Anti-Spam Camp G tactics
Hello , im not sure if im allowed to post here but here goes....
Well i was on TG and had nuckj and some other tg'ers in my squad. I personally hate spamming and find that 95% of the time on most servers camp g turns into a toll/ruin spamfest, and i find myself hating an otherwise great map.I find a lot of people accept this as the way to play Camp G.
Instead i employed these tactics while PAC(obviously not full proof), First my squad rush the harbour flag, the squad was good , so we were able to push hard and fast, as soon as we got the flag we left it straight away and went for the toll, even if they recap it doesnt matter, we keep moving fast and push through toll and bypass it to central camp. Success of this tactic so far depends on speed and your squads ability to kill quick and revive quick , which we did so far.
Once at central we defend until a few squads spawn in and can attack toll from two fronts, with toll soon to be ours i gather my squad and head into the upper level of ruins via the walkways, constantly telling my squad to jump down and keep attention away from me while i hide in a corner and pick off the spawners on the higher levels, at this time there are literally 95% of the team at ruin , but with my squad constantly spawning in and dropping immeaditely on the flag it eventually becomes ours after some fierce fighting( you need a decent squad for this).
Once the flag is ours we need to clear out the enemy and make our way to capture the building south of ruin, again after some fighting we capture the building. Once that is done we stay on the second floor and try kill the enemy defending the upper level bridge leading to the EU base, then rush accross capturing the balcony on the higher level of EU base, not going into the open higher level above flag. We kill off the higher level defenders by some going round to shoot and others ready for the revives then swapping, eventually the team gets pushed to the back and you can rush the flag , but unfortunately the round ended before we could cap them out. But still it was a great round.
Obviuosly these tactics wont always work , but its a leats one way to try avoid the boring spammage that can happen so often on Camp G. Special thanks to my squad that round. Also most of these tactics will make life easier for your team , if you quickly cap harbour, then it gets Eu defenders on the back foot and forces them to rush back to re-take thr flag opening up the side routes even if you fail. and if you take central you are giving your team the most defendable flag on the map, and if you hold the building south of ruin/ balcony at EU , you are pushing defenders back allowing your team to push up to the EU building.
Hope you guys find this an interesting read, if you have any tactics to stop camp G spam , please tell us.
Also not sure if i should post this in tactics section as it is an AAR but also a tactics post...Last edited by Bobslovski; 02-02-2008 at 01:48 AM.

Re: Anti-Spam Camp G tactics
I suppose it's alright here, but then again, i'm new, so what do I know?
Anyways, that's seems like a pretty good way to go about things. I've played on Camp-G an untold number of times, and I've never seen someone do that. Probably confusing the heck outta the EU...

Re: Anti-Spam Camp G tactics
generally the bypassing toll is the hard part.

Re: Anti-Spam Camp G tactics
You got that right Mach. I just SL'ed a round of Camp G while on defense and even though the entire rest of the team spawned harbor, I instructed my squad to spawn and defend Toll. It was a little boring at first but eventually the sneaky ninjas showed up and gave us some action. We may not have gotten the most points but if we had not been there to stop those squads at toll then they would have executed the tactics laid out in the original post. Eventually the whole battle came to Toll and my team backed up a little and defended the back part of Toll and stopped a couple more sneaky squads (one with camo and everything). All in all the tactics described above are a great way to take this map and a good defense at toll is a great way to keep it from happening.
p.s. Kudos to BBgun and the rest of my squad for showing patience this round.

I typically just bypass harbor. If you time it right you and the enemy walker will go right by each other at the entrance to Toll Station. Leave one person to delay them at Toll, and keep pushing through to Central Camp, Ruins and EU Base. It doesn't work all the time, but it works often enough. And if I take out the times there is a squad of 3rd guys waiting right on my path of travel, it works most of the time

Nice write up Bob! I wish more people knew about your tactics. Instead of a grenade exchange, squads continually probing for weaknesses makes for a much more exciting game!

