December 12, Titan Server
Hey everyone,
Thanks to FatKidDeath for getting us all to play Titan mode tonight. It was my first time playing Titan for an extended period where my fps was greater than 10. I attribute that to a new, faster HDD, a fresh install of Windows and a great tweaking guide that I found. The combination of those things made such a difference in my performance that I'm running BF2142 at HIGHER detail and resolution than before while still increasing my frame rates. Anyways, the AAR... When I first joined up, the game was in the middle of Shuia Taiba. I formed a LearnTG squad out of habit and set up a defence around one of the silos. Initially it was only Zigthis and I and we got consistently hammered by enemy vehicles, both land and air. I'm not sure how we managed to hold on, but we did ok. Then the squad filled up with Ramrod, Bommando and some newcomers and we mounted one heck of a defence on that silo, despite increased enemy vehicle activity and enemy drop pods. As I recall, Minsk was the next map up - I remained SL but have absolutely no recollection of what happened on this map, aside from fighting over the silo at the chokepoint bunkers forever. I found out that Titan is very different than Conquest...well, I always knew the two modes were different, just not by how much. I need to maintain more awareness over the battlefield dynamics, like the conditions of the Titan shields, the control and timings of the missile silos and presence of friendly / enemy soldiers on both titans. There tends to be no 'front line', like you see in Conquest games so there's more to worry about. Thanks to Bommando for providing this awareness for me while I was SL. I learned a lot. Later in the night on Suez Canal, CARRamrod took the lead of LearnTG since I had to scale back on my mic usage (my wife got sleeped, so I didn't want to break it and draw aggro). Bommando went up to become CO. In close Titan games where there is entrenched defence, taking silos becomes the alternative strategy to win. We saw this happen a few times - once in our favour when I was SL, and once in the enemy's favour on Suez Canal. I'll have to keep this in mind in the future - it's something I never needed to worry about in Conquest mode and it means team strategy can drastically change without warning. Great games last night everyone - I still prefer Conquest mode at the moment but I'm warming up to Titan now. |

The first time I played Titan since I've been able to field upgrade to the engineer anti-air gun. That thing is great on Titan, since air is just so previlant. The only problem is that crappy bug that won't let you lock on to some targets.
I saw a bit of ramming that I wasn't thrilled with, though.

Re: December 12, Titan Server
Titan was awesome last night. Had a good time defending our titan with MDawg77 and Soggy bacon (and others I can't remember) one round. It was preaty neck and neck, but we ended up losing due to silo fire.
Also got my gold explosives badge while defending (good old APM and RDX whoring) |

Thanks for all that came out. I too had some great rounds. I think I played four or five games before I had to leave.
I think having two nights a week that are dedicated to Titan will get everyone focused.

Last Night's Titan Games
Perhaps I am just parinoid, but something did not seem right with the Titan games last night. It seemed like the silos were pretty balance most of the time, but one Titan's shields were going down twice as fast. Did anyone else notice this? Maybe it seemed like this because I was one of the only TGer's on the other side most of the night! Anyway, still had a blast as usual!

I have seen people try to shoot the core down with guns before. Very slow, very ineffective.

Re: Last Night's Titan Games
If one side is better about stopping an ememy squad and recapping a neutral silo they will greatly increase the number of missle impacts on the enemy titan. For example, EU and PAC each hold 3 siles that fire every x minutes. Pac assualts an EU silo turning it neutral, but EU clears the silo and re-caps.. the Missle fires immediately hitting the Pac titan. Perhaps that same PAC squad respawns and turns the silo neutral 120 seconds later only to get killed and the EU re-caps. The missle will again fire off. EU has now sent 2 missles off while on the PAC side they missle silos are still just counting down.

Great games. That first round was especially fun. I spawned into a huge firefight on Shuhia and everything just seemed to click there. It was pretty cool. Good job as SL Thanatos. You do have to be especially aware of the dynamic in Titan and it takes some getting used to. You did very well.

Re: December 12, Titan Server
MDawg - I think I was on your side for about 5 rounds or so - we tried to keep it balanced but as Shiner pointed out they kept on capping our silos and then we'd get them back shortly afterward. There was way too much back and forth on the silos we were fighting for, while the ones the other side held, they held consistently.

Re: December 12, Titan Server
I had a blast playing Titan mode last night. Titan mode really raises the stakes as far as teamwork goes.
In one memorable round my very capable squad members were assigned Titan defense and Bommando laid out a very good strategy of having all the other squads work solely on silo defense since we had such a big lead. Well, while my squad was defending the Titan, the other squads proceeded to: a) defend our Titan and b) attack the heavily defended enemy Titan. This resulted in my squad sitting idle because of lack of attackers and we lost all of our silos. Overall great games but that one round was supremely frustrating. |
