That was fun to watch from the other side. Is it wrong to smile everytime I saw "You were killed by |TG| Nepharyte" ?

I'm kind of surprised at how effective the manuevers around the Playground/Com Tower area were. I remember running around a little bit but it felt like we were mostly skirmishing.

Also much props to the guys at the Ruins/Pond area. In the rear guard position enemy vehicles were a non-issue except for the walker and occasional buggie. Your video is the only thing I've seen of their action since they aren't talking about what went on at all

Re: Team Bravo defeats Team Alpha

I will admit i was fairly frustrated during that round. an honest self assessment of my squad leading was that I did a fair job of it - but not great. One thing about my squad leading style is I try to keep a very level head. I did that, but I could have been a more effective leader, I allowed my squad a certain degree of autonomy in this match, and in retrospect, I should have exerted more control. we got spread out too often and did not move as a unit sometimes.

for example, I end up leading several assaults, I should have assigned a point man, a 2nd behind point, and someone to bring up rear. I should have then pointed out our movement style verbally and our way points on the minimap. "move cautiously with lead two elements using using alternate bounds (aka leapfrogging) to this objective on the map, SL and support will successvie bound to the lead element. Lead element will pin, rear will flank." or "move doubletime traveling overwatch to this point on the map, we will then cut back and flank at this point with rockets and nades."

instead, I simply said, "follow me, were heading to ruins" or "lets move to ruins guys", and took off running. the excitement got the better of me. When I loose my cool, I just get dumb, not angry.

Bounding overwatch, calling out before a revive, establishing a point man and explaining orders clearly are things we practice in the 3rd fairly often. with a smaller squad (4 guys total), I figured we would just naturally stick together and do these things organically. we did not, and were less effective because of it.

regardless of what seems like a negative assessment, we did fairly well with respect to our objectives considering our squad size. I see much room for improvement however. overall, the match was much fun for me, I had a really good time, it was a pleasure to fraps it knowing the other team would benefit from this unique perspective of their match.

Re: Team Bravo defeats Team Alpha

Since we didn't have FRAPS, I'll just put up Bravo's initial deployment strategies. Yes, the post is monolithic because I'm lazy.

EDIT: ARF THOUGHT OF ALL OF THIS, NOT ME

    PAC
    CO: Experiment626

    Squad 1: STATUE NORTH

    1. Arf [SL]
    2. Zoopy (Walker)
    3. Tybalt (Walker)
    4. HgMaDHaTTeR
    5. Spectrums

    Squad 2: STATUE SOUTH

    1. Bommando [SL]
    2. Fehmart
    3. Jonan
    4. Snail788
    5. MDFubar

    Squad 3: INFANTRY PUSH (POND/RUINS/COM)

    1. Silver [SL]
    2. Lorian
    3. Concr3te
    4. Rock
    5. Simpson2142
    6. Panzerhans

    Squad 4: ANTI-VEHICLE (MONORAIL)

    1. Reader1234 [SL]
    2. Shiner
    3. Slicklizard
    4. RedHerring

    Squad 5: ARMOUR WHORES

    1. Lyramion [SL]
    2. Dev0l
    3. MAXx

On PAC side, the focus is on Statue, as the walker spawns towards the PAC and can more easily be captured.

I'll flesh this out more tomorrow. Some squads will have the same objectives as on EU side, with an infantry squad moving along the conventional routes south of PAC Base (though their SL can deploy from the APC and capture Ruin faster while CO can also just walk or pod out from the APC and cap Pond alone; same idea can be used on EU side, come to think of it), and a monorail squad to mine the road and destroy opposing vehicles.

Since Statue is the focus, a starting buggy rush along the west road will place one squad leader on the north and south buildings. These squads, along with the monorail squad, will attack Statue; if EU will capture and/or overrun the point, north building squad or whoever is nearest can just have someone ready to steal it upon spawn, while the three squads turn the point into a killzone. Otherwise, capture the point as normal. The key element is securing the walker.

An important consideration for both sides' battle plans is controlling roads that can be used to quickly place SLs behind friendly lines. Mines should be placed on the main road and on the west Statue roads to limit SL buggy rushes. We might even go as far as having each squad with an engineer and motion mines to limit enemy vehicle movement.

