Talking Stepping up

Arrrr Ahoy!
Even tho I dislike squad leading, I been stepping to the helm and forming and squad leading a Irr squad when ever I am on the TG sever.
I think more Irr's should view or maybe review againthe wiki.

http://www.tacticalgamer.com/wiki/in...The_Irregulars

Exspecialy the Etiquette paragraph:
"quote"
We will not lock |TG-Irr| squads (ONLY exception is identified Irregulars Squad nights)
We will not kick non |TG-Irr| players from TG-Irr squads (ONLY exception is identified Irregulars Squad nights)
We will make new members in |TG-Irr| squads feel welcome.
Irregular members are required to form Irregular squads in game.
We are Tactical Gamers first, and Irregulars second. We will try and spread this way of playing as much as possible. This is our main goal.
If for any reason you are not able to participate for any length of time please advise one of the Irregular officers or sergeants so that you may be placed in the "on leave" squad.
"unquote"

Note line five {5} [Irregular members are required to form Irregular squads in game.]
Aye Me heartys, if someone like me, who's confused and talks as funny as I do can S L. then thar can too. I might not be the best at S L, but I try.
I usally see Irr's in other squads when I log in. I get alot of new folks when I form an Irr. some stay and some leave as I don't always stay in the heat of the fray. I like to defend. {just as important as attacking}

So me Gentlemen o' fortune, if ye be a true Swashbucklin' Buccanneers. Step up to the helm and form an Irr and S L. or ye may 'ave Black spot place upon ye and be Keelhauled Yarrrrr!

Re: Stepping up

Agreed. Good reminder, Sgt Fetterman. I always am sure we have an Irr squad running when I do play and I don't see one up. If people like you and I can squad lead, indeed anybody can. *smirk*

Re: Stepping up

Thanks for bringing this up, Fett. We should indeed form 'Learn TG", "Yaaarr" and "Irregs" squads often, and everyone needs to try squadleading--really, everyone needs to TRY squadleading.

As far as being required to form an Irr squad, we have not required this for quite some time. This is more of a principle or guideline, not a hard and fast "Thou shalt" kind of rule. What you really shouldn't do is always join up with a TG squad, and I can be guilty of this, just so you know. I tend to feel pretty exhausted after SLing for more than 2 hours.

If you start a squad and 2 or 3 TG members join, ask any additional guys to join another squad or start another so you have room for new players. If you stay at 3 members for a while, send an invite to the people who wanted to get in that you waved off, and let them know you have room after all if they're interested.

Joining a squad with one or no TG members is an excellent opportunity to model the TG way, and let the SL of the squad know what server rules are and how to play the TG way if they are just not playing with the team. Communicate a lot in a silent squad, and other squadmates will start speaking up and giving sitreps and feedback. All it takes is you acting like you belong, knowing how things work around here, and being friendly and open to newcomers who might feel intimidated by an impatient voice speaking tactical-ese.

Let SLs know they need to follow CO orders, but they can also press the V key and tell the CO what they would like to do or request a certain role for the squad. Let them know that even if they don't have voice, if they just put out the occasional order and mark the map, it will give the squad an idea of what they should be doing.

What Thou Shalt Not do is lock your squad on non-Irregular nights, or kick to make room for TG members. When I see or hear of that, you can expect a terse and ominous-sounding PM from yours truly.

Your own development and growth is really in your own hands. We're just here to help keep you on track, not so much to keep you moving on it. Those that really want to become outstanding Irregulars are often obvious as such, and stand a good chance to be recognized!

Re: Stepping up

Heck I've been enjoying the squad leaing I've been doing, although I usaully don't even have to enforce the "kick TGers to make room for others rule" as I hardly have any. Although I always have more fun when I play with non-IHS and TGers as the pubbies know less than I do and don't back talk.

But yeah, I do have a question, do I specifically have to name my squads "Irreg" or "Yarrr!" (I thought this was Maj. Wood's reserved squad?)?

And for those curious, a "BOAFFT" squad is generally one of mine.

MajorWood definitely started the YAAAAARRR! squad, and it is credit to him and the Irregs that they are recognized and desirable to join! Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, sez I.

I think it's a good idea to sometimes make a specific "Learn TG" squad (I name mine Tao of TG when I'm in the teaching mood) just to let people know that, hey, this squad is going to move a bit more slowly, be a bit more conversational about what we're doing and why, and is a good place to learn and aske questions.

If that's not how you are running the squad, other names are fine, but we should all try to squad-lead occasionally, and lead a learner's squad at least one out of three times. You may be surprised at who hops in to learn or help teach with you!

Good questions, and thanks for letting us know you squad-lead often, this is the example we need to encourage others to follow suit!

Re: Stepping up

I aways named my squads after us. "Irr" woodie has the Yarrr and most everybody knows if the squad says Yarr! it's lead by the major and everyone is in for a grand time.
Like I mentioned, I defend and before I had to stop playing, a couple newbie non TGers always joined on me and we usally made things unpleasant for the attackers.
