    Arrow 'Bout Time, AAR: Throwdown

I may be blind but I couldn't find an AAR yet so here it is.

I was team captain of the purple whatjmobobs. I picked my team. It was about 18v18 I think. I Told the guys the map and then handed over to Eroak who was the CO. He ran two five man squads and a six. One armour, one for Comm and one for statue. By the way it was a frosty night in Belgrade. In my Squad LordMeatWad led skill4life, me, icehawk (sorry if this is wrong), Pedestrian and Rakkasan. Lord split us into three loose kind of fireteams. Me and Icehawk, himself and Skill, Ped and Rak. We were to take Comm and hold it.

Rage led the armour squad with Fubar, Besiege, super-low-fat Bob and Lyra I think. There job was to grab the armour at the uncap and bring it up and defend the two back flags. I think they ran two in the APC, one in the tank and a two-man fireteam. When the walker went up it was Lyra's job to take it and wreak havoc (as you can see we were taking no prisoners). I'm not sure what the spare man did when Lyra was gone.

Vortex led a squad with the rest Zhohar was ther I think unfortuneatly I can remember no other names (sorry). They went to Statue. Oh yeah and in the second round PvtRob went on asset destruction.

The opening rush went well in the first round we took and held Comm and Statue for a good amount of time. MeatWad did great ordering people to the right places noticing early signs of pushes etc. I think we kept Comm until the last 50ish tickets, might have gone neutral once or twice. Statue went over and back a bit but we had it a good bit more than they did. Armour squad did a good job staying alive and keeping the enemy at bay. We won by about 110 tickets I think. Just an apology to my squad about my terrible performance in that round.
I'd say the highlight of this round was Ped and Rak gettin a ton of kills about 110 between them I think.

Much hilarity was had during the break with a vicious amount of Tking . We ran the same squads this round with the same strats barring PvtRob. The next round didn't start so well. MeatWad spawned in and just stood still, about 10-15 seconds later he was back, computer nearly exploded apparently. We were spawning in about the time the were finished capping Comm. We pushed in hard from the West and managed to clear them out and cap, great staying alive from SL in this push. We rebuffed many attacks from Ruins. When they finally realised Comm was a nogo they took playground. We decided to stay put as tickets were about even and there was no bleed. For about 120 more tickets there was a deadlock. Then our Monorail defense (was there any?) crumbled. MeatWad led usinto Ruins we capped this to stem the bleed. We then hightailed back to Comm Another squad took playground so we had a bleed for a little while then we lost statue, an enemy was also spotted on Ruin so we went there mopped up killed a tank and an APC. We then went for Pond as well. For the last fifty tickets we stayed there. The highlight from this round was Eroak dropping supplies on Comm while our squad and Rages squad recapped after a semi-sucessfull push from the enemy. He managed to squash all the life out of poor old MeatWad and miss Rage by inches.

During that second round Comm was always closely contested we have had to push in from playground a couple of times to recap I think. The underdogs definately upped there game in the second. There APC seemed to be everywhere .

I don't have Screenies but I'm sure some one does.

This was a great scrim and it has to be done again. Thanks to Rage for organising and Lorax for getting server ready. We are probably unique in being able to hold such big scrims and we have to remember the amount of work all the admins do to make these things possible.

This is my take on what I can remember. Looking forward to it from other peoples point of view.

    Re: 'Bout Time, AAR: Throwdown

Well, I didn't see much from inside my tank..except bodies flying. We recieved the order to move on Statue, I took a position on the NE side behind the Walker. AS the infantry was moveing in I was firng into the south build from under the walker. A couple of rounds almost hit the walker's legs as Lrya stepped when I shot. Not sure exactly what took me down, but my tank destroyed I went back and waited for a new one.
Upon securing the new tank, I was ordered to assist at Pond. There must have been two or three engy's there, everytime I took a shot it felt like three came at me. Tank down....twice. The third time, I flanked on the west of Pond and found the enemy SL..a well placed shell took him and at least one other and our infantry moved in.
I followed the infantry to Ruin and assisted them to quickly cap the flag, then I rejoined my squad at Statue and the battle continued.

