AAR: Tunis Harbor, 1/12/2008 at 12:30am or "How we won when down 40-10"

The round started as usual. Damonte lead a squad of mostly 3rd SFD with ReaperAssault, GlobalWarmin, AugustusGloop, Lyramion and Sc1ence on the EU team. On the other side was the formidable 9th MID. ZWood15, Pfeil2281, DaddOfThree, Heavy<313>, Ven=2142, nuckj, spiff913 and BZ55. Oh yes, and Cymba from the 4th was on the PAC team as well.

The round started out slow with the 3rd squad taking a leisurely start. Running a buggy around the south side via the out of bounds route, Damonte arrived at Eastern Docks to find it completely empty. It was quickly captured. However, the 9th had done almost the very same in mirror and captured Junkyard. Power Station fell to the PAC team as well.

For fifteen minutes the rest of the EU team was unable to dislodge the invaders from Junkyard while the 3rd held onto Eastern Docks against very light attacks. Seeing that the EU team was down about 25 tickets, Damonte decided to move west over the boat and flank the 9th from the rear. While en route, he received information from the commander that Power Station was very lightly defended. His squad was quickly redirected to move on Power Station and the flag was captured. Naturally, Eastern Docks fell without any defenders.

Augustus Gloop procured a buggy and Damonte and Sc1ence raced around to Eastern Docks, leaving a fireteam of Lyramion and ReaperAssault to defend Power Station. With the help of GlobalWarmin who spawned in, Eastern Docks was retaken. At this point, EU was now down by about 30 tickets.

Seeing that Junkyard had never been removed from PAC hands and that the score was somewhere around 60-90 in favor of the PAC, Damonte gave the order. Abandon Eastern Docks and move on Junkyard. Over the boat again they went. The 9th was caught between the attackers from the EU UCB and the 3rd squad. Junkyard was quickly recaptured.

Not content to rest on this small victory, Damonte ordered a double-time run back across the boat to recapture Eastern Docks. Stuff resistance was encountered and the 3rd squad went down. Revives were traded as the squad struggled valiantly against the rocket and LMG fire. When all seemed lost, GlobalWarmin came out of nowhere to revive the SL and allow the 3rd squad to maintain their advanced position.

Pressing in close to the flag, the 3rd squad was able to recapture the Eastern docks flag with assistance from another EU squad that had come up from the south. After clearing out the remaining defenders, Damonte observed the score was 40-10.

"Good job squad. We didn't win, but we did an excellent job. Good work." The round was considered over. But was it?

    The score became 38-8, 35-6

31-4. Surely the game would soon be over.

24-3 - "Wow, we're going to take a bunch of them with us."

    21-3 - "Huh"

18-2 - "Are you kidding me?"

17-1 - "Oh, we're going to lose now."

15-1 - "Yup, good game guys."

11-1 - "OMG... are you serious?"

8-1 - "Do you think we might.."

    5-1 - "C'mon!!!"

3-1 - "OH please OH please OH please!"

    1-1 - ... twitching silently...

0-1 - ... much screaming and cheering in the TS channel.

EU comes back from a 30 ticket deficit in the last minute and a half to win by one ticket.

That game had to be the most amazing comeback in Battlefield history all the way back to 1942. I watched with my jaw on the floor as the scoreboard came to 1-1. "OMG they are gonna win it!" Then the last ticket fell away to reveal the EU victory! This round will be remembered for a long, long time.

with like 4 tickets left I was dead with 2 seconds left till I gave up the ticket. I think it was reaper who had the critical revive. I then hopped up and revived another guy. it was such a great ending to a night of good games.

Had to run 20m to the ladder and climb up to get that revive then we went and killed three other people as they spawned on the beacon that was up there

Thumbs up Re: AAR: Tunis Harbor, 1/12/2008 at 12:30am or "How we won when down 40-10"

It was a truly extordinary round last night.

I was squad leading the 9th MID for those two rounds on Tunis. We had successfully assaulted Power Station on our opening attack and stood there holding it throughout the first half of the round. We observed the 3rd SFD taking their leasurely drive just south of Power Station and warned our commander that Eastern was undefended. Seeing that the commander was "out to lunch" we immediately pushed to Junkyard and took that flag. We now had the bleed and waited for the counter attack from Eastern. Somewhere and somehow we had lost Power Station and pushed back again to retake that position. We met very stiff resistance as we battled around the building just west of Power Station. Just when all seemed lost someone revive and squad leader (I think it might have been Cymba) and we jumped down off the western building and squad bombed the flag successfully retaking Power Station. It was back to Junkyard to try and hold the line as the 3rd SFD was trying to push back across the boat dock. While the 3rd SFD was successful at pushing across the dock the 9th MID suffered greatly from the NASCAR behavior of several players on the EU side. With Junkyard lost we made our last stand at Power Station. With the tickets dwindling down I went down as the score was at 40-10. I congratulated the guys on a great round and thought it would be over any second.

As Damonte pointed out 5 seconds became 10 and then 15 seconds and then 20 seconds as I screamed for the PAC commander to drop an orbital on the enemy contacts, hoping for some quick instant kills, and asked to have everyone hold spawn on PAC. Unfortunately (as is usually the case these days) there was no response from the commander. I spawned in with the tickets at 6-2 and raced from the UCB in an FAV hoping to reach Junkyard where I could score a few quick kills. I resisted the urge to return the NASCAR favors that had been shown to the 9th MID earlier in the round but the match was over before I would reach the flag.

The score was 1-0 in favor of EU as screams or joy and pain rang out in the TeamSpeak channel.

    Great round guys!

I would have loved to hear what the channel sounded like in the last few minutes of the round and following minutes, must have been something. Intense rounds are the best!

    Best round ever.

I guess it was reaper that saved us then? I remember someone getting TK'd and seeing a couple bodies on the ground when we had 1 ticket left, and figured that was it.

Wow, sorry I missed it, sounds like you had one heck of a match, guess it goes to show you it's never over until that last ticket is gone.

Wow great comeback. I started playing that round but left early after not being in a good squad and being tired. Great job.

That round was just awesome... Wish I had been on the winning side, but I'm glad I got to be part of it! Great write ups from both DoT and Damonte!

When the tickets hit 1:1 we had one dead body on Eastern Docks.... glitched... with 3 Medics trying to put in their defib into every hole of his body.... just before the timer of the dead guy ran out we won.... too close...
