Ranks are useless. I've played First Person Shooters since Alien Breed 3D for the Amiga (well over 10 years ago). Does this mean I'm more of a noob than some guy who's only ever played 100 hours of Battlefield in his life?

You learn FPS skills and take them to whatever games you play. The best players (imo) are those with no/low points as they tend to make better team players. Useually you'll find that the stat whores are rambo's, interested only in themselves and using others only to increase their score.

I've played ranked servers, if I'm not playing my usual servers or other excluseive team-work orietated servers then I do it just so that I can get shiny medals and things. I find it easier than getting on something like TG for 10-15 minutes and getting my groove going then having to leave. But seriously-I'm still a private and I've been playing since a few days after release. Of course...I don't play anywhere near 20 hours a week. I have 2 jobs and go to school full time. I wish I could, but I can't.

I still think we shouldn't judge rankers as all being stat whores and such. Some play for the unlocks and some for the medals just for fun. Every now and then I'll jump on a decent ranked server to see what's going on when the TG server is empty. I'm usually disappointed, but sometimes surprised.

Also, regular high scorers are not always Rambos either. Some are just genuinely great players. I have had many regular high scorers on my squad and found some of them to be equally great team players. They are just better with their gameplay and tactics. They put themselves into the right situation to execute more kills / revives / caps.

Now that I have my medic unlock, I won't be quite so "rankedrankedranked" about it, but it's still fun to get that little drum riff telling you you've been promoted or got a medal/ribbon/whatever. It's the same thing that keeps RPGs fun for me, except it's not grindy, because I don't care enough to shoot for Sgt.

But the medic unlock is pretty damn sweet, I tell ya what.

Thank you for those who did reply to my question. I play ranked games because I want to earn the unlocks to increase the opportunities locked within the game. I like to have the option to put a bullet in the eyes of a pilot vs a non-ranked server. Those shiny metals and fancy fanfare promotions are also nice too.

Everything else is just regular play.

I think the answer to my question is that most of us should be at Lance Corporal heading to Corporal. Those who are any higher should be observed carefully... they either are really good, really suck, or can't be trusted. Just my two cents plus tax where applicable.

Yeah man I feel you, it does seem like a long ways till u get to Cpl. Im right there with you, started playin BF2 about the same time, here is what I got.
