Highway Tampa
So...after a long hard real life battle last night we finally tasted virtual battle on the infamous Highway Tampa. If I were to create my own news story covering the Highway Tampa map, it would read: "Today, as a result of a phenomenal scheduling and logistics mistake, a rather large convoy of EU Armor travelling along highway Tampa collided head on with an equally large convoy of PAC Armor. In the vast terrain surrounding the higway, with nowhere to run or hide, a massive battle of total vehicle carnage ensued. As Tanks, Battle Walkers, APC's, and FAV's shook the ground, Gunships took up arms above. When the smoke cleared, a massive twisted pile of metal blocked the higway. Authorities stated that traffic will remain backed up on the highway for hours (or possibly days) until the wreckage is cleared."
Very fun map. Definately a full server map. I think it will be a great place to hone engineer and vehicle skills. Also, this map would be a great setting for some armor training...hint hint TGU. I would love to see some thoughts on tactics on this behemoth of a map from some of our squad leaders.Last edited by nuckj; 11-14-2007 at 03:22 PM.

Re: Highway Tampa
I'm trying to imagine the first time someone runs into a group of 3 or more walkers.

Re: Highway Tampa
I was playing earlier on the MIA server. I ran into a group of 4 tanks and a walker.

Re: Highway Tampa
Well on this map tanks can totally play out their long range ability and easily trash walkers if they smart

Re: Highway Tampa
TGU does currently have a gunship module active, being run by myself and Eroak. Unfortunately, real life duties have both of us fairly occupied as of late. I hope to finish off the current list of trainees by the end of this month, real life duties permitting.
Maybe we'll see another Titan Scrim sometime in the future, roaring down the Tampa Highway...

Re: Highway Tampa
Haven't had a chance to play Highway Tampa yet. Definitely looking forward to blowing up plenty of enemy armor and/or aircraft.

Re: Highway Tampa
Just follow the line of supply boxes and you will find the fight. On one match there must have been five or six supply boxes dropped right down one of the main roads leading the way to the armor carnage. Engineers and snipers seem to have the best time of it right now. I bet long range support kits have a good go on the map, also.

Re: Highway Tampa
Make your opinion known here if you think we should run highway tampa on the second server.

Re: Highway Tampa
Done. The second server is now running Highway Tampa exclusively. This server can host a maximum of 48 players so we loaded the 32 player map up. If people feel this map is too small for that number of players, please report it back here and we'll give the 64 player map a shot.
In a few days we'll convert the server over to Titan with Highway Tampa as the map.
Again, please report any experiences, negative or positive, back here. Thanks.

The Seventh Circle
To be honest, my first impression of the map wasn't all that great. To start, there weren't even enough players to get the game going. So, when we finally hit the go mark, we only had the minimum number of players to start the game. Suffice to say, I was not expecting it to be so gigantic.
Now, I am not at all good with vehicles, or the Engineer kit, so I absolutely detested this map at the start. I didn't want to play either the kit, or in a vehicle, because I'm always getting killed and just wasting the vehicle that could have gone to someone else, so I found myself jumping in as the Assault kit. And, of course, whenever I do end up driving a vehicle, I always manage to find myself in a bus full of crazy Lucy's. Combined with the fact that there seemed to be one player for every vehicle, I found that choice of kit to be self-destructive.
For the first half hour, Highway Tampa was a nightmare. As I walked the open desert, alone, and pretty much naked compared to a Walker, I was desperate for a ride to get somewhere faster. I was getting so desperate, I was even considered driving the Lucy bus.
My score was horrible; I had a point/death spread of at least -10, and no one ever seemed to want to come out of their vehicles to engage in some kind of infantry-based firefight. But after tinkering with the Engineer kit, and learning to play it a little better, things started to get a little fun for me. Despite still sucking, and finishing the game with a negative spread, the map started to grow on me.
Later in the night when I came back and the server was just about full, at either 52 or 62, it was a lot more fun. Infantry had a more predominant role in clearing out the complexes where the flags are, and the vehicles seemed to be a little more distracted with one another -- giving me a chance to survive long enough to find myself yelling, "You crazy, Lucy Bi--!".
By the end of the second game, which also lasted a lot less time due to there being more people, I was back to my normal +3 for point/death spread. I finished the game with about an average number of points, of 12 or so. I have to say, I enjoyed it a lot more the second time around. This is one of those maps that, unless there are a fair number of players, it's just too much boring time spent getting to the action, when the action is over relatively quickly.
I do agree, though, that this is a great training ground to test your vehicle and Engineer skills. Lots of open ground for maneuvering, and even more vehicles to maneuver from.
All in all, not a bad map; when you get used to it.

Re: Highway Tampa
Awesome news for Aircraft lovers:
Highway Tampada Titan has 3! in words THREEE! in German "Drei!" Japanese "San!" Gunships per side!
2 share a spawnpoint inside your Titan and a 3rd Gunship will spawn on the pad of your homebase. This will lead to never seen hot airbattles!
