    TG vs TG Scrim

All please post your thoughts for this scrim. And ideas for the next scrim. I will set up another scrim likely in January.

Props to xDemnitax for stepping up to be Commander for the EU.
The flow on the first Belgrade map was impressive. The way the flags changed hands would make a great training video for COs and SLs. Lesson I learned was that I need to be more patient. I knew we needed to cap a flag, but I did not wait until I had my squad together. I moved to far forward and died, costing tickets and time.

What did you learn from the Scrim??

    Re: TG vs TG Scrim

Plans are great, but you can usually throw them out the window after the first 2 minutes.

Just wanted to say great job and thank you to everyone on the PAC team. It was an impressive victory with a 263 ticket lead after three rounds.

    Great job everyone.

EU, I have to say second round of Belgrade was a lot closer that it looked. I'm sure with another hundred tickets or so, that round would have been yours by a lot. You put up a hell of a fight.

For what it is worth, this is the basic plan that was outlined before the match. A lot of things changed last minute, I even had to get rid of one squad after the first round because we were so short handed, still this is the basics that we started with.
    Belgrade:
    The first two minutes.

The goal of the first two minutes is simple: Get bleed.
If we cannot get bleed, then we must get neutral bleed.
If as a team we are put in bleed, then we much get neutral bleed.

    Basic deployment: relay race

Reaper and one other SM of his choice as medic run for nearest flag (mono as EU, Pond as PAC), once their sprint is out, rest of their squad spawns in and heads for nearest flag.

Once nearest flag is capped Silver spawns and burns sprint to next nearest flag (Playground as EU, Ruins as PAC). Reaper and his squad move towards Com Tower.

Once Silvers sprint is gone, his squad Spawns in and burns sprint to second nearest flag (Playground as EU, Ruins as PAC)

Once the second closest flag is captured all hell breaks loose. Reaper and DrBeat will take their squads and head strait for the Com Tower flag. They will be backed up by Silvers Squad in the second wave that will flank from the west side of the flag. Oniell121 will spawn off second nearest flag and head with Zhohar's Squad to statue. (note CO audible: if enemy is putting minimal forces towards Statue, Zhohars will be diverted strait to Com Tower)

Once Statue is secure, Oniell121 and squad will hold the flag with Zhohar moving to assist on front line.

Once initial deployment is met, Oniell121 will hold western portion of the front lines concentration on holding or taking Statue flag. Reaper and DrBeat will form the front lines in the center of the map and will be responsible for holding or taking the next flag in line. ie: Pond > Ruins > Com Tower > Playgound > Monorail as PAC, or vice versa as EU. Silver and squad will serve as protection for eastern portion of the front, and serve as reinforcements for back line or front line as needed. If possible, Silver and squad will try to breach enemy lines and attack their back flags. Zhohar will cover the western portion of the center of the map, and will serve as first responders to back flags. They will also push when needed to help capture or hold Stature flag.

If after initial deployment, we are able to take Statue but loose Com, Onielle will hold Statue. Silver will hold Eastern most pass between Com and Pond, Zhohar will hold western flank between Statue and Ruin, (road area) and Reaper and DrBeat will hold the Center and push as able for Com tower flag. If bleed is neutral, killing the enemy and tacking tickets will be paramount to taking bleed.

If after initial deployment we are able to capture Com but loose statue, Oniell121 and Zhohar will watch the western front and work to push on or contain statue, Silver will hold eastern most portion of the map, and Reaper and Dr will hold the center portions of the map.

If after initial deployment we are unable to capture Statue or Ruins and face bleed, all forces will be tasked with taking Com Tower flag. Oneill121 will cover western side and protect ruins as PAC while Zhohar, Reaper, and DrBeat push for the flag. Silver will cover the eastern flank and try to sneak back if possible.

    Highway Tampa.

Mobility is key to this map. There is a lot of ground to cover, and not a lot of ways to get a full squad across it.

    First Rush:

Reaper and DrBeat will spawn and take a buggy toward Refinery Flag. One person from Reapers squad will spawn in the f3 position of the buggy to repair so that they can take the fastest rout toward the flag.

Silver will spawn and take the remaining buggy toward warehouses.

Zhohar and squad will spawn and take the three tanks at our UCB, and move them into position to put cover fire on warehouse flag.

