Late Night with an 11th Squad

Last night two of my fellow IHS members and I ran a few late night rounds on the TG Server. The members of our squad fluctuated as welcomed pubbies came and went, but for the bulk of the rounds (about six to seven in a row) the squad consisted of Smachin007 (who was the SL), Global.Cooling, chris_hooper, Drennyn, Cavall, and myself.

There were too many rounds to recall all of the action, but I will tell of the moments I liked the best. (These may also not be in correct chronological order either, remember it was late and I was fairly tired.)

One on the best moments of the night was an entire round at Tunis Harbor. Smachin decided, in all his wisdom, that his squad as going to 'Hell in a hand basket.' So, as EU, we drove all the way to Eastern Docks, hopped out and grabbed the flag. We then repelled multiple waves of attacks from PAC forces, managed to hold their walker's attention for a good length of time, and in between attacks, managed to set up a trap, which didn't work.

Our squad was working so well together that we never 'lost' the flag the entire round. In the closing seconds of the match the PAC did manage to bring it to neutral, but they never turned it to their color.

The was also the Cap Out on Cerbere Landing. Of course, it shouldn't really count as the EU lost half their team at the beginning of the round and Smachin was shouting over VOIP, "Go for their flags, they just lost half their team! I want to cap'em out!" So our squad took off neutralizing flags then moving on to the next. We didn't cap them out quite as smoothly as we would've liked, but our team still got the job done.

However, the best part of the entire night was the most beautiful thing I've ever seen on the battlefield. Ok, so that might be a bit much, but it was still an awesome sight. It was a Titan Map, Suez Canal. Smachin lead us out to take and hold a silo. It was relatively easy work, and our team didn't have much trouble at all controlling the silos. When the enemy Titan's Shields when down, Smachin gave the order to Assault the Titan.

As our squad got on the enemy Titan, we noticed that another squad was there as well. Lead by Rage. The two squads looked at one another, smiled, then each took off down a separate corridor. Our squad went right, and Rage's squad went left. Both of the lower consoles were destroyed nearly simultaneously.

The two squads once again came face to face as they ran up to the higher level. No enemy resistance up to be seen. Again the two squads stormed their respective consoles and again they were destroyed nearly simultaneously.

The two squads again came face to face as they gathered to storm the core. The two squads poured into the core room and Assault Kits took up watching the surrounding corridors for enemy infantry as RDX was placed on the core. Boom. Quick, beautiful, a work of pure battlefield art.

The Titan Assault took no longer than two minutes to execute from boarding to destroying the core.

Teamwork at it's finest. Without the use of SL to SL communications, mind you.

Well played to everyone on our team for those rounds! It was a great night of fun.

    OOPS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

There has been many times that we have all stopped all assaults for that very reason. The larger team was instructed to defend current positions only.

    Just a thought fwiw.

Full unconditional and immediate halt to all assaults and a pulling back towards a friendly flag would be the norm, wouldn't it?

Ok...we really need to figure something out here.

We play for realism..yes? What's realistic about halting an attack because half the enemy team got disconnected? Would you stop an advance in real life because half the enemy turned and ran?

Some may argue that the other team didn't get to have any fun because they were capped out. Now..honestly...would it have been fun for the other team to stand at Command Center and be utterly crushed anytime they tried to make a run for Roadblock? In the time it would've taken them to get back on our team would've had one hell of a defense set up.

I think we did the other team a favor by ending the round, loading the next map and giving them plenty of time to get back on, and get their squads/kits set back up with the 1:30 countdown.

I don't know. It seems unrealistic. If the other team decided to retreat, fine. When a retreat order is given it is staged to prevent a rout. However this seems to be closer to people just winking out of existence. Capping them out almost seems like stat padding. Personally I am against it but maybe it's just personal preference. Not the end of the world but just sharing experiences when the server has dconned half the team.

You are kidding, right? The realism argument does not stand up here. Half of the enemy team disappeared due to a bug beyond their control, they did not turn tail and flee.

There is not hard and fast rule of what to do when this happens, but common courtesy would be to rebalance the server. And when this unfortunate bug does hit, I would certainly hope that the team unaffected by it would not push for a cap out.

Greifing, via exploiting another person(s) uncontrollable bug.

This is a exploit and not open to futher decussion. No one is in trouble, but now the standing on this is clear. A team falls victum to crashes should not be advanced upon other then to stop ticket bleed. If I see anyone knifed via this resault by a TG member, You better expect a nice PM from an admin.

Fortunately this only happens at the start of rounds to one team. So this is easy to pick up on. As for pubbies, They are going to run around and kill/cap. There isn't much to do about it because our posted loading rules say nothing about it and wont. Not enough space for anything else to be added. I'm not going to take action on them unless it's out of control. But If I'm there anyways, I'll reset the start timer so the other team can reload back in.

Wow, Really? Come on guys, we set the example of maturity and fairness. People look up to our community and values. That was not a win in my opinion and I personally would have been ashamed.
Usually when this occurs, noting that no admin was on at the time, I have restarted the map to make if fair.
I mean really, they reconnect and get slaughtered even if you just wait.

Ok, this was not supposed to cause harsh feelings or harsh words. I was having a good night as it was only the 3rd night out of the past month and half that I've had voip. The other team crashed, so I said to push forward. It's not something I do or would ever expect anyone here at TG to do on as a standard, that would just be stupid. I apologize if I offended/ ticked anyone off in the process.
Whats the Deal with the tiny sig limit?
