Played this map the first time, and I have to take my hat off to the devs...they came up with another map with limitless possibilities for fighting. I think that the Battlefield series have the best designers of multiplayer maps out there.

I have to say, that, while I initially wasn't a fan of Tampa, I've come to LOVE it. I always get excited when it comes up. The map is absolutely teaching me how to play as an engineer and how to play armor, or, more correctly, how not to play armor. I've found myself waiting not for tanks or walkers or gunships but for FAVs to spawn. Hopping in FAV's and zooming around behind tanks to shoot Pilums up their rear is just about the most fun thing evarz. Before Tampa, I never particularly enjoyed engies or vehicles. Now I love both!

Have you ever heard the term, "Buggy Doom!" Its also fun to zoom around the tanks dropping mines in their path.

You know, I never thought of this before. A driver (let's call him "Jeeves", probably a support guy) with an engineer in the rear seat (not the gun seat) with a Pilum or the stock missiles would be pretty nasty zipping around. All the driver has to do is point the ass of the buggy at tanks, where the engineer can take a clear shot without even getting out. Plus, they can do drive-by minings as mentioned before, again without the engineer getting out. Ooh me likey!

Here's one more surprise about this map. I thought assault and recon sniper would be pretty useless here, but turns out snipers are damn useful as part of an armor assault, taking out entrenched enemy engineers and nailing motion mines/emp mines. I'm still trying to figure out where an assault would be useful here though. Any ideas?

    Re: Highway Tampa

I found out very quickly that one gunship cannot take on 3 tanks and a walker head-on. It ended badly.

I also found out my comp doesn't like that map. I crashed to desktop once and blue screen of death once. It's the first time that's ever happened playing 2142. Something to do with the video card, i'll get it figured out.

Fun map though. Looking forward to more in the future!

This is harder to do than it sounds. The Pilum is a cranky beast at best, and shooting from the back of a bouncing jeep is awful tough. If you stop the jeep even just long enough to take a shot, picking up speed again before the tank pwns you is chancy too.

Assault are VERY useful at flags. You don't need more than one or two at each, but there just aren't enough vehicles for everyone, and keeping your defending infantry alive is vital.

lol, minus the walker and add more ground targets and I'm in paradise.

Oh, and buggy doom(TM) is a 3rd registered trademark...

Think so? I seem to remember it being used in another IHS before the 3rd was born.

On Tampa, there's plenty of room for a Jeep crew to skulk at the borders of an armor fight, much like coyotes, and simply pick and move. A good armor crew will keep enemy armor busy, allowing the fast moving "coyotes" to scavenge from the side. Like I mentioned before, you need a support driver (Jeeves) with an advanced ammo hub driving around the shooter in the back, but stopping so he can line up shots. I recommend the long range missiles for this, unless they want to get in closer and use the Pilum.

Of course, this is all theory, but I'd love to test it next time I'm on a huge map like Tampa.

Is Highway Tampa a NS map, or is it a map that everyone can play?

    Re: Highway Tampa

It is an Assault Lines map that came packaged with 1.4 patch and is available to everyone with the patch installed. In other words, if you currenly play on the TG servers, you have the map already.