Oniell and squad will hold spawn and wait for us to capture our first flag.

Odds are good that they will beat us to refinery, so be ready to take out or capture armor as soon as you get there. I will try to take out the walker at Refinery as soon as it spawns with an OS if needed.

We should be able to beat them to warehouses, but expect them to try to take the flag with at least two squads. as soon as the armor on that flag spawn, have people ready to get in it. The walker will be used to defend the flag, and should be under control of Silvers squad. The tank will be given to Zhohar's squad after the flag has been fully secured. This means, who ever is closest to it when it spawns, take it! Then give it to a member of the armor squad, when it is safe. Under no circumstances should the enemy be allowed near it.

With luck we will be able to take both flags. If this is the case, Reaper and everyone in his squad that he can will load up and head strait for the cap out.

Zhohar will move the armor forward and put suppressive fire on their base with the goal of keeping them their.

Oniell will spawn and have his squad continue to hold and take the warehouse buggy towards their base. they will work with Reaper to cap them out.

Silver and DrBeat will hold position at their respective flags.

If we are only able to take one flag, Oniell will spawn with his entire squad to provide defensive back up. Reaper and one other squad (Silvers if we hold Refinery, or DrBeats if we hold warehouses) will work to take the flag with Zhohar and the Armor squad providing artillery and anti armor support. Buggies at the UCB should be used for this. Buggies and walkers that spawn at any flag we hold should be used to defend that flag. The walker up close, and the buggy for buggy doom.

In the event that we are unable to take either flag, Oniell and squad will spawn at our unlocked base and set up defenses while all other remaining forces will focus on taking warehouses.

Some of the changes include having Ms Beat and squad spawn in right away instead of holding. Zho also was more focused on being where he needed to be instead of in back. Silver instead covered the rear with Oniell121 the first round.

The second round Oniell121 squad was broken up and added to the other squads. This changed the dynamic quite a bit, my compliments to everyone for making the adjustments needed.

Otherwise, the part of the plan that you cannot see is that instead of balancing the squads completely, I intentionally stacked two squads, Reapers and DrBeats with the idea that they would be doing most of the fighting, so they should have the best shooters. I wanted them set up so that if it was an even 6 vs 6, they would walkaway alive 90% of the time. This gave us a bit of a tactical advantage in a "fair fight" and allowed us to control the flow of the game a lot better. Overall, I have to say it worked rather well. Between Reaper and Beat, there was never a single objective I gave them that was not met. while yes there were times when they would lose a flag, or even get wiped out completely, they were always ready to rally, and were able to move where they needed to be, when they were needed.

Silver and Zho also did amazing jobs of backing them up, and creating the openings needed for Reaper and Beat to exploit. I was very pleased with the performance of all of my squads and their squad leaders. Amazing work all around.

    Re: TG vs TG Scrim

Round 1 -- Belgrade: PAC (Team 2) won by 74 tickets in about 17 minutes

Round 2 -- Belgrade: EU (Team 2) won by 58 tickets in about 20 minutes

Round 3 -- Tampa: PAC (Team 2) won by 131 tickets in about 32 minutes

    ---

    Funnest moments:
    - Belgrade round 1 -- capturing Playground, as Reap and Beat fought over Comm Tower. EU just let us have it.
    - Belgrade round 2 -- Silver/Reaper were pushing hard on the east side of Comm ... my squad walks in from SW after losing Playground and captures the flag. Friendlies push in and we consolidate. Their CO must have seen us, as he sent an OS after my squad on flag, but it was too late
    - Tampa -- during a buggy-doom on my tank, bailing out multiple times, only to Pillum my tank as soon as the enemy jumped in ... and then getting a ride from Kelvin back to UCB, alive

Fun rounds, thanks to Reader for organizing this!
    Fight!

    Re: TG vs TG Scrim

I was mildly and pleasantly surprised by how fluid the Belgrade game was, despite no buggies.