    EU
    CO: Reader1234

    Squad 1: COM TOWER

    1. Bommando [SL]
    2. Fehmart
    3. Jonan
    4. Snail788
    5. MDFubar

    Squad 2: RUIN

    1. Silver [SL]
    2. Lorian
    3. Concr3te
    4. Rock
    5. Simpson2142
    6. Panzerhans

    Squad 3: INFANTRY PUSH

    1. Arf [SL]
    2. Zoopy
    3. Tybalt
    4. HgMaDHaTTeR
    5. Spectrums

    Squad 4: ANTI-VEHICLE

    1. Experiment626 [SL]
    2. Shiner
    3. Slicklizard
    4. RedHerring

    Squad 5: ARMOUR WHORES

    1. Lyramion [SL]
    2. Dev0l
    3. MAXx

Ideas behind the plan (from Arf):
"On the EU side you can rush the Statue but chances are that if you do manage to capture the flag that, because the walker spawns with the capture, that you'll probably loose it to the PAC. Then your squad gets killed by the Walker and the PAC take the flag anyway."

"The CO will save the first Artillery Strike and EMP for the walker at Statue. Since we wont be going to this flag we'll kill it as soon as it spawns before anybody even gets into it. The first Supply drop will go to the buggie driver when he reaches the enemy UCB so he can kill all the assets.

In summary the plan is to deploy as fast as possible with squads that have overlapping missions so the important missions (destroying the enemy vehicles/Com Tower) have contigency plans and plenty of back up. The rest is smart squad level playing, using another squad to flank instead of splitting it in 2, staying away from the corners North of Com Tower and using the hills/trees, effectively combating enemy vehicles, and holding a strong frontline by having well defended choke points/mines on the road etc."

    Squads:
    4 infantry
    1 armor

    Squad 1:
Objective: Capture and hold Com Tower.

SL deploys out of buggy as it passes by Com Tower, squad bomb the flag.

    Squad 2:
Objective: Capture or harass Ruin; slow the advance of enemy armor; attack assets; ???

SL should be recon with RDX, and driver of buggy; as he nears Ruin, have squad members spawn in and hop out to capture Ruin. Squad members should be mainly engineers, and should spread motion mines liberally to slow or destroy enemy armor. SL continues to PAC base, destroying whatever assets he can find. As squad members are killed at Ruin, have them spawn at the UCB and assist in destruction of assets. If the squad wipes, for now it seems that the squad's next objective will be decided by the CO.

    Squad 3:
Objective: Rear guard and rapid deployment reserves.

Squad should travel along conventional routes, capturing Monorail and Playground. This squad should be ready to deploy quickly to help defend flags or attack Statue from the south. In other words, this squad must be ready to move quickly and together at a moment's notice and deal with any type of situation. It may be worth advising that everyone go with light armor for increased mobility.

    Squad 4:
Objective: Vehicle destruction; deny use of main road to enemy vehicles; reserves.

SL should pod onto monorail from APC. Squad should spread out along the monorail to minimize damage from assault rockets, etc. Drop mines on the road and destroy any enemy vehicles. Must have some anti-infantry component in case the squad must assist another squad.

    Squad 5:
    Objective: Drive the armor.

Armor should get down the road ASAP and assist any infantry during the initial push at Ruins. As keeping the armor running is paramount, the SL will have a lot more independence as far as deciding where to place the APC, tank, and possibly walker if it comes under EU control. One consideration: If you're deployed on the main road, consider placing the armor under the monorail to provide some protection against OS. At the very least, it should protect you from enough shells that a squad engineer can sacrifice himself to stand outside and repair while the shells come down.

If you've read this far, you may have noticed a lack of specifics on assaulting Statue. The timing for attacking it is up to the CO and the SLs, but ideally, any assault on Statue should be undertaken with one squad each in the northern and southern buildings at Statue, and possibly a monorail squad as well. If possible, the APC should make its way to the western roads at Statue and mortar infantry from its slightly elevated position there.

Finally, the CO should equip himself with a SAAW, and chill out in a position at a back flag, such that he can possibly take down enemy UAVs as they appear.

All I can say is that whoever was assigned to that Tank needs to spend some time in solitary to get a grip on their mistake
Yeah, unfortunately our initial plan was to secure the walker and then have someone backtrack to get the walker. Because of a last minute dropout who was the man assigned to the tank and then RustyBaldur filling in that spot who couldn't connect, we had a lot of confusion over that point, and the tank went undriven for longer than we intended (which was for about one minute).

great plan fehmart! It really did play to the weakness of ours.

As far as the tank, sorry I sounded so bishy about it. :/ I forgot I was recording fraps like 2 mins into each round and was just playing. I just remember how damn effective that tank was against us the previous round, and to see it sitting there drove me batty.

Arf wrote it, not me. I just mushed it together. And I would be pissed about an empty tank, too.
