Good observation Teflonman, I have noticed that as well. I like to SL and often get caught in the dilemma of someone on TS asking "can you send me an invite" after my squad is full.

... I know this is just a coincidence, but I find it funny that I made a squad named TG on a random Berlin pub server today and had it fill in two seconds. Only TG on with me was pphauneulf (is that how you spell it?).

I don't mean to center this around myself, but I use myself as an example of how some will not enter under certain TG squads. At times I have had communication problems, some reasons were out of my control. Whether it is right or not, your SM's confidence in you can be lost because of them not understanding why you do things or they feel like you are an idiot in a round.
    BeSiege82,

I have encountered that so often that I don't bother to SL much. I generally attract Lone Wolves as I am still in the infancy of learning how to SL and have difficulty keeping a squad unified and working towards a common goal. Last night alone, the SL dropped out of a full squad. I decided to take the reigns. All I had left was a single TG SM and a non-TGer who put up with my noob-like antics. I warn people in advanced that I am new to all of it. At least if they would inform me what I was doing wrong in game, it would give me a chance to improve ... *SIGH*

Re: You can always tell a TG squad by how fast it fills up

I found that the best way to keep a cohesive squad together was:

    A) Demand VoIP on at all times. If the guy doesn't have a mic, at least make sure he can hear you and comply with what you say.

    B) Kick off SMs who blatantly disregard SL orders and who are all over the map except where they are supposed to be. Your mileage may vary on this. If you're playing Titan or vehicle Conquest, then it's expected that some SMs may be stranded outside of their own control for an extended period of time (at which point they should tell the SL about it to let him know what they are up to.) Now, this might sound controversial to some, but from my POV, I have no use for a SM who, quite simply, does no effort to follow orders or be credit to team. So by association, that means that pretty much all TGers and the majority of pubs who regularly play on TG are in no danger whatsoever. They can sleep easy. That sort of thing is reserved to the very new, very ignorant (and often very belligerent) SMs who think they can play this game like they play Quake III Arena.

Chrome, I still feel that way... and I've been SL`ing for months now! The best way to learn is to shamelessly clone someone... I dunno, with me it was Reader's communication skills and Silver's tactics... and I've been told I am a hardass sometimes, so maybe throw a bit of Zhohar in there and violla! It's me! *hears a great number of people bolting for the door* However, if I see you SL`ing, I'll join up and give some tips if you'd like.

Sometimes I run a near empty squad, but most of the time it fills up fast enough, and I did not wear the tags until very recently (on account of my lack of Supporting Membership`ism. The SM part isn't fixed yet, but I figured we were losing some people and I should do my part to get TG out there, esspecially for the pubbies who visit us.) All one needs is a little persistance, and once people identify you, they'll join. If you're new or do not have the tags, they probably won't, as on any given night there are at least 2 silent squads formed on each team. No one has the time to investigate every idiot who hits the "create squad" button.

Re: You can always tell a TG squad by how fast it fills up

I find I have very little patience for squad members that aren't doing what they are supposed to be doing. Over the past three days, I have had maybe one TG member join, and the rest be pubbies. About two of them go off doing their own thing at the start, resulting in kicks. Then two more people join, we go do whatever. About halfway through the lone TG member leaves because our squad is paralyzed by the sheer incompetency of it's members and my constant need to stop and reprimand them. That TG guy is soon followed by two more people leaving, and suddenly by the end of the round I find myself the SL of two people.

I honestly do not have the nerves required to SL inexperienced players. I can't do it. But because no one knows me, I get all the pubbies and whoever didn't jump into some other TG squad. Honestly, I disgust myself with all the reprimanding and yelling and disciplining I have to do!

I really would like to avoid it, but because of these facts, I come across as a raving mad SL that yells at his squad for the slightest mistake. *sigh*

    Does anyone have any advice?

Actually, Kelvin, you sound like me four months ago... hell, I imagine I'd turn the same way if I started getting over 50% pubbies again. Amid such horror, one would even wish for Martha in his squad! Gasp!

And, actually, I've already made myself depressed just thinking about it... advice, anyone?

Take a stance, project confidence and be stearn with the pubs. Sometimes explaining what you are going to be doing gives them the feeling that you do know what you are doing. If they do not listen, warn them and then kick them from the squad. I sometimes lead under a different soldier and experience some of these problems, but after I warn or kick one or two, the rest listen. Also, have fun! Laugh with them when your plan falls apart, god knows that I do.
Keep trying, don't let them beat you up!!

Heh, I have tried cloning a couple of tactics ppl have used in the past... but I guess experience pays off in the end So I have decided that I should SLed at least one map a night.

By all means, please join up when you see my squad "SL DOWN!" I enjoy running with you when you SL. You have made my short list of must join whenever possible

Yeah that Martha is a real sphincter-bound orifice .. dagnabbit

Best advice I have for how to deal with unruly squad members is to use humor - humor is a very powerful weapon. If humor doesnt work then I use kick. The round is too short to deal with stubborn distractions, and the rest of the squad has to postpone the war while the SL disciplines.

If I have someone who isnt doing what they should I first reiterate the command incase they didnt hear; then I say something like " if you are gonna run off and be a bad little monkey then Im gonna have to boot you and I DONT want to do that so PLEASE be a good lil monkey .. please ? " which usually results in the rest of the squad chuckling at the bad monkey at which point humiliation drives them to tow the line or leave the squad. Getting irate is always a last resort tactic that must be used very judiciously or you start getting 'labeled' all kinds of things I cant type here.

Lol, this reminds me of those Sonic PSAs about reporting suspicious people that try to touch you in uncomfortable ways.
