server crashes
Seems like everytime I join in on Tac-Mod nights there's a chance that the server will crash at least once during the evening. Are the causes of these identifiable? Are there logs that are created by the server that can help lead us to these causes?

Re: server crashes
To add to this: lately (read: last Sunday) there have been times where players simply get dropped from the server, possibly with a CTD.

Re: server crashes
Yep, I had this happen Sunday and thought it might just be me. No server disconnect message, etc., just one minute I'm playing the next minute I'm staring at my dekstop.

Re: server crashes
I believe this is "normal" BF2 server behavior. Some nights everything runs perfectly smooth, on others the server or clients crash. We see the exact same behavior with vanilla. I don't think there's anything we can do about it.

Re: server crashes
I've actually never had this happen with Vanilla, only TacMod. Not sure if the mod is compounding a problem that's already there for most users or whatnot.

Re: server crashes
I've seen it happen with vanilla but not near the frequency. I don't have data to back my claim other than I've played many times more hours of vanilla than TacMod but would guess it's happened during TacMod more times.

Re: server crashes
It does seem like tacmod crashes more than vanilla. We're almost guaranteed one crash every tacmod night, but vanilla can go a few days before dieing.
The logs that our admin console gives us are pretty lacking. The latest version that just came out a couple weeks ago at least tells you what map the server died on, but nothing much else. Before that, we'd just see a few messages saying that the server was starting up.Battlefield Admin(BF2 Rules) (BF2142 Rules)

Re: server crashes
The last couple of times I've played Atom on tacmod, it's crashed at least once. I've played the the past couple weeks and that's the map that seems to consistently crash on tacmod.

Re: server crashes
Aside from server crashes that are expected during tacmod, there are also a lot of CTDs that never happen during vanilla. Its not a horrible problem since we can still ge tup to 31 vs 31, but it does tend to hurt server population quite a bit whenever it happens.

Re: server crashes
I have only heard of the CTDs since we moved to the new server. For the 1.0 release, were CTDs common prior to the new server?

Hmm, memory aint too great but i cant say that i recall CTDs on the previous servers in tacmod. Others may be able to give a better answer.

I don't remember any... especially to the degree that they have happened the past two nights. I believe about 1/3 of the server CTD'd in both of these instances.

Yeah, I can't remember any either Asch. I remember lag but not crashes.

Re: server crashes
There's an important point too; it's not just a person here and there CTDing once in a while, it seems to be a chunk of the server going all at the same time.
