Re: Highway Tampa
Sidi is a bad as it can get - only one gunship to grab that can totally rule the air. If you have multiple Gunships they keep themself busy in the air rather than purely herrasing ground targets. Tempa has lots of Walkers and AAs and is due to its flat landscape very SAWW friendly.

Re: Highway Tampa
If they wanted to do an air battle, they should have just spawned 10 per side, and had air flags. It kind of worries me that 6 gunships in the air will make getting anything done on the ground more or less useless as everyone lines up to fly.

Re: Highway Tampa
Ehh, I'll stick to ground-pounding. All that (your comment) means is that there's a better chance of me snagging a walker and going off on a nice run of devastation and destruction.
I'm inclined to think that a good commander and team layout will be able to make good use of that setup - tasking a gunship to CAP, the other two to CAS, and having a dedicated tank or walker squad. Oooh... I'm going to definitely have to hit that map tonight.
Hey, you guys have fun flying... I'll be more than happy to shoot one or more of you out of the air...
...with my tank.

Re: Highway Tampa
The Tampa map does seem to lend more to the mobile infantry assault. A couple of squads working together using an APC to move the infantry and a couple of tanks and a walker for support could be devastating.

Re: Highway Tampa
I remember a couple of nights ago I jumped on and Tampa had just started ticking - I saw that the squads were in a sorry state (it was very late at night) so I decided to create my usual "NUTTY" squad and head in.
By the time I had got my engineer kit together and thrown on my Raybans and hit the deck another 3 players had joined my squad (my appologies but with my memory - names disappear faster than a fart in the breeze).
I told everyone to spawn on me and grab a tank at main base and to my supprise - they all DID !!!
So there we are, four tanks all in formation cruzing down the highway, "Roller coaster of love" blairing from the tapedeck and looking to pick a fight when two tanks are spotted off in the distance rolling towards Gas Station. We were in a loose "V" formation and leading from the back I ordered the lads to engage the enemy while I buzzed around the flag for a cap.
Well no longer had they peeled away when an enemy walker goes and goose-steps right in front of me from the complex. Now with my three tanks wizzing by I could imagine the look of glee on his face as he thought of slamming a few rockets up their tail pipes and skipping away, giggling like a schoolgirl at the prom.
However in his haste ambush my squaddies he forgot one tiny obsticle ..... modest little ME !!!
A fact that was not lost on his gunner however who frantically started to spray peanuts at me. A solid round spank to the back of the head got his attention as I called the order for one of my boys to pull back and assist. It was at this point that a dizzying duel took place as the walker moved out into more open ground and I began to circle-strafe his dented metal butt.
I must have already done a good 360 on him and laid a couple of head-shakers in his hide before my reinforcements finally arrived at which point the three of us were now locked in a dangerous barn dance of death !!!
I can still vividly remember the near misses, shells going wild, rockets wizzing everywhere and peanuts chiming off my paintjob but after what seemed like an age the two of us had finally reduced the metal Dodo to a pile of smoking debris.
So with our victory firmly under our belts and hearty praise and congradulations flying over VOIP like foreplay in a brothel we rejoined the squad and promptly got nailed by a squad of engineers with too much time on their hands !!!
But to cut the story short - I think Highway Tampa is and will be a wonderful addition to the TG servers and has forever placed enemy engineers on my list of things that would make wonderful greesy smears of red on the canvas of sand before me

Re: Highway Tampa
This map has some of the greatest terrain I’ve seen on a map yet. This morning I was flying a gunship squad and had just finished a strafing run when the three walkers all shot there anti air turrets at me and brought me down to like 5 hp in the ship. Well we had just flown over the far west flag when I brought the ship down low and slow and told my member to jump. After ground pounding it to the hills we hid in the rocky area there and watched as two tanks and three walkers were leaving that area of the flag. I told him lets see if we can get there attention. We both open up with pilums and hit one of the tanks pretty bad. Well they both opened up but as our armor skins blended in nicely with the terrain they had no idea where we were. We kept at it and noticed that one of the tanks had left the area and next thing we know its flying over us looking for us but not seeing us. So we showed him were we were as his tail was facing us. We both fired and in a bright flash the tank exploded. The other tank decided to go some were else and they sent out squads to find us. By this time my squad member had died once and I was down to 2 pilum shots left. In the end we killed 2 or 3 of the infantry before they killed us.

Re: Highway Tampa
This armor whoring map makes Sidi look like child's play. It pretty much leaves assault holding their nuts (not the 8th kind.) While I detest armor, (in addition to easy mode explosives, rockets and easy-easy-mode Vosses), I did enjoy the fact that it gave the stock engineer weapon more room to breathe. There was actually enough range for max-range missile shots, and they were fun to do. (That tiny tiny tank far off in the horizon did get nailed by my rockets, heh.) For once, it was nice not seeing every single engineer with a Pilum, there was actually some variety.
