How I'm so good at flyin'
Ok, well.. maybe thats not true. I'm just very fancy. I do crash into things a lot though, but thats better to me than being shot down. I simply follow a simple rule:
distance = time
time = marksmanship
marksmanship = survival.
I follow the opposite of this rule when flying, because gunships and saws move faster than humans on the ground do. Therefore, I use that advantage against the gunships and SAAWs by flying close to the ground, and simply out-maneuvering anything I come across. If I know I'm not being targeted I may glance at my minimap for a semi-hard target like a walker or a tank attempting to reinforce ground troops. Walkers walk very slow, and because of relativity, when I'm up high I see large movements appear to be small. So do the sensors of my missile.. and they get a lock much easier when approaching at a vertical angle.

Re: How I'm so good at flyin'
I actually fly medium-high, and scan the mini-map for targets. If a tank/walker/seething mass of infantry pops up, I nosedive it. This usually gets the gunner a good shot on the TV-Missile/MG, if the target survives then I just circle around it if it's infantry or come back for a second pass after a while.
Also, I hate SAAWS.
Whoever it was that shot me down n times on Suez last night...I know where you live..

Motion mines will take you out if you fly too low.

I've used the stock AT rockets to good effect on gunships that try low alt hover turns or strafing runs on a flag. Just gotta be quick.
As far as flying goes, I mainly do the kind where you are launched via enemy explosives.

Flying Gunship is like a HOT n COLD game. Burn your fingers 1000 times on each map by crashing into stuff and getting shot down - but some day you will know the sweet spots where you can be efficient and not die.

Re: How I'm so good at flyin'
My old look on flying: trees and lightpoles don't move, you have to go around.
And like Lyra said, you will find the areas where you're screaming bloody murder and why isn't anyone helping, and the areas where you're just "in the zone," till some hotshot flys by and decks you or some little ant on the ground decides his SAAW is hungry.
Tips for being successful: always keep moving, don't hover (S key, it kills your energy/ability to react), prioritize enemies (1 gunship, 2 walker, 3, AAA, 4 armor), Tampa doesn't render lightpoles till you're just at the threshold of being able to react at full speed, so be careful, SAAWs are very very very persistent at chasing. But, the best advice: go out and fly and learn, hell, I'm still figuring stuff out and Lyra regularly kicks my ass.

OK Lyra... we know you can kill anyone with anything. Too bad 2142 doesn't have a bare fists mode too.

Heh nice! I actually prefer the SAAW if I'm gonna use a anti vehicle rocket on people, it shoots ridiculously straight. You can't really ever beat the pilium awesome factor though.
