Round 1: Defending Cerbere Landing
I joined the game late into the round, and the screenshot speaks volumes for what happened:
The EU team had lost every flag but Office ruins. I spawned in, only to eat a grenade from somewhere above. Spawned in, pushed up to South Town Center, ate a volley of rockets.
Soon thereafter, the round ended. As Camp Gibraltar loaded, I remembered something Reap said a long time ago when we were in the 3rd: "We're a second round team."
We need some failure to infuriate us and make us bring forward our 110%. After eating Grenades at Office Ruins for a bit, I can say with certainty, I was plenty infuriated. I had a feeling the rest of the team wanted some payback too.
Round 2: Assaulting Gibraltar
Everything in this round seemed to click just right.
My squad assaulted Harbor, got it neutral, but most of us were dead. Other squads pushed in, and solidified the cap. This would set the tone for the rest of the game: we would move in as shock troops, break up the EU's notion of "we're here, they're there", kill some people, and the rest of the team moved in like a pack of wild dogs.
Harbor flag was ours, but EU surrounded it from basically all sides. My squad cut immediately west of flag, took to the catwalks, and found our way to Central. We neutralized Central, capped Ruins, then moved in for a brief fight on EU Base.
The rest of our team cleaned up Toll Station and Ruins, so at this point, EU held Central Camp.
My squad took to the catwalks, and we went straight in on the south side. It's probably a good thing that I was cloaked and ghosted inside of Central. I do understand that action makes it seem like time slows down and relatively short events seem to take centuries but I do not lie when I say, we were on that flag for a good 60 seconds without it *BUDGING* a milimeter. I felt awful getting my SMs to spawn in on me on the second floor of Central because it was basically suicidal.
Nonetheless, we made it neutral, and then Reader moved in. It was a brilliant firefight. Going into it felt like I was 7 years old again, staring at a huge wasp nest.
Actually capturing it felt like I was a kid again, and I had bitten off a huge amount of food, and I could barely move it inside of my mouth, much less swallow it. And I couldn't spit it out because I was too far gone, but I couldn't swallow it because it was so huge. It felt like an eternity on the second floor of Central.
Eventually we took the flag. This was genuinely the defining moment of the entire round. The fact that we took the best defended flag, the hardest to take, against their whole team, that to me felt like it broke EU's spirit.
Some of them had broken through to Harbor and made the last stand there. We once again took to the Catwalks.
I thought for a second ... with about 160 tickets left in the game, wouldn't it be nice to get into another nice firefight? I mean, it was certain we'd win, why not enjoy it for a bit, eh?
No sir. After eating grenades on Office Ruins, I would compromise for nothing short of a capout. Our squad was on fire, and we wanted blood.
I was cloaked, and I broke straight from Toll to the East roofs of Harbor. I had my squad spawn in, rocket the flag, and move in. We got it neutral, but we got wiped. It was science, I believe, who still alive. He dropped his support it and picked up the medic kit to get me up. Immediately, I got 4 more SMs around me, we wiped the flag, and solidified the capout.
A brilliant round all around. Revenge on all fronts.
