I myself get on the South of the flag and and when I have at least 3 people who dies and respawns back on me I move in from the South which is completely left open due to my first wave as a distraction. Awesome flaking technique. I used it a couple of times when I was the only squad attacking a defended base.

May be I should not have shared that.... Shoot.
I'll add to this.

B's doing a great job as an SL by voicing everything, from enemies to next points, always with a precise direction. You never wonder where he is or where you're supposed to go. Result: we were crawling through the map like a 5-legged spider, and very often, thanks to the flanking / spawn technique above, I'd find enemies back.

Great job, B.

Cheers

Re: Advanced SL Guide.

after many a failed base assault attempt i have come to an obvious conclusion... you can't just have people spawn on you and stream in, and even waves don't always work. the fact is an enemy probably knows where you are and knows where to defend. in most assaults an armored unit of any kind will turn the tides. rolling in with an apc or AAA or even a tank will not only take ALL of an enemies attention away from anything fleshy and weak to fire, but it will also lure out the AT's and the like

now granted if this is a squad that has been hitting armor over and over and over this won't work, but on the wetlands a few days ago, it just hit me. sure flanks are nice, but your literally fighting into a compound with only 2-3 entrances.

anyway, sorry for actually saying this. again, im kinda slow

Re: Advanced SL Guide.

Lots of valuable info posted here! Here are some of the tips I am willing to share.

You definately gotta take care if your squadies and you gotta stay alive!

- Try to anticipate what objectives you want to accomplish and arrainge a supply drop in a discrete loc near each one. Do this well BEFORE you ever get there or u put the team at risk. Move your men to these drops and STAGE for assault! This means staying low and not making a sound, it might even mean ignoring a juicy target that rolls by...dont give up the element of suprise...if your men are using the squalk box and spotting troops or requesting medics....the enemy might hear them and force you to attack early. Once you all your men have spawned or arrived at your staging area....use the commander screen to launch the attack and stay alive no matter what....if the attack fails they can just respawn to you and do over till you accomplish your objective. Once this is done use the SL screen to instruct them to defend the position and mine the snot out of it before leaving.

- Don't change up the plan too much, if you are committed to attacking a point and some noobe commander orders you to attack something on the other side of the map...you might want to ignore that order especially if there are other squads closer to his target. Sometimes commanders issue "blanket orders" to all squads so request new ones if they are unrealistic but finish your task then move on ASAP!

- Seek revenge!!! If you and your squad keep getting bombed by jets, they will be thirsty for some pay back so take em on a lil mission to disrupt enemy air...they will be more than willing. Remember one thing though, dont camp uncapturable airbases...maybe mine runways or use c4 but get in and get out or capture and defend but camping ememy home bases or carriers is weak and usually does more harm than good. When people camp my home base.....I usually retaliate 10 fold so careful what you start.

Those are just a few....hey, I can't give out all my secrets

Re: Advanced SL Guide.

1) Don't try the spawn and wave scenario, it doesn't work, period.

2) Have a plan. Too many times my squadleader decides to attack a base and just rushes in to it head on, without even a second of thought.
-You should be planning what direction you will be attacking from. (This is the least you can do, and probably the most important).
-What approach route you will take.
-What your squadmembers should do on arrival.

3) When attacking a base make use of uav and artillery (and airstrikes if available).

4) Order a medic to stay with you at all times.

You said so many wrong things.

1) The enemy can't hear your radio chatter.
2) Against TG rules. You might want to confirm it with the CO, or request to finish the current orders
3) Against TG rules to mine the runways (or anywhere else in the UCB)
4) Thank goodness. Pls keep 'em to yourself until you've read more of the forum.

Re: Advanced SL Guide.

The enemy can actually hear what you say over the radio. They don't hear it as a radio transmission though. If the enemy is close enough to you and you use the radio then they will hear what you say. (to them it will just sound like you are shouting).

Re: Advanced SL Guide.

i hate to say this but when im a squad leader i always find myself not following orders on a whim. and sometimes requesting for permission for something ive already done haha. this only happens when i think the commander is incompident. especailly if im using a rapid squad in a buggy. sometimes i can go out and capture 2 other bases with my squad because i know they are empty before getting new orders or an ok from the CO.

obviously i dont recommand this at all, because i notice less and less uncappable COs. also with my parents home now, i dont use the VOIP as much or at all during the day, so i havent been a SL lately.

Re: Advanced SL Guide.

A couple things I didn't really see in your guide that serve me well:

A: Make sure that if you are serving as a spawn point that your guys you have assigned to attack a point move away from you first before they "go green". Otherwise they are just giving away your hiding place.

B: Make sure that if you play a medic as SL that everyone else knows they can switch to your kit and get you back up. I like to keep either a sniper or an assault partner back with me at my position. So that if I go down they can get me back up fast, and if they go down I can get em back up as well.

C: When crossing wide distances set up a bounding overwatch. That is, move folks forward toward cover in twos or threes while someone else watches thier approach and covers them. Then have them cover the approach for the guys that are trailing... repeat until objective is reached. Also assign someone to watch your six, as a single guy coming up behind you can wreck your day.

D: Give specific overwatches on defense. This is really important as the tendency is for people to want to get into action as quick as possible. But on defense it is really important that you identify important strategic ingress points and have someone watching them.

Great guide. Some of the stuff I mentioned is probably mentioned in the previous pages but I didn't have enough time to read it unfortunately.

hmm.. it works, which is important. Great.

But, uhm, I feel uncomfortable with the idea of 'planning' to lose squad members. I know it's not real-life and we all respawn, but in my mind (and perhaps its a mindset to get away from) i would never generally consider a tactic that relies on loosing squad members.

and if they manage to capture the flag without dying, all well and good, but then perhaps you could have been more effective elsewhere?

IANASL tho', so am well prepared to be wrong ;P

A bit of clarification: the enemy can hear your comm rose chatter, not your actual radio. Most of the comm rose choices are actual shouts and not something that goes over the radio, which is why enemies can hear it.