The second round, I was tasked with the same orders. Secure a tank and moce on Statue. This time it wasn't so easy, something happened in our main and I ended up way in front of our squad, I provided cover for the squad at Statue. The enemy was already there and I did the best I could to support our team, only to get destroyed.
I secured anther tank and began to move back to Statue, Zhohar was bringing up the APC when we both noticed an FAV going to Monorail and we engaged...keeping the flag.
This would happen again, but with the APC and the tank working both flanks the cap at monorail would only last for a couple of minutes...then we would have it back.
After losing yet another tank in battle, I secured my last one for the night and proceeded to Statue. I took the west route in, this would bring me into the SW corner and I would be able to flank the opposing force that was fighting our troops on the SE. I ran into a squad just as I could see the south building at Statue, after taking a couple of hits on my tank I retreated to repair it. Getting it repaired seemed to take forever, then I moved back in only to be met by a lone engineer(later to be known as Spiff) that fired a shot directly into the side of my tank. I fired back, but using the ground to his advantage, I hit the hill in front of him. Damaged, I pulled back to repair. Now trapped on the west side, between buildings, I would live or die here. I got the tank back to about 80% and pulled forward to engage him again. He fired, I fired. I missed and he didn't. Once again, a retreat to repair. Had the distance between us been closer I would have probably died while repairing. Each time we battled, he got closer and closer. This woudl end one way or the other. I had retreated to the SW and was on the hill between the side road and the main road when I saw him again.....pesky engineer! My tank was at 75% and I could no longer back up. the Pilum was doing it's job with every hit. He fired and took the tank down to about 15%, this was my chance. The Pilum takes a couple of seconds to reload, I pushed my tank towards his position as he was reloading behind the wall. As I passed the corner I turned the turret and fired into the wall just above his head..........it was over......Spiff-Gumbo! I repaired my tank and moved towards Statue, with a stop to clear some mine for our APC.
That was, by far, the best battle between an engineer and a tank! I tip my hat to Spiff for keeping my tank out of the main battle for a langhtly period. It seemd like forever.
    Well Done!

    Re: 'Bout Time, AAR: Throwdown

I had Avalanche from the 8th, Nuck from the 9th, and a trio of Irregs to round things out.

Our objective was to get to Statue first and then hold for the armor. Unfortunately, the first round did not work out so well, as I was driving the buggy. I'm not quite as "interesting" a driver as Lorax, but my delays prevented us from getting there in time, and when we did we found a whole squad waiting for us. So said, we proceeded to get Pond and Ruins, and then began applying pressure up the center.

There were a few times that some sneaky enemy squads slipped through the lines at Com Tower and turned those two flags, and every time we'd about-face and work on re-taking them. Towards the end there was a rather vicious firefight between Ruins (which the enemy held) and Pond (which we held) that required the intervention of our armor. Squad did well as a whole, though, and we wound up in second place with around 180 points altogether (our other ground squad had something like 250 points, and the armor squad was at around 120). What was funny, and I failed to grab screenshots of it, was that on the leaderboards the squads were all grouped pretty much together. The first six slots were the other ground squad, the next six were us, and the rest were the armor squad.

Second round was a repeat of the first round, as Eroak figured that the same tactics could bring us another victory. He was right, and this time my squad managed to lock down Statue early and then hold against enemy armor. I managed to convince my friend Darklight02 to join us for this (even got him registered on the board and everything ) and he was sitting in the enemy tank taking constant aim at my head. I know that I had at least two tank shells whistle through my skull on back-to-back spawns before I pulled back and let my engineers handle things.

Once Statue was secure we pushed to Com Tower, trying to avoid enemy armor and hold off waves of enemy infantry. Again, there were some breakthroughs to Playground and Monorail, and each time my squad was ordered to patch things up - which we did with the aid of some armor. (Armor makes a wonderful bandage ) Unfortunately, the server screwed up teamwork points for the round (Somehow it gave me 56 teamwork points but I only had a total score of something like 38), so I wasn't able to get a good and accurate reading of how everyone did as a whole.

It was great fun, I must say. Definitely looking forward to doing it again sometime soon!

I believe that is from the fun tk'ing going on between rounds. I had -18 or something going into the second round, i might have gotten the bronze star if i hadn't been such a bad person pre-round.....

But PvtRob had -41 teamwork points for the whole round so i shouldn't complain.....

    Yeah, the core was a bit screwy. I had 30+ kills in the tank(I think), but I had a -38 Teamwork score. I don't remember killing.....many......team members.............other than pre-battle.

That was Grimm's squad. It was a rather good back and forth between the two squads with some great action in the hallway. It felt like all we did was run back and forth between the two flags for a bit, that is until we were re-tasked by Crux and told to fall back. At that point we re-took Pond and held the two until the darn tank rolled back in and made mincmeat out of us.

