I've found a "fix" for this. When joining a server or during a map change, never hit the "Join Game" button. Instead, check off "Auto Ready" and allow it to join the game for you (i think it takes like 10 seconds). If you do this, it tends not to lock up. I have no clue why this would fix it and I was a bit skepticle at first, but it really does work.
