The Radeon 9800Pro is a great card. I built my machine 2 years ago and thank God for custom builds, they stay fast for so long. My Radeon 9800Pro works GREAT on BF2, I can run things better than my friend with a 9600XT so I definatelly recommend the 9800Pro. IMO the best AGP8x card ever made. Love the 9800Pro!

Supposedly the sapphire brand is pretty cheap though.

I had the ATI 9800 pro when BF2 released. It runs the game just fine. I did upgrade to ATI800xl because I'm a gfx whore. My 9800 is still sitting here...wana buy it?

In that price range there are several 6600GT's and a few vanilla 6800's.

You'll have to run on mostly low settings with the 9600XT I would bet. The 9800 Pro is the better choice if you want to spend a little extra.

I had an Sapphire Atlantis 9800 pro only a month ago and it worked pretty good, most on high/medium with lighting low and shaders off will get you 40fps

Nope, it just doesn't look fancy. You sort of get an advantage because you see people trying to hide in shadows you can't see.

    Re: video card...

A few considerations if you're upgrading your machine for video games:

    - How much RAM do you have?
    - What motherboard do you currently have?
    - What is you power supply?
