Unlock progression?
Greetings!
I am new to BF2142. And I can feel it. I get pummeled all the time, but I guess that is to be expected - more than 10 points in a round is a success for me. Consequently, I gain unlocks fairly slow.. I am quite aware that there is no 'perfect way' of selecting unlocks, but I figure you guys might help me if I give you some pointers. And I dont want to waste the 3-4 first 'easy' unlocks on something that is of little use. Sorted according to personal priorities: 1 - In the future, I want to become a TG Squad Leader. 2 - I like to help others. 3 - I like defending. 4 - I am not comfortable as a front-line assaulter, I prefer hanging back just a little.. (i.e. 20 yards behind..) 5 - I am not very good at killing stuff (yet). I think support might be a good choice, but I would still like your advice on unlock progression. Also, maybe engineer is better? but how will that work as SL? What classes are needed more on a regular basis? I am willing to go whatever way will benefit TG the most, but still be in line with my personal priorities.. regards, Banjar |

Re: Unlock progression?
Hey, Banjar, welcome to TG! Since you like to help people and like to hang back, I suggest you unlock some of the medic upgrades I.e. AED-6, advanced med hub, etc. and definately get the hand rockets. Use these in conjunction with an assault rifle for some easy kills. Bommando has a thread some where on how to shoot rockets, so you might want to find and read that. But IMO, you need to unlock the assault (and medic) class, it's the best way to go. Some people disagree with me on this strongly, though

Re: Unlock progression?
Get the defibrillator right off, so you can be useful for reviving. Sometimes, no matter what, you want all medics. From what it sounds like you like doing, support seems like a pretty natural class. You get to give people ammo, supply them with intel in the form of the IDS and that clicker thingy, and accuracy isn't really that required. Also, hanging back is a perfectly acceptable action with the support.
Also, start picking up kits. You'll get gear and get to experiment with what you like doing. Just learn the symbols on the backs for what is what (you'll mostly find assault, though) and see what works for you.

Re: Unlock progression?
Your points will come mighty quick if you unlock the advanced medic hub and the defib. Focus on keeping your guys on their feet, and don't make any suicidal rushes to save the guy who died in the corridor of crossfire. Those medic badges add up quickly.
Meanwhile, pay attention to your squad leader and figure out what he's doing right and wrong.

Re: Unlock progression?
as the others siad, get the defib, you can get a lot points be just keeping guys alive. That would also build a really good name for yourself around here, we love guys who can revive.

Re: Unlock progression?
I like girls actually, am i in the wrong club?
![]() I agree with the rest. DEFIB and ROCKETS is no 1. Support is next with ids and emp. To SL you don't even need the beacon to start off. But most important thing is learning how to stay alive and when to attack/defend. And most of it's learned by experience, ie playing against and with others. Btw, you should also read the TG Primer, the BF2412 Server Rules, and the BF2142 SOP's. These tells you all about TG. Good luck man!

Re: Unlock progression?
lol, I'm gna have a field day on this post
.Firstly, welcome to TG, mainly this community is about playing together as a team, co-operating, thinking of your team above your own well-being (in terms of the game, not life ), not exploiting glitching and gameplay weaknesses, and most importantly, having fun. If you want to get more Information on the community start reading the Battlefield 2142 - Official Rules, Announcements & SOPs forum, and reading the tactical primer, one of the supporting members from an IHS will point you in the right direction (frankly I'm far too lazy to post the link and to find out how to do URL code , plus I know when you get more SMs replying to this thread they'll post them anyway, or have them in their sigs.Quote:
And also stressing the point of picking up kits, I didn't discover the Voss until i picked it up by accident, then I ound out what it was and spent all my time unlocking it, sometimes you just click with a gun, and you might just find that gun by picking up kits. Also, because you are a Supporting member, you can go on TG a lot, and here you will be able to get field upgrades by joining good squads. Test out stuff with that as well. I was lucky, because when I first got the game, battlefield decided to have all unlocks unlocked that weekend, I had no idea at the time, and every time I ranked up I was like "where are the unlocks?" I was narrow minded, just playing with support, because my friend said it was a good n00b kit, don't make the same mistake, play with different kits, (and if you like the equipment of recons, but don't like the recon rifles, and prefer the assault rifles, then unlock the Lambert, this is what happened to me). One thing I want to say about SLing and not being able to make many kills. I was very bad at this game when I first got it. I was so confused about what was going on, like titan mode etc. and I had read about 20 faqs before I got the game. It took me about a week to even get a slight hint of what was going on. People expect you to be able to start handling situations properly when you're about 15 ranks up (Master Sergeant/Sergeant Major), so don't sweat it, you're still learning the game, and I know I've definitely been there. On Sling, I've very rarely properly SLed any squad before, but I ALWAYS join a squad. If you keep doing this, you'll son know what makea a good and bad SL. Afternoon (European time) when there are not many people on, I come on and SL, and I do a pretty good job, ut this is just so I can get a better feel for it, before I take up SLing full-time .Another problem you might have is your location, play on some 24 player servers with low latency, and see if you have less lag problems. 1 kill is an achievement for me on a full TG server (and that's not an exaggeration). Another problem could be your graphics card, if its not that great, try turning the graphics down to low, the game will look terrible, but it reduces lag (that's what I do). Lastly, I've been looking at your stats, and they're not bad at all for a beginner. You have 80% accuracy with the Zeller, with doesn't tell me you're bad at aiming at all. It's very frustrating for a beginner when you get knifed, and even though it hasn't happened much to you, I suggest you read the How to avoid getting knifed thread. And also, for the time being, stop getting the general unlocks (sprint etc.) and if you're not sure what to unlock, just don't unlock straight away, ask on a thread (or ask someone who you think is good) what you should get, list your options and recommendations.

