AAR: 22 May 2007, Liberation of Leipzig

    Date: 22 May 2207
    Server: Northern Strike
    Map: Liberation of Leipzig
    Squad Members: BunintheOven, Lorax74, Pfeil2281, SSN11, STD1045 and ZWood15.

Last night, I had the privilege of leading a fantastic squad for a particularly exciting round on the Liberation of Leipzig map. This unit included a few members of the 9th Mobile Infantry and several players without an affiliation with Tactical Gamer. We played this round as the European Union and had the daunting task of attacking, capturing and securing the West Bridge Control Point.

My first thought was to have the squad load up in the Goliath, but another soldier climbed in and headed off toward our objective. So, we hit the ground running and began our task of clearing out any rail guns or mines in the beast’s path. The Pan Asian Coalition wasn’t going to give this flag up easily, however, and we began to encounter heavy resistance. Our squad worked together to weed out any enemy engineers or recon soldiers trying to take down the Goliath’s panels.

As the Goliath crept forward to our objective, we spread out and began to close in on the flag. Everyone in the squad did an excellent job working together to spot enemy targets and react to their attempts to flank both us and the vehicle. Once the dust settled from what may have been one of the most exciting battles I have seen in Battlefield 2142, the EU flag flew high above West Bridge.

The action did not stop there, however, as the Goliath pushed on toward another Control Point and left our squad to defend the area. Within seconds, the PAC made an attempt to flank behind us. Just as we began moving to intercept them, another enemy squad began to push toward us from East Bridge. Without much direction on my part, our squad split into two groups and met the attackers head-on. The next few minutes were filled with one of the best displays of teamwork I have witnessed from an ad hock squad.

Everyone in our squad worked together to spot the enemy’s avenue of approach, point out weaknesses in our defense, push back the attackers and keep each other alive. Each pause in the action, however, brought another wave of enemy troops. I eventually took a brief look at the map, only to discover our team had secured all of the other Control Points but the one closest to our position. The prospects of holding onto the flag looked bleak.

The enemy’s efforts grew in intensity and there were several instances where they were able to neutralize the Control Point. Our squad rallied together and worked hard to make sure the EU flag remained the only one atop the pole for as long as possible. In the end, however, we were swarmed and forced to withdraw to the Insertion Point.

Instead of moving on to another objective, we decided to head back to West Bridge and retake the flag. With the help of the Goliath, we started another push, but the round quickly came to an end. In all the excitement, we had barely noticed the scoreboard and were surprised to learn we earned a rather large victory.

Another great night on the Northern Strike server!

That certainly was an intense round of endless fighting. At one point I think we were being assaulted from more directions than we had members in our squad. I have to say, that is one of the first times that I have really enjoyed playing this map.
