate squad

(again - just my opinion... not trying to lay down the law here - just thinking out loud.. or typing out loud.. or.. thinking while... something)

Thanks for putting me in the air squad, i just want to make sure you know im preferably a Black hawk/attack chopper pilot. But i can go in jets if needed.

Would i be needed to have my speciaility changed from (Air) to helo on the roster?

It can be changed if you want, the point of the air squad was to be a general dumping ground for those with helo/jet/gunner specialities as we seemed to be a bit low on them. I also put a few snipers and FBMantis in there as well as sniper squads are normally a seperate battlefield entity.

Just to stress again that this is not a hard and fast group. You will be fighting with whoever is around at the time and can make it. The roster is so people can see who is in the irregs and give an idea of our combined skills. If you want to check this thread it has the latest discussion on buddy groups and development of irreg sub groups.

Re: Interested in Joining the Irregulars?

Hi all. I'm TychoCelchuuu; hopefully you've seen me ingame on the TG servers. I'm interesting in joining the Irregulars since I'm not a supporting member but I would like some organized teamplay whenever possible.

BF2 experience: I bought it the day it came out and I've played it a ton since, hehe. You can look up my stats online if you feel like it, but obviously they're kind of off since I've been playing on the TG server for a while and I've gotten much better since those were last updated.

Preferred kits: I am a capable helicopter pilot and gunner and an able sniper. I'm also available to lead squads, or if we really need it, to CO. I also like to play support or medic in addition to sniper. I can also do assault if needed, but usually I stick to sniper, support, or medic when I'm outside a chopper.
