Re: The Age of the Recon Squad Part I.

Yeah, those were just for illustrative purposes. I'm not saying that that's the actual ratio or whatever. What sort of ranges are you thinking of? The sort of ranges that I feel I can engage at without fear of return fire, with the M24, in vanilla, are about 150-350m. But in Tacmod, there's no way you can hit anything reliably at the upper end of that spectrum. Even at the lower end, headshots on non-moving targets are hard to get. That is, you can have your crosshairs perfectly on target for the headshot and half the time it won't kill the guy. A kill feels more like luck than skill. At ranges less than that, you can be engaged by opposition assault rifles. With the semi-auto sniper rifles, you need to be closer than the M24. What I'm saying is that with the current accuracy of sniper rifles, it's just not feasible to engage out of range of opposition assault rifles.

Does the increased scope power increase accuracy? If not, I don't understand how increased scope power is supposed to help. Yes, you can see further, but if the accuracy is not there's no point to wasting bullets and giving away your position.

I think so. The better your aim is (centered on target), the less likely it is that deviation will throw the bullet off target.

But supposing that your aim is centered in either case, is the deviation greater when you have less scope power? I think most of the people who play sniper regularly are just fine centering on their target with vanilla scope power.

I didn't even notice that the scope power in TM had been increased. DOH!

Scope power isnt helping me. The accuracy is still the same, so if you are 200 meters away it doesnt matter if you can see your target more clearly. Its still going to have the same deviation, and in vanilla scope mode i can still line up on my target just as easily.

I would think that the deviation would matter with scope magnification.

Using this Very Very crude diagram I labored for hours on; I would think that in the first picture 1 pixel would cover much less distance than the second picture.

When I play sniper, and this is with the M24, I always spot right after the first shot. "Mouse1" *darn, I missed* "Q, Mouse1" and by then I have reloaded.
