Shuhia Taiba, 2008-10-09 - Do the commander's dance!

Oooh, a Titan map! On TG no less! Time for me to show off my expertise like the bastard I am.

    I apply for PAC commander.

Friendly transport headed to 1, enemy transport headed to 2, no commander action required, both teams seem to be on a wordless agreement to secure all the silos before beginning the fight. I move the Titan northwest.

"Intel report, enemy massed at 5 and 2."

We take silo 3. One squad per silo. We wait.

Enemy movement on 4. UAV dispatched. Skirmish ensues. I fire a volley from the Titan guns but miss my mark. I fire another volley and then step off to place my eyes back on my control panel. I spot the stragglers. Safe for now.

The squadwork is top notch. The squads are grouped together, the squad leaders are talkative, precise and helpful. We have a good array of vehicles in our possession, most notable a battlewalker.

The enemy lands a transport on top of the dome at silo 1. No way to easily intercept it and it seems our gunships are missing. I order the squad to relocate at silo 2.

"Intel report: Single on 5, single on 2, countless on 1.

Trading places. We get 2, the enemy gets 1.

"Triple on 5, double on 3, west."

    ...

"Silo 5 clear. Quadruple on 2, west, approaching with vehicles. Triple on 3."

    ...

"Silo 5 clear, silo 2 clear."

"Commander, check on silo 4 please."

The squad is almost there. I spot-check the place.

"Infantry on 4, UAV in 10 seconds."

The UAV reveals an entire enemy squad. They neutralize and capture the silo. We get it back just as quickly. Blow for blow.

Check on the Titan status: enemy at 25% shield, friendly at 50%.

"Silo 5 clear, silo 3 clear, enemy is massed at silo 2."

I report the situation of each silo periodically. Number of enemies, silo number, side of concentration if any.

Requesting supply drop - supply request denied.

"Squad 2, supply drop ready in 15 seconds."

"Squad 2, supply drop ready, designate location."

    Requesting supply drop.

Acknowledged. Be advised of a supply drop in your sector.

    Message from squad 3.

    "Squad 4 headed to 1."

"Squad 4, thank you. Quadruple infantry on 1, with tank."

I EMP the tank. This buys enough time for a jeep to blow past it and take it out from behind. We secure silo 1 again.

The enemy Titan begins pounding at the squad stationed at silo 2. I order them to switch to 5, where it's clear.

    "Plan for shields down, commander.

"Squads 3 and 5 on Titan defense. Everyone else on Titan offense. Please remember that shield overloading is allowed on this server."

    "Copy."
    "Copy!"
    "Got it."
    "Roger."

The enemy Titan shield is down.

Squad 4 is podding up. UAV recharging.

"Intel report, single on enemy Titan, enemy is massed at silos 1 and 2."

Squad 4 destroys one console, then another. The enemy gathers into the remaining corridors. A quick look at the positions tells me an exchange of nadespams is going on. We chew up the last two consoles and open the reactor room.

"Squads on offense, return to silos. Do not revive upon death.

I have some breathing room. I pod to silo 4, lay down a handful of mines, and use the APC to pod back up to the friendly Titan.

    Our Titan shield is gone!

"Intel report: entire enemy force is on enemy Titan."

The squads follow orders perfectly. No one remains. We capture all the silos.

The enemy begins podding towards silo 2.

I assign squads to silos 1, 2 and 5. Silos 3 and 4 remain unattended.

I detect an enemy recon and our defense isn't completely setup yet. I chase him down, but not before he destroys a console.

"Squad 3, defend corridor 1. Abandon the other side."

Squad 5 is defending as well. He's not talking, but he seems aware of what he's doing and his sort of free will gives him the role of headless chicken in the cargo bay. He's perfect to soften up the opposition and take out shield attackers. I return to safety.

"Intel report: enemy on enemy Titan, podding to 2 and 1."

The enemy gathers a foothold on the ground again. I check up on the Titan status. We're ahead by 50%.

It takes the enemy several minutes before they take out our upper undefended console. Looking at the IDS readings worries me a little bit. I see at least eight enemy soldiers constantly attempting attacks, and some of them seem to be standing in a shield-overload position.

My SAT Track reveals a crucial detail.

"Attention all squads. If you are not defending, assault enemy Titan! Assault enemy Titan!"

The enemy had deserted the place. The reactor core was open, wide open, ready for us to finish up the job.

"Squad 2, attack enemy Titan. Single infantry in core room, you have a window."

"Waiting for APC sir, we'll be there shortly."

Another squad pods up and floods the reactor room. I see two dots lining up next to what would be the shield leading to the hangar. We've got the place covered. I drop supplies on the back deck just in case.

Another look at the friendly Titan. Our defense is holding on. I estimate that if the enemy had attempted to overload the shield, they should be done any second. I don't worry. The game is ours. The enemy Titan hull's integrity takes a steady drop as anti-vehicle rockets chew it down.

"Intel report: Enemy is on 5, 2 and 1."

I ride an air transport to silo 1 and help capture it. My last report is meaningless.

    Badaboom.

    "Fantastic squadplay, everyone."

Yeah... except for the part where I ran over the same guy 5 times with my tank. Kept getting rezzed behind me while I was trading shots with enemy armor and evading their shells by... you guessed it... reversing over the freshly revived cannon fodder. Sorry dude. You are squishy, and the tank isn't.

Shurikane, your a very good commander but i have to say, try using the single squad comm channel. Its very difficult to lead a squad when I here a talky commander.
Although your talk is useful its still difficult to hear my squad.

If you dont know how to single squad talk just highlight them in the squad bar or on the map.

p.s try to make sure your talking to the right squad, Always double check

Press the number key of whichever squad you wish to talk to and then use V to talk to just that squad. A little more hectic for the commander to micro manage sit reps but much more effective to squads who only hear relevant information. Maybe mix it up every now and then with an all squads heads up using B ?

Always go for individual squad talk if the danger is only immediate to them!

Also, holding control while pressing the numbers you select multiple squads. For instance:

Holding nothing while pressing 1 then 4 and then pressing 'V' has you talking to squad 4

Holding ctrl while pressing 1 then 4 and then pressing 'V' has you talking to squads 1 and 4

Holding shft while pressing 1 then 4 and then pressing 'V' has you talking to squads 1, 2, 3, and 4
