Re: Sniper role....
Alrighty then....back on topic.
I've been playing more and more as Sniper and I can say it is an intriguing role.
Can you hit people? Yes. At long range it is a crap shoot for killing someone in less than 3 shots. Up close it takes either 1 in the head or two in the chest. Snipers should NOT be trying to cap flags. Your job is to relay info. Not be the commando, kill everything machine the movies make snipers out to be.
I think the sniper should be used more as a scout. Sure, if you sneak into the town near the crane there are some great hiding places to spot from which can be easily defended using claymores. Also at that range the M24 is brutal.
On the flipside the MEC sniper can scout down the river, along the beachhead, etc. All while relaying pertanent information to the squad leader and/or commander.
Also, I believe there should be a recon squad that has snipers posted throughout the map, relaying information to the SL who then in turn relays it to the commander. I just wish there were binoculars in the kit.

It is and has been since the dawn of 3D gaming.

Re: Sniper role....
Not Completely True... I have captured many flags with the help of my handy claymores. Such As on the 64 map (in the demo) the right most flag if u run into the bunker (if you can call it that) and stick clay mores on each side of the anti air missile u can catch up to 4 ppl at 1s while capturing the flag from inside the bunker. then all i do is nade spam and pop all who come in. Also the SVD can be just as good as m24 at far range it just takes a lil longer

Re: Sniper role....
I liked the idea that we tried out last night, a squad of Snipers. Very effective, especially when working in teams. Maybe we need a medic, though, and a commander that knows that we are all snipers, not engineers.

Re: Sniper role....
A team of 4 snipers an anti tank and a medic is a pretty tough squad to beat defending a flag. At least on Oman - i dont know the rest of the maps till about 5pm heh.

Re: Sniper role....
i agree the sniper should be used as a recon tool..i usually join a squad of assults/special forces and just follow them around. i can spot dangers and they take them out. also having a commandor that knows how to use them effectivly is great too...

Re: Sniper role....
Yea, it worked well. A medic would have been a big help. About switching to engineers, well, the commander needed those guns. Oh well. It worked well though. I really enjoyed calling out targets on that building near the crane. I lost count of how many people we shot. LOL!

Re: Sniper role....
Had a lot of fun in that Sniper squad last night just before I had to quit. Was great just doing recon and holding off the 2-3 man squads. Didn't get a chance to use the claymores, but definitely looking forward to trying those out in the next couple of days. I think my niche is still definitely the support class though. And I don't see many of those around...

Re: Sniper role....
And I want to thank you guys as well for helping me be one of the top scorers that round on the MEC side. Sitting out there for me to shoot was real nice of ya =)

You gave as good as you got buddy, so don't feel too bad. If it wasn't for that fact that the SL was on the rooftop with me, I wouldn't have had a shot.

Re: Sniper role....
Yeah, that was an incredible little war going on out there. I died alot....LOL. The flipside to that was what JBRanger noticed. It was our flag. It just kept respawning me right in the building. Eventually I wised up and got the hell out of there, but I spent a good deal of time in there.
One of the things I highly recommend, and I am sure this applies generally to many situations, but for a sniper going up against multiple enemy snipers. Stick and Move. I stayed in the same place too long, and got owned far too much. Eventually, it got through my thick skull, and I began to shoot, take out a target, and change position. You guys had like 4 snipers out there, and I was only getting 1:1 kill/death ratios for a while, cause I would take out one and another would get me. I improved that a bit just by changing my position in the building itself. I still got killed alot...hehe....but it was incredibly fun.