I appreciate your effort in organizing it, Reader, as I know it can involve a good amount of time to do the most basic things. But I think the next step really requires more involvement from you. A few suggestions:

    1. Don't cut off signups just because you have a few replacements. I think you realized this, though.
    2. Get Tactical Conflict pages set up. While I was reasonably impressed with the organization that Y and the gang managed to do on my team, I think a little planning could have been useful and increased the "buy in" from community members.
    3. Send out reminders and the like by PM. When I've done these in the past, I've pretty heavily used/abused the PM system to make sure everyone knew what was going on. We had a good turnout, but I think it could have been better with this.
    4. If you can, make sure that you've checked all the settings, etc. before the day of the match. I understand you're not an admin -- and admins are under the impression that doing these types of things through an already existing admin should suffice -- but I think it'll make your job less stressful on the day of the match if you can manage to make sure it's a-okay.

Overall though, thanks for running it. I had a good time.

thanks a lot for organizing this! it was really nice to play.

i didn't play for a longer time and it was really cool to play mearly instant at a scrim. so i've seen what i missed. really nice teamwork and tactical coordination and a lot of fun.

btw: my best moment on this night was at the end of the second round. i finally got zhohar AND the guys who comes out of every corner of the map to revive him.

    Re: TG vs TG Scrim

Thank you Reader for this scrim... believe it or not this is the first internal scrim I have ever participated in.

My most memorable experience was during the first round...

We run through the west building between Com and Playground, completely unopposed and capping Playground right under the noses of half the EU team. By the time they realize what has happened, we're already on Monorail, capping it. EU squads spawn at a recaptured Playground and in the UCB to try and flank us. We repel both attacks with an intense bout of awesome reviving and timely arrival of Silver's squad. The EU team decides enough is enough, and they move in with the most terrific amount of explosives I have seen in my life followed by an orbital strike. Silver's squad wipes, Zho goes down, but I, then OZ get him back to his feet as he runs like hell... we respawn on him and push straight up through the attacking front of the EU team (with the rest of them hot on our heels!) and hostile controlled Playground to Com Tower, where we crush the EU defenders of Com Tower between us and the bulk of the PAC forces, then immediately turning and renewing the assault on Playground.

It was the most amazing infantry manuever I have ever seen in 2142. Ever.

    Re: TG vs TG Scrim

First to say: I had fun! TG scrims are fun and have lots of teamwork. I enjoy having the server full o people to listen to SL orders and a nice little chain of command. gg

I will post the following not to wine but because someone has to. I will speak something loud that many have thought for themself:

    The teams were stacked

I know this sounds like the usual "teams ur stacked" thing arrising in the main forum once every month. But this time it was teh rooster of a scrim we had weeks to work out. We were not fighting for the win - we were fighting for how low we would lose. Looking at the rooster and knowing almost everyone - there was this hugh blob of SL skill on the PAC side that was a safe card to destroy the EU team. Reaper, Beat, Silver, Frozen..? All VERY durable Squadleads that can stay alive for years in between the enemy force. Yes we had a good bleed at the end of the second round - but it felt more like the PAC team has stopped caring for flags and instead wanted to enjoy the killspree.

I think we should make more of an effort for a perfect balance next time while having a TG internal scrim.

    Re: TG vs TG Scrim

I usually make most weekend scrims and will be more active in the setup process for the next one.

    Zorasters point...

I think we can make a profile for the next scrim which can be just tweaked and saved and then just applied on game day and we'll be good to go. I'll look after setting up and double checking that before next scrimday.

    Lyra's point.....

    "The teams were stacked"

The results of the 3 rounds seem to agree, maybe we could be a little more critical of rosters before the next scrim....I'll try to be involved in the setup of the next one with the organiser and we'll try to even out the SL, CO and SM talent a little more.

Other than that.....GREAT PLAY ALL! Another TG event and lots more fun had by all. Props to Reader for setting up!

    Re: TG vs TG Scrim

To be honest I think that other than the last round on Tampa, both of the Belgrade rounds were ridiculously close. It was bleed that killed the EU side, not us, per se... I remember having to fight for dear life every step of the way from one objective to another and getting wiped out as a squad completely 3-4 times. The EU team put up an incredible fight, and at one point I was thinking we might even lose the second round as PAC lost flag after flag.

Whenever we tried to hop on a flag that was deemed "empty" by the commander, 1 and a half squads would somehow pop up and murder us within seconds no matter WHERE WE WERE. I guess that's a quality of people like Zho and Reap, they can instantly teleport anywhere that's needed.

The Tampa round wasn't that serious, the serious definite was just us rushing you guys after you fortified Refinery, we knew it was suicide, but the game was decided before.
