Re: New CO role in Tactical Mod version

As far as I can tell, the new CO idea was not tried last night.

Well said, it's very interesting and gives the CO position a truly unique feeling, or at least it did for me. I hope that others will start to look on the CO position with such tact, to play TacMod without a CO and proper coordination between squads is almost blasphemous imo.

    b) make those assets worth taking out! I don't know if we can mod the capacities of the supply crate, but I'd be in favor of an ammo crate as SIMPLY A FRIGGING AMMO CRATE! No more repair of assets, vehicles, health and the like. If we can't agree that far, make the ammo crate simply one of health and ammo-no repair. If that's not possible, tie # of commit-able ammo crates to squad elements-if 5 squads as a norm, no more than 5 ammo crates are allowed in a round for deployment.

I'm in favour of these for sure. Those supply crates are crazy things, and 1 arty shot would be an interesting element.

    It is the rule in war, if ten times the enemy's strength, surround them; if five times, attack them;
if double, engage them; if equal, be able to divide them; if fewer, be able to evade them; if weaker, be able to avoid them.

Re: New CO role in Tactical Mod version

Tarpan, I tried the new CO as PL role for about 15 mins that night, but I spent some time trying to explain what the role of the CO support squad was (and oakenfol was a great guy to try and understand it and put it in place without having read about it before or anything) and the rest of the time trying to coordinate meeting up with the squad and we seemed to take turns dying and not really get to meet up. Things I learned from the experience:

    1. A frontline roll for the PL is only feasible if he can be in constant communication with his "support squad" SL (or even the whole squad!) via TS. Having to wait until you respawn to be able to talk to the squads was a huge inconvenience and made coordination nearly impossible.

    2. In order to give the PL thing a fair trial, there needs to be a way to have someone, or a few people volunteer IN ADVANCE who are familiar with the roles of the PL and the support squad and are willing to hook up on TS a few minutes before the round starts to get settled.

    3. The PL definitely loses some ability to respond quickly to other SLs and provide instant intel when he is in the middle of a firefight, or even in the middle of driving from one place to another and has to stop, find cover, pull out the CO screen, and then do whatever he was asked to do. That delay may negate the advantage of putting the CO on the front lines as an active combatant. Also, the PL isn't able to constantly monitor enemy movement like he can when he is watching the screen the entire time.

Conclusion: Having a PL is probably NOT as advantageous as having a dedicated CO, but is probably more enticing to draw people to the CO role in Tac Mod play.

I'd really like to try it one more time next Tuesday if I can get someone to volunteer to be the support squad SL on TS and give it one more solid try just to see if it really won't work.

    Kisses!

This sounds quite interesting. I know for me, as has already been stated, that interactivity between CO and squads is of the push button type. They are truly pawns on a chess board. I find a nice comfy spot and pull up the CO screen and that is it for the entire game. Now, I have to say I mightily enjoy dropping arty on squads coordinating an attack. Predicting where they will be and placing the shot there feels almost like cheating, although it is fun!

I too am quite tired of the massive civil war type fights. I think that's why I like Zatar. It allows you to be sneaky if you want and approach an objective from the rear or cutoff resupply lines by way of taking out bridges, or laying mines for unsuspecting vehicles.

But back to the CO thing, it sounds extremely interesting and I'd be willing to be a bodyguard if needed.

    In the pursuit of... something.

Well, I volunteered in the forums, but only a few hours before the matches. I popped onto TS but it didn't seem like you were there, and once the games started I muted TS to cut down the chatter. Guess we'll chalk this up to miscommunication.

If we try this again this Sunday and you need a SL, just let me know (of course, getting on the same team will prove interesting). If not, I really want to run/join a tiny recon squad; I'm slowly tiring of the standard infantry squad role.
