Would you like to see night maps in the Tactical Mod?

We may have the capabilities to put night maps into the Tactical Mod and we wanted to get everyone's opinion on the topic. Think of playing TG Tac Mod style with night maps. Players would have use of night vision goggles (NVGs). I know some people didn't care for the SF night maps with artillery, etc. raining down. I believe it will be quite different playing tac mod style, however.

So let us know what you think by responding to the poll and providing any feedback in this thread.

But will people without SF expansion be able to use the night vision?

Yes. This is unrelated to SF.

I would like to see some night maps or any new maps for Tac. If we can use night vision could we also use the grappling hook?

So you're talkin night maps like SF and not nightmaps like the BF2 Nights minimod that came out last fall?

It's not the arty and junk that gets to me in SF, it's that I can't see a damn thing. Yea, yea, that's how it's supposed to be being that it's night and all, but I just don't like em.

We wouldn't be pulling things from SF to do this... so there would not be grappling hooks.

I haven't tried BF2 Nights... but it would be more along those lines.

Ahh, ok. I liked the ambiance of the night maps I played in BF2 nights.

Re: Would you like to see night maps in the Tactical Mod?

I voted "no opinion" but that is more because i look at map quality over ambient effects and not due to a general malaise on the subject. I dont object to night maps and they may add some nice variation to the line up.

Re: Would you like to see night maps in the Tactical Mod?

No. Granted, I haven't played SF so I have no experiece with night maps, but I don't think the standard conquest style game would work well in the dark. I think battling over control points in a reduced-light evironment would make it difficult to apply sound tactics. In my limited personal experience large-scale night engagements are rare. Night time is better suited to SF type missions.

That being said, if we could incorporate different game types (extraction, asset destruction, CO "elimination") and limit each side to a max of two squads I think it would be a lot of fun.

Re: Would you like to see night maps in the Tactical Mod?

Personally, I find night maps a tad disconcerting. Countless hours of BF2 have taught me that whoever sees the enemy first will normally win any encounter (speaking very generally). On night-time maps, you can stand almost directly in front of an opponent and not be noticed - it takes some getting used to.

Are you referring to SF night maps? Take a look at the screenshots from the BF2 Nights mod. The night maps would most likely be similar to that. It would be dark and seeing in the distance would be difficult... but for the most part, what's close around you is fairly visible.