Re: Anti-Spam Camp G tactics
When SLing and defending Gib, I always start at Toll and hold there. I find that giving the enemy Harbor is like giving them a birthday cake with sticks of dynamite for candles - the cake tastes great, but it's going to blow up in your face. (Thus, the cake is a lie.
) By the same regard, the enemy gets a bit more enthusiastic when given Harbor, only to run right into the wall of defense that Toll Station provides. Since it is a natural bottleneck, it forces the enemy to concentrate all their numbers into a small area to make any sort of a push. Thus, the defense has the advantage.
On the other hand, the most important rule for attacking Gib is speed. If you cannot push past Toll quickly - within the first 5-6 minutes - you will have a very tough time doing it at all. Once the defenders are in place, they can sit back and stop anything you throw at them, which causes your side no end of ticket bleed. The only other way to counter this is to have a commander who can coordinate the squads just right. Using orbital and EMP strikes on one side of the line and the following with a 1-2 squad push up that side can sometimes break the defensive line and allow for the necessary breakthrough. It has to be well-timed, however, and stealth is helpful.
The AAR I wrote, though in novel format, shows what happens when you get lucky and make your move in the aftermath of an orbital. Sometimes it can be the difference between victory and defeat. Sometimes it comes too late. All depends on the situation and how well you can play it.:madsmile:Captain, 8th Mercenary Division:madsmile:

Quick question Bobslovski. Did your side win the round? What was the final score. Just curious.

Re: Anti-Spam Camp G tactics
Yeah we won , dont remember the score .Was a close game until the very end after we capped ruin , we started to pull away a bit.
But im very sure it was because of our squad that we won.

Re: Anti-Spam Camp G tactics
Good right up Bob, I often try this also. Defending, I usually like to have the squad hang at Toll and be ready to move back if someone gets thru. If Crux is on the other side, I make it a point to have an IDS in the back in case they get thru unnoticed. Once someone gets thru, my orders are usually for the squad to spawn at the back and meet them.
You where with us the other might when we where defending and it was a great pleasure to have you and your teammate with us. Even with two members wondering off we managed to hold our flags and take Harbor near the end. That was a tremendous round.

Re: Anti-Spam Camp G tactics
I'm glad you posted about that match Bob. That was one of the best rounds I have ever played on Camp G. Those tactics you employed to get us on every flag were brilliant. Especially the ruins flag. It was basically our squad vs. the majority of the enemy team. I honestly thought we would have been over run. But bob hid up top and the squad used him as a spawnpoint and kept spawning and jumping down to the flag literally inching the flag down till we finally got it neutral and cleared it. History making Camp G cap there! Great job SLing there and awesome job squad!

Re: Anti-Spam Camp G tactics
Although this does make for an exciting game, I've seen too many times where constant probing causes the attacking team to loose. The main reason I only try to push through once or twice is because I know the other 2 or 3 SLs and various team members are going to try pushing the whole game. All they end up doing is eating up tickets.

Re: Anti-Spam Camp G tactics
That why this is based on doing things quick b4 they have a chance to settle into defence.
But if as you say the rest of the team is constantly throwing themselves into the enemy then you are going to lose anyway , so the best bet would be o try break through .
The way i view the game is to have fun , and of course its great to win , but spamming in defence is not my idea of fun or neccessariy i would push myself and squad to the limit and try out exciting new tactics.
There are always going to be ways through for example send 2 engi's with bait up the main road throwing bait, and have a buggy waiting to break through with the SL.
For me almost breaking through a whole round but failing would be crap , but not as bad as sitting beside a ammo box clicking your mouse the whole time.

Re: Anti-Spam Camp G tactics
Well you know I don't disagree that the spam on Camp G sucks, I never just to sit and spam. As a point, if you are indeed close enough to spam, then you are too close to toll. On average, if the team were to play together, the best tactic would be to take and hold the first flag. Make the defending team get out of toll and come to you. Trying to blast through just because the rest of the team is failing to do so just makes you part of the problem. If you get lucky and make it through sure you could win. You still have to overcome the initial ticket lose, take central camp before they setup there, and at the same time make it to ruins, because the central camp - ruins spam can be horrible also. If any these fail you just end up with spam at the central camp - ruins or toll - central camp. Anyway, if you try this with experienced squads on the server there is almost always a full squad that spawns toll. Throwing down motion mines and ids takes less than a minutes.

Re: Anti-Spam Camp G tactics
The central camp / ruin spam is indeed horrible but not too hard to bypass imo, no matter what side your on
