Re: Soldier class?
The 203 rounds are certainly horrible for killing infantry. The blast radius seems to be about as big as a trash can lid! You have to drop the round right at the enemy's feet to kill em.
Case in point, I ran into Tarpan and 2 of his cronies inside the big walled area a couple nights ago and they didn't see me. So I whipped out the 203 and sent a nade over to try and take all of em out with a single shot. It ended up landing pretty darn close but not one of them was killed. I shot 2 more that landed close enough (IMHO) and still none of them dropped. I would have been better off using bullets! Maybe I'm just too used to America's Army where the 203 is extremely deadly. |

Re: Soldier class?
I've been focusing on support and assault, since I'm a big fan of conventional squad combat and those are the two elements. But, I've found that support is much weaker than I'd expect. The SAW doesn't seem to have as much range or power as I'd expect, and its accuracy is terrible (even with short bursts). Also, suppressing fire just doesn't work that well in this game: either people aren't afraid of getting shot, or they don't realize they're being shot at. Assault is an underrated class, I think: as mentioned, the mobility and armour (contradiction?) is good, and the range of weapons is excellent. I've found the M16/AK to be both powerful and reasonably accurate. The real trick, I think, is going to be to become proficient with the grenade launcher, and learning to use smoke effectively.

Re: Soldier class?
I agree that the support class is very underpowered weapon-wise. I've played it several times in situations that I thought it would be ideal, and it turned out to be basically worthless aside from the ammo bag.
The accuracy of the main weapon is shameful; it makes an AK on full auto look precise. I haven't killed a single person with the support gun, either on burst or auto. I've even unloaded on a cluster of enemies just a few yards away from me, and not once did the X show in my crosshairs to tell me that I hit someone. And, as Keith said, no one is afraid of it, so suppressing fire is a joke. A real shame. ![]() |

Re: Soldier class?
Yea, your best bet for laying suppressive fire is from the jeep/dune buggie. The mg's mounted on it are HIGHLY ACCURATE! Just shoot in bursts or the barrel becomes hot. Also, it is fast to avoid problem areas.

Re: Soldier class?
I love the support class only problem is that the gun is really inaccurate. Its ok though since you have an ammo bag and can spray and pray. Just stay prone and use the iron sights and just hold down the trigger it works wonders.

Re: Soldier class?
The SAW isn't the right weapon for a medium-long range firefight out in the open where you're gonna run into enemies with assault rifles.
As someone pointed out it's not even very good at suppression because most people know they can take a few hits from infantry weapons anyway so they usually opt to just shoot back rather than seek cover. The SAW just doesn't get the same respect as the mounted machine guns, which absolutely tear through infantry. OTOH, the SAW *can* be highly effective if used under certain conditions like shorter range firefights in areas with lots of cover and ambush points. For example, I've had a bit of success with the SAW in the ruined village where I'll set up an ambush in the alleys and along broken walls and wait for bad guys to come around corners. I've noticed that it seems to get more respect as a suppression weapon in these close quarters battles as well. I think the SAW is going to shine in tight urban areas where the faster rate of fire and 200 rounds of ammo is going to make a big difference. Oh, and don't forget the smoke grenade! Toss it at the enemy and open fire...that'll keep em suppressed. ![]() |

This isn't right. You cannot sprint and fire at the same time. In addition, standing with the SAW ensures you will miss. Go prone and let the tracer fire show your squad where to shoot. Also, could you proof read before you post?

Re: Soldier class?
I used to go exclusively Assault, but I found that Support was more my style after a while. Just depends. With Assault, I have no problems running in and sweeping out the enemy with a combination of rilfe and grenade usage. With Support I generally try to hunker down someplace protected and keep them pinned with my MG. Just different roles.
Don't underestimate the power of Assault's smoke by the way... it can be extremely effective.

Re: Soldier class?
I suppose it's a bit late for recommending things to be added to the final version, but it would be great if the support could spend 5 seconds or so "attaching" their LMG to a position, be it the top of a low wall or whatever else could be used for securing it. Then once attached it would act more like the fixed weapons throughout levels as far as the accuracy. I think this would provide a nice semi-mobile support turret.
Mod anyone? =P

Re: Soldier class?
Sorry for dragging up an old topic, but I think the support class has been undervalued at TG.
While the weapons are not the most accurate, they really don't need to be for the purpose they have in the game. I have played once online just last week and I believe I was strictly a support class player the entire time I was playing. I never really had a problem adjusting to the gameplay with the weapons I had available. For example, there was one time when myself and 2 other squad members were firing into a flag point from a hillside. It wasn't very difficult to take out the enemy from our advantage point. All I did the entire time was to fire short bursts at each enemy position. Unfortunately, I ended up drawing the most fire but because I was proned and using the ground as cover, I think I only took 2 bars of damage facing up against several enemies. Did I end up with the most kills? Not even close. Did I feel that my choice of class helped my squad and team? Hell yeah. Of course, the best part of supporting my team was going to the mobile AA that was guarding the bridge and refilling his ammo each time he called for it...but that is just another advantage of the support class ![]() |

Re: Soldier class?
of course the support can be used as an affective troop to draw fire in order to get other guys to flank, while suppressive fire rarley works with small arms fire, it does indeed work well with apc rounds or a tank, but a support is far more effective giving ammo and drawing enemy attension than killing guys imo, support can be very powerful in the right hands, play with bubba and take notes
