I'm going to eat my own face off if one more person...

... hops into the gunner seat on my gunship and starts spraying tanks, walkers, and whatever the hell else with bullets. People were bitching at me that I was taking off without a gunner but I've pretty much come to the conclusion that my survivability drops when I sneak up behind a tank and the mentally challenged retard in the seat in front of me helpfully saturates the tank with some harmless bullets.

ON THAT NOTE: Is it just me or are TV missiles completely impossible to steer? They shake and spin and veer completely away from whatever you WANT them to hit.

While I do agree that it is annoying when you get an ignorant gunner;

1) Are you in a squad when you fly the gunship? And if so, has your SL given you the OK to take a Gunship?

2) If you have a designated Gunship squad then you need to find someone who will be your designated gunner or you are not using teamwork.

The Gunship is basically worthless without a gunner. Find a good gunner, be someones gunner, or find a way to help your team. You could try putting a post on the forums about wanting good gunners and then you could buddy them. There are several people I have on my list who can fly for me. If one of them isn't online, I don't get in the Gunship.

I'm sorry. If you're hopping into the gunship and flying off without a gunner then you aren't playing the TG way. The gunship really is much more effective with a gunner than without. However, if you aren't comfortable with your current gunner because they just got you killed wasting bullets then just refused to take off and order them to get out.

DO play around with different gunners though. It does show off some of that TG pride when you pilot, or gun, with a PUBie and show them how its supposed to be done. It may be frustrating getting paired up with someone you don't know, but the benefits in the long run are well worth it.

Re: I'm going to eat my own face off if one more person...

As far as the TV guided missle goes I am far from good with it but have been practicing a lot lately. I have a G7 mouse and I need to turn down the sensitivity on it in order to gain some kind of control. Even after turning down the sensitivity it is still a little unmanagable. What I try to do is when I get lined up with a shot I shoot the missle, I try not to touch the mouse at all till I am maybe 10-20M from the target then I steer it into the target. Once you start trying to steer the missle then it seems the more you try to aim it the worse it gets and you miss the target completely.
Also, I want to thank the people who have piloted the gunships and when I let them know I am not great with gunning they still allow me to stay in their gunship squad.
I also would agree that the gunship is useless without a gunner. The TV missle can take out a tank reletively easy if hit in the rear and if not with one shot then the pilot can hit it once and it is history. Walkers are a little bit harder to take down, usually it takes the TV missle and a few shots from the pilot or at least it seems that way.
Also being a gunner I try to always keep a look out for the enemy gunship and when they get out of site I use different views to let the pilot know where they be located. If and when I get a chance, once the pilot rifles off his shots at the enemy gunship and they make contact I start with the gatlin gun in hopes of helping his shots.
With a good pilot I love being a gunner in the gunship. I just need a lot more practice to get really good with the TV guided missles.

TG tags means you play the TG way. If you're not tagged and not on the server then I don't really think it matters if you want to screw around with the gunship.

As for the TV missile. Load up a northern strike game and play with the gunner seat of the assault speeder. It has a TV missile that you can fire from the ground and a relatively steady position. Once you have that mastered you'll have the basics of lining up a shot and manuvering it down which will help you with the more mobile and unsteady gunship missile. Unsteady because the gunship is flying around of course. They operate exactly the same without all that flying business. ^_^

Uranium: Keep an open mind about people, but mentally cross them off your list if they prove to not know what they're doing. If I'm flying (doesn't happen often, because I'm don't and probably never will have a fighter pilot mentality) I try and invite my gunner into my squad. VOIP communication makes the gunship 100% more effective.

The Hachi's missiles actually behave a bit differently than the gunships. They have a big issue with verticle changes in direction and in general are a lot slower, therefore, easier to control. Still a good way to get some of the basic ideas of how they work down though.

How much is that because of a change in perspective from a stable ground locked position as opposed to an elevated moving position? I think the verticle deviation is similar except you need to use it more from the ground when you don't have a clear LoS like you would from the air.

Heh, not much, its just really hard to get that thing to go up. So many times I've wanted to hit a passing a transport with a hachi missile, but no luck. They also travel a bit slower, and are a bit weaker (walker down to 50% instead of burn).

Bind your movement (secondary) to the arrows keys, I think it increased my skill with the TV Missle by 300%! It way more steadier, smoother, and effin easy that way.

I've one shot walkers with the speeder missile though. Good thing too since those things are EVERYWHERE on NS maps. Aim for the groin and they make a satisfying boom on impact. Legs will take it down 90 and headshots will do the least damage.

I've never noticed a problem with the TV missiles because of inertia from the gunship's movement, I'm pretty sure they're unaffected. The missile just careens and spins around like a missile in a bad anime.

Try seeing if it's possible to hit the vents on the bottom with a missile! Always satisfying to take down a walker with airburst assault rifle rockets...
