Why did you join the Irregulars?

It was suggested that a thread be started on this so I have. Just trying to collect together peoples motivations for joining the Irregulars and what they hope to get out of it.

I'll go first.
Soon after I found TG I started the noticing the various tags player on the servers were wearing so I started looking into the in-house squads as the idea of playing regularly with the same group of players appealed to me a lot, their concept seemed just what I wanted. After a little more research I found out about the different squads and their access to training and scrims and was hooked by the idea. If I joined one of these squads I thought could learn more from experienced TG players and get involved in developing squad tactics and then using them in scrims. Luckily for me this was at the time when the creation of the Irregulars was first being discussed and I managed to get in on the ground floor.

next please....

Re: Why did you join the Irregulars?

I joined because I loved TG play, but couldnt join an in-house squad because of the time difference and other matters. The Irregulars, I felt, gave me both a squad of guys whom I play with almost everyday, and also the chance to actually mold the Irregulars into what it will be. I like seeing projects like this one go from a single idea in a post to a fully functional community, and that right there is the main reason.

Re: Why did you join the Irregulars?

I was pretty fortunate to join the Irregulars..I had just really started to get into BF2 and stumbled across the Tactical Gamer site. I played on the server a few times and then happened to find the thread concerning the formation of the Irregulars. After reading over the Irregular's info. I thought it would be a great place for me to fit in. I've been having a blast ever since.

As of now, I have spare time to commit to BF2 and a dedicated group of players, that will probably continue until the first week in March when my time will be cut drastically. I coach High School soccer and the spring girl's season begins then. I won't have much time for BF2 then... however I will still hop on the server every now and again...Maybe a late night session after a stressful match...

Until then I hope to be a regular Irregular on the server.

Re: Why did you join the Irregulars?

I came to TG sometime over the summer, after finding the forums in a Google search (can't remember, think it was "Battlefield 2 team work" or something similar). I try to keep my gaming simple, so when BF2 replaced '42 as my main "downtime" activity, I played a ton while the game was fresh. This was before people discovered BH whoring, dolphin diving, n00bt00bing, etc. Heh, my first round ever (day BF2 came out) I scored 153 points by following a guy with an [EA] tag around with a medpack out. Didn't know about ranked servers yet, though... d'oh!

Problem was there was a lack of real squad use. People were shy about VOIP, and commanders were shy to require squads to work together. Over a few months time it became increasingly rare to find a squad that could really function as a unit.

I became a regular at TG before the irregulars started up, but this is the only way I'm going to be able to join an in house squad. This window is up next to my MBA homework, which needs to be done tonight because I want to make tomorrow night's practice. I spent all of last week on a road trip so had forum access, but not game access. That's a regular occurance for me, so for me Non ego, adeo laboro is a way of life.

But I'll add that I only really thought of joining the irregulars after I realized that the first handful of guys who joined were ones that I enjoyed playing with. I've had much less game time of late, so look forward to getting this thing rolling.

Enough talk from me. Must... get.... work done.... then I can play.

Re: Why did you join the Irregulars?

I've been following [TG] allready quit a while and I'm in a similar community called -=[dMw]=-. I know my fair share of tactics and thought I might help the Irregs out and be a bit more involved in [TG] since they know lots of things about objectivebased/teambased playing which for me is the most important gamingstyle.
[TG]Irr seems to be a bit of challenge for me as I do have other stuff going on but I will do my best to help out in anyway I can.

Talking Re: Why did you join the Irregulars?

I joined the irregulars after playing on the Server for a while then checking out the forums. Just like most, i have a busy family/work life and thought "Thats for me" when i started seeing threads about an irregular squad starting up. I signed up and immediately started seeing certain individuals putting in an effort to respond to posts etc, then putting up a roster, pm'in avatars to everyone and generally making an effort and i again thought, i can make time for these guys! I started to play on servers with some of the Irr's and this just confirmed a willingness to stay and commit a little time out of my week to them. *note* I say little as i have a 6month old and a 9 year old*
I was on the edge of my seat and had one of my best games ever when i recently played a game with a squad of Irr's and this for me is another reason i joined. We can compliment each other through teamwork as well as the sharing of ideas.
Peace be to all Irregulars....until the 28th when "Hell Hath No Fury Like An Irregular....with an in-house squad chasing him down the road!" ;o)

Hmm...Must stop smokin in the mornin!

Re: Why did you join the Irregulars?

I joined the Irregulars as a part of my take over the world plan. This is my first step of world dominance. I'll summarize my steps:

1. Join the Irregulars
2. Secret, sly plan
3. Take over the world

Still working on step 2.....

.......

Inhouse squads would be impossible for me because of time zone issues. I work full time during the day and cannot play in the middle of night for obvious reasons. I read the Irregulars to be a "Squad/Company" that would try to be a bit more Eurofriendly timewise. I also wanted to formalize my affiliation to TG more than just being a SM.

Re: Why did you join the Irregulars?

I joined so that I could try and work on playing with the same group of people regularly. There's a limit to one's effectiveness when operating with a squad on a 'pick up' basis because you won't know the guys as well. But I have limited leisure time (especially during the late summer) and can't make the time commitments of some other squads.

Re: Why did you join the Irregulars?

Didnt really "join" the Irregulars. Beacame part of TG and enjoyed the servers alot, but didnt have quite the "team" feel playing with different individuals each time on. So I read about the Irregulars that was originally posted by Wulfyn and figured to try and spearhead it to get it going so that there would be a place for individuals like me, that want that team feel with the same individuals and for those that dont have the time commitment for an in house squad. With some help from ABRA, Wulfyn and Apo, the Irregulars was born. Since the beginning of the Irregulars, I have found myself more and more involved in the forums and gameplay, and enjoy it immensely playing with the same individuals rather than trying to pick a squad that has individuals in it that I have never played with. Involvement in the community was a motivating factor.

Re: Why did you join the Irregulars?

I don't have the time nor the Supporting Membership to join those in-house squaddy things, and I enjoy the laid back atmosphere of the Irregulars either way. It's just a game, and it's nice to play with a group of people who act like it (usually).

Re: Why did you join the Irregulars?

My TG Story:

Quote:
A few months ago, after doing much research on BF2 and reading reviews of it, I decided it would be the first game for by new custom PC. I was bought over by descriptions of intense and realistic squad tactics, but when I started playing, I found no one seeming to want to play in the same team oriented style as I did. Eventyually, I just got board of running around alone and getting picked off, and stopped playing.

A few months later, feeling minor guilt about a purchase of a bad game, I was determined to find like-minded gamers. A little bit of googling, and I came upon the TG website. So, I looked at the server list, booted up BF2, and joined in. I then knew what I was missing.
Basically, i joined the Irr for previously mentioned reasons, and because i'm not an SM (sorry, but i don't have a job yet )

That about sums it up for me too. I haven't got the time or money to join an in-house squad but I like playing with the same group of people consistently. The Ireggulars fit the bill, so I joined.

Re: Why did you join the Irregulars?

I was fell walking on a remote welsh hillside and had stopped for a spot of tea from my thermos when a low flying aircraft passed overhead sucking my clothes and equipment into the engine. It smashed into the hillside in a fireball which blew me off the edge of a cliff. Whilst unconscious my spirit guide came to me in the form of a sheep and declared i must go on a quest.... actually, i just saw Wulfyns original idea and thought it sounded cool.