*Looks shiftily from side to side* I didn't blow up the tank and APC with RDX and knife you all several times.

Yeah the scores were completely off. I'm not sure was it to do with the pre-round TKing session because as far as the server is concerned they were completely different rounds. As well as that I remember TKing a lot of people then and my teamwork score was right. Also what really strange is I got the silver medal but I was half way down the scoreboard and bronze was a third of the way down on the other side (Eroak got gold but he should have). As I was looking at the scores I didn't notice anything amiss...meh, did anyone take a screen shot?

Yes, it was at that point (you guys falling back) that we began backpedaling from Ruins ... when we saw the tank roll in we figured it was worth trying to recap that flag with some armor support.

    Re: 'Bout Time, AAR: Throwdown

First round I was with Rastaman's 2nd squad (Vertomac, TechWar, and someone else - my mind is blank right now.) We were tasked with pushing the Comm tower immediately, and holding it while the remainder of the squads were to, apparently, keep Lyra from getting the walker.

As we pushed through playground to the far Eastern edge, repeated "There! Walker! It's definitely hostile!" rang out as the TS channel was filled with the SL's and Pfeil's yelling of "Lyra has the walker!"

Rasta gave the go to move on comm, and we were immediately pinned down by a three man fire team. We were driven back twice here, (due to medic miscommunication,) and well placed shots on any medic moving towards Rasta when we went down. We tried a push up the center, and again were greeted with a three man fire team. We tried around 7 different pushes that net nothing for the entire round. The squad who was defending Comm Tower held fast for a majority of the round until Squad 3 (don't remember who's squad,) helped us push in. At this point, I abandoned my Voss and entirely busied myself with reviving soldiers from both squads who went down, keeping the push going.

Unfortunately, as we took it, it was too little too late, and we lost 150 (ish) - 0. Happily, I finished the round in first place for EU, but far behind anyone else on the PAC.

In between rounds I managed a -24 Teamwork in a mass knife fight PAC side.

Second round I ended up in Drona's squad (an amalgam of Drona's first squad and Rasta's, because Rasta had to leave,) in a two-man fire team with Tech War. Again, we pushed comm tower and held it for the first third of the round. Unfortunately due to miscommunication, we ended up running as a squad to certain points instead of fire teams. A PAC squad was able to rush the flag and cap it.

We respawned at the Statue and were told to hold it. At this point, Tech and I took the walker and moved on Playground to help another squad cap it. We were asked to move back on the Statue to help our squad defend a squad push from the North, and moved. Tech failed to use the Active Defense, and moments before we made it back to the statue, we went down. We spanwed on Drona and moved to the Walker side of the North building and were greeted by a lone solider. We went back and forth through the hallway, putting shots on eachother when we realized it was Lyra attempting to get to the walker. I naded the hallway and was able to put him down just as the Walker respawned.

Tech hopped in, and was immediately inundated with Pilum shots. He went down almost instantly. We fanned out to hold from defenders, and I was able to take down three different attackers on the Flag. Unfortunately, I ran out of ammo as one went to revive another, and I made a huge mistake. I attempted to switch to my side arm and put final shots on the medic, but switched to my knife. Do or Die, so I leapt at the medic and took a swipe, only to miss, and have Lyra - the dead soldier, revive and put me down immediately as the medic ran off scott-free.

We held the Statue flag (although it went gray a few times,) and finished out the round by rocket spamming the ruins. We ended up losing 110-0.

You guys gave our squad a pretty good beating during some of your charges. Notably when you went around on the edge of the map side (east i think).

And the scores were i think 133-0 and 118-0. They felt much closer than that score would suggest though.

I forgot about the time we broke through and were immediately pushed to the north side of the comm tower area, still very much on the far eastern portion of the map.

That comm tower fight was a pain.

That was an epic duel. I wish we had battle recorder on - it would make a great video.

I was thinking you could make it in the style of a nature show - "Two animals, locked in a life-and-death struggle for survival on the plains of Belgrade."

As my contribution to the AAR, I'd like to note just briefly and in passing, that I managed to kill the Walker 3 times (once in the 1st round and twice in the 2nd). And I believe it only had one driver... Of course I probably had at least 10 deaths from the walker in the process.

Overall it was a fun couple of rounds - can't wait for the next installment of the Throwdown!
