Stopping in to say Hi and a quick word about..ArmA

Hey all...Long time no see...

Well,

I'm finally back into gaming after a small respite...hehehe...

I bought the downloadable version of ArmA and I'm really enjoying it. There is a pretty steep learning curve coming from BF2....but it's alot of fun!!!!!

I have no previous real experience with Operation Flashpoint so ArmA is a whole new world...and when I say world I mean world...the "maps" are huge!!!!! Really big playable areas...you have to play it to understand what I'm talking about...

Which brings me to playing it..if you get the game be warned..you need a pretty powerful rig. I have an AMD opteron 144 overclocked to 2.3, 1024 ram, a Geforce 6800GS and onboard sound and I run the game at 1024x768 with some options an normal settings and a couple at low...with normal AF and low AA (those are ingame options btw....)

The game is buggy as well....the only showstopper for some are the flyable vehicles...very difficult to control..and very strange flight models...not sure what is going on there...

But, having said all that....I'm having a great time learning and playing...I'm sure this will be a big game at TG...

later all,

Chappie

Hi back

I might be getting that game. I'll probably wait until the US release.

Cheers!

Greetings. Well done on getting the game, and thanks for the heads up.

Good to see an Irreg representing so soon.

Like Mr. Blonov, I'll most likely get the game some time next year.

Have a good'n.

wait, I am sure you will.

Yeah, I'm holding off at least until the US release. Also I'm not sure how my computer would handle it in any case.

ArmA is the first game I am really excited about in a while. It is to bad that the US won't see it until 2007.

I'm waiting for the US release also. Sounds like I may need to upgrade as well.

Greetz Chappie! I'm planning on picking this one up on the US release as well. This game looks like it has great potential for TG.

Re: Stopping in to say Hi and a quick word about..ArmA

Ok guys,

I have a few more thoughts on the game.. First...after playing it quite a bit more I have to say it's even better than I first thought!!! The game is amazingly deep. It has something for everyone, IMO. If you prefer to make/develop missions the editor is FANTASTIC. Just name it and it can be done. The graphics are very nice, just be sure you have the video card for the job. I'm running a 6800GS and I do have to turn most of the options down to low..it still looks very nice..just not as nice as I know it can!!!!

Last night, Strag, Michael and I had a great Co-op mission!!! hehe We ended up infiltrating a heavily defended town with a few other in our squad hitting them from the front. We went around the back side and snuck our way in, unfortunately came up against insurmountable numbers...LOL All three of us died miserable, bloody deaths!!! Fun, but miserable...

The netcode seems very stable...Thanks goes to Apophis for setting the server up so quickly...very nice indeed.

The only other thing to remember is this is not BF2. Slow, well thought out, well planned movement wins the day here.

I'm looking forward to seeing you guys on the server!!!

Chappie

Re: Stopping in to say Hi and a quick word about..ArmA

I try to keep myself isolated from the world so that I can't be tempted by such things as ArmA, or motor-car transportation, or other new fangled conveniences...

(FYI...Rick is not the only crazy guy in the Irregs )

Cheers,