Re: Unlock progression?
Anytime your playing a game like this where you select powerups you ALWAYS WANT TO FOCUS, at least initially. Pick a class and get all the unlocks you want/need for that class FIRST, then worry about getting unlocks for other classes. DO NOT go around and get the level 1 unlocks for all the classes first, it'll be a waste of unlocks.
For example when I first started playing my first unlocks were Defib, Herzog, Assault Helm, Rockets, Baur, adv Med kit (I tried the voss and didn't like it so I didn't bother with smoke nades/voss). All ASSAULT unlocks first. The logic behind the reasoning is especially true for BF2142, because you can only play one class at a time. An engineer unlock is worthless, if your playing as a medic. So pick a class (most people choose assault first, and that's what I'd recommend) unlock everything you want from that kit FIRST then move on to your next kit and unlock everything you want from that, etc. etc. The only exception to this is the Player unlocks and squad leader unlocks. Feel free to get those as you feel you need them, but overall I'd say they're weaker than a lot of the class unlocks, so I'd avoid getting those unless you feel you need them. |

Re: Unlock progression?
Except for picking up the beacon, which I did reasonably early so my squad leader could replace his by taking one off my still smoking corpse.

Re: Unlock progression?
Banjar,
Tactical Gamer University is running a class of Basic Infantry for the BattleField series. This class teaches the basics and keeps your butt alive. I highly recommand signing up and attending the class. There will also be a squad leader class after and this will be our first SL class for 2142. Sign ups here. You don't have to be a supporting member but you might be bumped to the reserve list. But after attending/running 4 classes, The reserves get in if they show up. People tend to forget or have importent matters that come up. BTW, get the assault tree first. Assault can do anything. Attack, defend, revive, heal, lead, or anything else you need really. The buar can sniper, That voss can CQB, The mids can do a bit of everything. The only thing you can't do is carry explosives. If you got vehicles to worry about, Use a railgun. ![]()

Re: Unlock progression?
Thank you all!
- I honestly expected no less than a good amount of serious replies now that I am home from tonights gig, so thank you for providing that! I am surprised you are all yelling 'assault class!' but what do I know, right? ;-) As luck has it, I seem to have unlocked correctly, i.e. 3 character unlocks, the defibs, and I will from now on progress in the assault tree. Background wise, I have read all of the 'read this first!'-threads, including primers and all basic tactical documents. @Eroak: yes, I am aware of TGU, and I wanted to join this course, but the date was only rcently set? I have signed up now :-) regarding SL'ing, I just mentioned it in case there was one really dominant SL class. I have no ambition of running a squad as long as I dont even know the maps or have the basic unlocks. But I also feel that (during european hours, anyway) that not too many players are willing to e squadleaders. you see one squad with a TG tag being formed and it attracts players like a mother-in-law attracts fat. But people are unfortunately NOT very willing to be SL's.. I will change that down the road, though ;-) Regards, Banjar. |

Re: Unlock progression?
One thing that I found helpful when working on unlocks...
Instead of going all the way up say...the medic ladder and grabbing that voss, unlock the item just below the voss. That way when you play in one of the great TG squads you can use your squad unlocks (and believe me you will get them quickly with TG squads) to unlock the voss. That allows you to "test drive" that new weapon and in the meantime use that unlock point to work on something else. Once you play more and get a feel for what works for you, then you can go ahead and unlock it so that you have that item when you first get on the server. |

Re: Unlock progression?
All good advice here, as everyone said, Assault is the most flexible. Defib is the most powerful unlock in the game, and it's only the 1st level for medic. Get that.
![]() Here's a guide for using the rockets: http://www.tacticalgamer.com/battlef...k-rockets.html As AgustusGloop said, you should get points the fastest being a medic with the heals and revives. Stick with your squad leader, and you'll get bonus points for following his orders. If he doesn't give orders to attack or defend positions, don't be too shy to ask! And since it hasn't been said yet, use your headset. The TG squads and members will utilize the voice over IP, and it helps. Sticking with and communicating with the squad helps keep you alive! |
